Amateur astronomers are puzzling over a seemingly anomalous cloud that has shown up on images of Mars taken over the past few days. Is it really a cloud, or a trick of the eye? Does it really extend 150 miles up from the surface, as some of the observers suggest? And what churned up all that stuff, anyway?

My theoery, created right bnow without any further investigation, is that it's a phenomenon much like Yellowstone's Old Faithful, times a million.

If it isn't a smudge or similar defect, I'd bet on it being an impact rather than anything volcanic.

Well, considering all the secrets surrounding Mars it could be one of many things. Impact, scientific experiment gone awry, Martian plate movement.

I read about this a while ago and even listened to a great podcast, but couldn't find it again. Government coverup?

Since it is a violation of the Outer Space Treaty http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Space_Treaty to detonate something like a nuclear weapon on a celestial body(outside Earth) I doubt it would be the end results of that. Although what's to say the Natives of Mars haven't developed atomic capabilities.

Anyone skeptical is urged to do some research into theories of the moon being a spaceship and ancient nuclear weapons. In Man's limited written history comfort is taken in denial. Declaring something is impossible only limits the possibilities.
