Here's the 1st look at Optimus Prime from the cover of EMPIRE magazine:

ComingSoon wrote:Last week, we got new footage from the Detroit set and Hong Kong set of Transformers: Age of Extinction, and now we get a first look at the newly-designed Optimus Prime, thanks to the January issue of Empire magazine, which also published another set photo. Check them out below!

Coming to theaters on June 27, 2014, the Michael Bay film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing, T.J. Miller, Han Geng and Titus Welliver. Although the plot of the sequel is still top secret, Dinobots are said to be heavily involved and Bay himself teased to ComingSoon.net that it will involve a "Chase from Hell."

has to be the worst looking bayformer ever, seriously how do you look at that and think "transformer"? And the only thing that says optimus prime is the head. When they said redesign i was hoping for more transformer looking bots with transformations that actually make sense but instead they're going more towards generic robot that will probably just morph randomly into a vehicle. Well i had no hope for this movie and i still dont.

Sabrblade, I think that's a bit unfair. I agree with him on this. Look at movie Bumblebee's cgi model, and then to, what I think anyone would agree is the best movie bumblebee figure we got, deluxe Battle Blades Bumblebee and it shows Bayformers CAN have logical working transformations that result in a robot that looks like it transforms into a car and still be complex and not the boxes of G1.

Prime here might as well be a robot from Pacific Rim. Cool in and of themselves, but nothing that says it's a Transformer. I'm from '84, and I KNOW transformers can be transformers without being 'G1' Think of it as the difference between Beast Wars designs and those of Beast machines (animation model wise) Beast Wars still mechanically transformed, on the other hand beast machines shape-shifted, or morphed. Big difference. Prime 'looks' like the latter.

I like the design, but honestly it tires me that people expect a robot that turns into a truck to not have truck parts. The first trilogy Prime design did it. Why can't this one? :HEADHURTS:

So, its kibble that's being asked for? Really? Aren't the best kind of robot modes the ones that hide the altmode kibble as best as possible?

And, come on, the Pacific Rim robot designs were a lot more simplistic than this.

Pacific rim look in the sense that it doesn't look like it transforms, if you ask me. I can't see a single piece of truck on him, and it doesn't have to be kibble, come on. Let's not start misinterpreting to avoid what is really being said. It's pretty generic indeed, with the body detailing being so randomly placed. Pretty eh overall.

Unless they serve some kind of functional purpose, altmode parts in robot mode are kibble. Kibble is any piece on a TF's body that serves no purpose than to just be there.

Like, G1 Prowl's door wings, for instance, were kibble.

It doesn't even look like they designed Prime to transform, they put a lot of effort into that in the earlier movies. Maybe he'll have more discernible vehicle parts on his legs.

I'll be honest, I find it strange this has turned into such a wierd debate. Since when have TFs NOT had alt mode parts visible?
But different strokes for different folks. I don't want to de-rail a movie related thread with more opinion based arguments. I do agree with you, as I did your original post. Other than that there are elements of this Prime I like, but the over all direction is something I'm not fond of, for the reasons you and myself already gave. I thought I explained what I meant, obviously not since Prowl's door kibble have suddenly been denounced after 30 years in an attempt to prove me and yourself wrong. :-?

Hopefully everyone can be content that this kibble loving 'GEEWUNNER' is still up for watching this movie, regardless of pre-conceived fandom notions.

And, unfortunately, he's one of the best looking in TF4. No joke, you better get used to a full-on, mechanized, Tron Samurai. Oh, and your villain is basically Agent Smith from the Matrix (minus the sunglasses) just made into a robot. There's a lot of robot clothes (including coats, helmets, and glasses) and a lot more "faces" (ala Starscream, but they don't look good).

Unless there's another picture I'm not seeing somewhere (not counting the toys) I feel like we're talking alot about kibble and such when we can't see all that much from this picture. Let's wait until we at least see more angles/movement in a trailer or something...

I suggest you learn to read English.
I'm no purist, so grow up and pull your head in. You love that tired opinion so much you still need to jack it all over these forums I can't stop you, but don't expect me to care about or stroke the boner posting such gives you

For what it's worth we have seen this Prime design in full. All we are seeing here is the final polished render (and yes, Sabrblade, I know animation, so please no know-it-all comments about final renders and whatever else you feel I need to know. Your above comments do nothing but belittle the breadth of knowledge you have for this franchise in an attempt to yet again be on top of any hint of a debate) I sincerely doubt his final movie model has grown a wealth of truck parts from the waist down, therefore mindvipes opinion is valid and I happen to agree with him. If reading my comments honestly makes you believe I hate on these movies, I fear for your ability to read, much less process information.
But whatever, feel free to post whatever makes you the hardest.

I felt like discussing something I actually enjoy. My apologies. I'll be sure not to make the same mistake again.

Don't care much for it at the mo. Reminds me of their proto form versions from those toys where you could attach bits and pieces to an exo skeleton.
My personal prime collection so far in descending order of how great i reckon the toy is -
FE Prime, Silas Breakdown (Powerizer), Dreadwing (Powerizer), FE Bulkhead, Voyager StarScream (Powerizer), Ratchet, Soundwave, Arcee, Voyager Megatron (Powerizer), Wheeljack, Thundertron (Powerizer), Ultra Magnus (Powerizer), Knockout, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee,Airachnid

Haha,

But many Primes/ Convoys don't have the truck windows as his chest. Alternity and Alternators/Binaltech for starters. Yet you can still see the alt mode within the robot mode. Same for Armada Prime.
Battle Convoy, The G2 'hero' Prime (best way to describe him, dunno if it's accurate) and Fire Convoy have chests that look like windows, but they're not 'cheats' like say, FE Prime. It's just to give it that Prime look, which I personally don't feel is needed. If it's not there in the transformation then no truck window chest.
I'm not crying over the lack of truck windows specifically...just why can't we see certain parts of the alt mode? Is that such a crime to want? Sorry if it is. I think from those full body early renders he maybe has wheels near his feet? But It's just...look I know what I mean. Sorry if it's not coming across...I thought my above comment about 'Bee was enough to explain what I meant about how this Prime looks to me but I obviously didn't do a very good job.
Sorry folks.
