40K assembly question

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

40K assembly question

I cracked open my first box of Chaos Space Marines open, and I have a question concerning assembly.

I can't figure out how to get some of the guns into their hands. do I have to cut the handles and triggers off to get them (say the flamer or plasma gun) into their hands?

Show me some pics!

Also, do you have the army codex?

Some guns are made so you have to modify them if you aren't using what GW deems as stock.

Also, moving to non-tf toy discussion.

I'll post some pics later, but I have the 07 chaos space marine codex PDF on my lappy and its quite unhelpful in assembly. =/

some of the guns are already holding guns. others are just sort of 'open' without any real 'grip' on the gun. other hands are holding just handles.

here's the sprue if that helps.

it could be how its supposed to be, but to me it looks off, like how there;s a hole for the trigger finger but the trigger just gets in the way of it fitting into the hand.

I'm a total newb at this, any veteran players know the solution?

Why do you think I asked? I've built a ton of these over the years. I got a 700 point Chaos Space Marine army and a 2500 point Necron army

The gun is for slinging onto his back or for modifying into the hands. If you want a good fit then you will have to cut the trigger.

Also, don't glue the gun on just yet. You will want to paint the figure and then glue the gun on.

I can walk you through the process if you want.

I did one figure, but it was hardly complicated as this. thanks, I needed this help. A buddy of mine told me melta guns and lightning claws were the way to go.

Just a havoc, had to leave the gun off like you said. something I learned the hard way... going with the Sons of Malice cause... I'm odd that way.

As a note, also was thinking about Traitor Guardsmen. I guess I just repaint IG troops?

I do have some advice for you on painting. I noticed white is going to be your dominant color based on those pics.

Handpainting white always lead to nast streaks. Especially over a black basecoat.

My suggestion here is to go with a white basecoat and then pick out everything else in chaos black. From there you can add other details. The look will come out much smoother and more consistent.

Also, don't buy the GW spray cans. They are expensive and unneccessary. Go to Wal Mart and pick up a couple cans of Krylon Fusion Black and White spray cans. The paint is strong and bonds to the plastic much better. You also get a better painting surface.

I don't know much about the Traitor Guardsmen, but the GW figures are made so you can paint them pretty much however you want. If they play by a certain allegiance's rules then they just have to stick with the weapons used by that army.

Do you have the Space Marine Codex? You need to get it because that book will tell you everything you need to know in order to get your army to play by the rules.

They're in the Eye of terror codex, or, at least 'traitors' are. From what I read you can't put marks on them or give them chaos space marine weapons. Thing is these are from 03, so are no doubt old news.

thank you for the advice, and yes, the Sons are Malice got that. I'll drop by walmart and get the paint you suggested.

I can get it, both at my hobby shop (wonderfully well stocked) or DL a copy. one quick question, what is the newest codex edition?

I also have the 07 chaos space marine codex in PDF, as well as 5th ed rules. i hate PDFs, I'll get teh real books later

Wait, are you building Space Marines? or a sub group of Chaos Marines?

Eye of Terror says Chaos Marines to me.

Make sure you get a new codex. To make the pices legal, you might have to paint them in the theme of an army you want, but have to make them play under the rules of another? Does that make sense?

I've been out of the Warhammer game for a while so I don't know what the newest Codex is for them. You are going to have to do some digging on that.

I mostly like to just build and paint.

When you grab the Krylon Fusion paint, try to get either Semi-gloss or satin. The high gloss may make things hard to paint.

Chaos space marines. In the Eye of Terror codex you have to look in the Lost and The Damned section. I didn't know the particulars of them. I just know you can't put marks on them or give them power weapons.

in eithercase, they're just a maybe. they'd just be sort of vanilla cannon fodder.

I'm not sure if the Eye of Terror codex is relevant anymore.

In 5th Edition (the newest), the forces of Chaos are divided into Chaos Daemons (warp monsters and other nasties) and Codex Space Marines (The original traitor legions).

Traitor Guard can be played with converted standard Imperial Guard models, using the Imperial Guard codex.

Since we're on the subject of 40k, here's my latest project: Pre-Heresy Iron Hands!

I wanted to do something a little different so, I modded a Dreadknight into an Imperial Robot, based off of Incarnidine from The First Heretic novel!

Those are sweet Jesterhead.

I really do love Warhammer, but my issue with them is cost. You don't get anough for what you pay for.

I find myself buying them on clearance quite a bit though.

Noise marines will likely be my first major additions, since no one in my area fields them (I'm sure I can mod some blastmasters after a few tries). But, I'm also VERY glad I can field traitor guardsmen. I think they'd be good distractions or just considered low priority targets to the enemy player. (and very cheap)

Also Jesterhead: hot damn. awesome work man. :D

And no love for the paint jobs I posted of stuff I did... :-(

Anyways, Gun modifying is not that hard. For the case you have as I explained earlier, all you have to do is cut that small area where the finger would go for the trigger. Cut that piece out and the gun will slide right in.

Look into just buying up parts lots if you get the chance. Bit of excess pieces that no one wants can be a GOLD MINE.

You know it!

My pre-heresy Iron Hands are %80 Forge World models. They are lovely sculpts, but the price is obscene!

It seems like Warhammer 40k (or 30k lately) novels have been sucking up a lot of my money lately. The next Horus Heresy limited edition novella Aurelian should drop sometime soon. Not sure where the money for that is coming from! :-?

Oh dear, thinking about getting back into 40k makes me cringe. To think I could've had less trouble collecting AEC if I didn't go through this hobby. Was more in to Fantasy than 40k, but still had a considerable amount of Tau.

I don't know if the heads are different for you on that Krylon paint Robo, but for me it SUUUUUCKS.

picked up some krylon fusion satin white paint, it came with this sucky 'EZ touch 360 dial' (no normal headed stuff) and it offers no range, and it comes out in globs rather than a spray. Whatever it didn't cover completely it PLASTERED ruining much of the detail.

EDIT: Turns out its not the paint... I managed to get the one can of paint without a nozzle. just my luck. =/

Pretty unlucky. Were your models ok?

I always use GW paints for my warhammer minis, but I've had nothing but good luck with Krylon for other uses in the past.

my Iconbearer is pretty plastered. the paint had formed huge lumps on the shoulder pads, and his chest is missing a lot of detail. The backpack's missing all of its minute details like the bolts and ventilation... vents. Really, the only thing I can thankfully salvage without any effort is the Icon of Chaos Glory and the arm that holds it. the legs are okay, as are the bolter I gave it.

We can save them!

Go to the automotive section in Wal Mart or go to a auto store and buy some Purple Power. It's a cleaner/degreaser.

Let them soak for a day and your parts will be as good as new. ;)

For every problem, there is a solution.

Let it soak. It will be easier.

Also, get a toothbrush you can spare for cleaning parts. It will help you get the residue from the paint cleaned out.

The toothbrush I figured, gotta clean it out before I start again. that paint gets tacky and sticky real quick once it comes out of the goo
