A Tale of a Bunny's Future Trans-Atlantic Move

Well, everybody who knows me may have seen this coming a mile away. For those that haven't, if all goes well, this bunny is going to be emigrating from the Netherlands to the United States.

My wife of almost 6 years (hey, why am I hearing a lot of hearts breaking?) is American you see, and after the wedding we decided to try life in the Netherlands. It did not work as well as we had wanted, for a couple of reasons, employment and housing being the main factors. Between you guys and me, I don't really trust those agencies here who supposedly have our best interests at heart anymore, I got screwed over more than once, especially with her first resident's permit. :-$
The biggest reason for going however is that my wife's really homesick, and I don't blame her. Her family is really close, I feel more welcome with her family than I ever will with my own. We also feel we have more freedom and opportunities there. We have big plans for the future, but they can only come to fruition in the US, that's how we feel. We simply feel stuck here!
Truth be told, I think we should have moved over from the very beginning. We're still glad we tried though, but it wasn't meant to be I guess. I take some of the blame, for not getting my fluffy butt in gear at times, but... like I said before, I'm not comfy around officials anymore. :(

The forms requesting my approval into the US have been submitted, hopefully we will get a reply soon. Wish us luck!

Best of luck, to both of you.

You are headed to the land of moaners, who still manage to get more TFs than most of Europe.
May your hunt always reward you with plastic. :D

Don't forget that your homeland's orange jerseys mixes well with your new town's blue baseball cap (whose top prospect will playing for the Netherlands in the WBC).

Good luck in your new land :APPLAUSE: ,

Just a small status update :)

The USCIS has received the paperwork and my case has been accepted for review. Just a tiny step closer.

Mindmaster is applying some regional dialect to the word 'America', which when stated loudly and frequently enough, is an expression of deepest patriotism.

You'll need to say this word with appropriate dialect on a regular basis, upon arrival in America, lest we suspect you of being un-American.

That said, I don't wish you luck, because your heart is already en route. Thus the battle is already won. I'll save the wishing you luck for after your successful arrival.

Here's another update. :)

They're done reviewing and my case has been put on hold until I submit some more paperwork. The letter with the specifics has been sent off today, so I'm wondering what they want.

Did you by any chance once in your life look at a coffee shop in Amsterdam and wondered out loud if you should smoke something?

Because they won't let you in, you know. With your liberal, no! communist ways, you dirty scoundrel you.

I knew running that red light on my first day of middle school would come back to haunt me.

You actually ignored a red light?! They're never going to let you in now!

(I hope all is sorted, and it was just bureaucracy being its usual self.)

A communist AND a criminal?! In TEXAS?!

Well... I'd recommend you hide your heathen godless workers rights spiel and just talk about football.

Just attend the nearest high school football team's game this fall. Just to socialize with the locals. Besides, you can tell any of your buddies that you understand movies like Friday Night Lights and Varsity Blues. Heck, you could fib and say that you saw Odessa Permian in the flesh. They'll be so jealous.

Afraid not. You see, attending the weekly football game is just as important as church on Sunday mornin'. It's a communal event.

And in Austin especially, you'll learn to be right neighborly, or you'll be found out for the dirty heathen communist you are.

Glad I'm going to Dallas then

In other news, the letter came in, and they want proof:

- that my wife is a U.S. citizen
- that the marriage is legal
- that the marriage is bona fide i.e. not a sham wedding

Easy enough to do. ;)

JelZe Goldrabbit,

This might be far down the road for you, but you may find this useful someday.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0104/Could-you-pass-a-US-citizenship-test/Who-signs-bills

It is a sample US citizenship test from the Christian Science Monitor. The link starts at question one. This is the first test I can remember with all of the above not being the last answer. If you are curious, I got 95 out of 96 answers right (I swore that Adams worked on the Federalist Papers!)
