I mean this with no offense to a person who has just passed away, but I would rather spend my limited time on this world celebrating people who had talent, and didn't squander it all on stupid BS. As much as we can say how much talent the girl had, we can also say she was simply a junkie.

The article I read totally messed up her age stating she was 72. The pics they had of her made her look horrible too so I thought she really was 72. Well, I never heard of her until she passed away and a friend posted a comment on facebook about it.

Give me a break, Autobot. If I wanted to be disrepectful about this horrible situation, I would say she should have said "yes yes yes". My statements were far from unfounded. They were also far from disrespectful.

Actually, I would argue that it was a supremely unfounded and disgusting statement. A talented and troubled young woman has lost her life and you're making judgements based around ridiculous media reports that tell you only a fraction of the real story. Addiction is an illness and it is attitudes like yours that stigmatise an issue to the point where people are afraid to get help.

I agree. And I am not saying that a human life lost is not tragic. I also know what addiction is and does to someone's life first hand. Many of my friends have also had very long roads to recovery in the past-some still dealing with their issues. Drug/Alcohol addiction is an absolutely insideous disease that creeps up and takes hold before a person realizes. I also know that what a person does once it takes hold is a choice. I stand by my statement. However, I will amend it by saying that I feel upset that anyone should have to struggle their whole way through an all too short life. It is a choice that she made though whether people want to say that or not. So I will continue to focus on my own well-being and the well-being of the people I know who have similar problems.

True, but you could say the same for others. Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin.... they were all junkies but they were all legends. Im not saying that Amy Winehouse was anywhere near their status, cuz she wasnt, but all great people are troubled to an extent. Thats what makes them great.
Personally I wasnt necessarily a fan but I do think its sad she died so young.

It wasn't a shock to me

what gets me is all these celebs and news agencies acting like this was m.j. all over again i mean seriously they said she was talented but how many extended a hand to work with her? she had one hit thats all m.j.'s last album sold nearly 10 million copies and people said he was done.what did that make her then?
