Another RID question.....

hello.

I'm starting my collecting of Prime figures now (love the show!) and I asked earlier about the clarification between FE and RID models. Question is, are TAKARA models a completely seperate 3rd model? (or are Takaras the same as FE?)

I'm sorry, this gets a little confusing to someone just starting out... :-(

Takara uses the same molds as Hasbro for Prime (both FE and RID), they just added extra ports.

Unicron and Breakdown are unique to Takara, as is the "jet" Vehicon retool.

Indeed, plus almost all Takara releases get a unique Mini-Con (Micron) that you construct from sprues. The Microns transform into a figure's signature weapon, which is nifty, but in some cases dual wielded weapons are replaced by a single Micron.

And the Takaras have way less paint apps and come with stickers instead. Those might peel off here and there at the corners but some stickered Takara figures are better detailed than Hasbro's versions.

I love asking people questions on this board, I get such knowledgeable replies. :)

Ok, I guess the other difference is the $$$ too, right? They always seem to be a bit pricier; tack on overseas shipping as well.

Takara items costs more from the point of retail. A deluxe Arms Microns goes for ~ $22 USD at Japanese Retail. That's the price I'm paying for hasbro items at retail here in Asia too...

Japan had its own run of First Edition figures, with minimal differences. The only FE molds omitted were Terrorcon Cliffjumper and Deluxe Optimus Prime. :)

The Arms Micron line uses the RiD molds plus a build-your-Minicon, but three FE molds managed to slip in:

- Terrorcon Cliffjumper, in translucent purple
- Starscream, repainted as Skywarp and Thundercracker
- Deluxe Optimus Prime, released as Orion Pax
