Any INHUMANOIDS fans out there ?

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Ah Inhumanoids, the only evil characters that remained evil in the Shattered Glass universe.

Spin Master, are you able to answer the question about Sabre Jet?

His full name was listed as Brad J. Armbruster, the same as the G.I.Joe character Ace. Were they suppose to be one and the same, or was it just someone reusing a name Hasbro/Sunbow already had used in production?

I can't believe I found this thread! I've been looking for Inhumanoids stuff forever! I'm a huge fan, and I've always wanted to see pics of the series 2 prototypes and concept drawings. This is fantastic! Transformers are my primary passion, but Inhumanoids runs a close second. Spin Master, are there any other pics you might have? Ssslither is one I would love to see more of.

Some toy lines, like TV shows, just don't get a chance to find their following. I think this one could have been really big if they just had a little more faith. I had most of these toys and, even as a kid, knowing that there were more coming went a long way in motivating me to convince parents to help me find and buy the whole line. or close to it. Pretty much the same for the other kids in our neighborhood. I would have bought those concept figures in their finalized forms in a heartbeat!

Ah well. Such is life.

Great work though. Thanks for sharing the visuals.

Another factor working against the Evil That Lies Within was when the line ,and cartoon made their debut. The industry was going through a bit of a transition. The shows' ratings were in decline in 86'-87' season with the original audiences getting older. Also, even show runner Flint Dille, and others who worked on the show expresses some miss givings about the quality of the toys. And also according to Dille, when the head honchos at Hasbro, when they finally got to watch the show. They were a tad bit shocked at what they wrought. :-s And I've read a post that apparently they were worried that angry parents were going to give them what for over scaring the little tykes. Although, most kids I knew at the time were renting every gore fest horror flick at the Video Rental store, and me, who was basically what you'd call a weenie when it came to horror. Loved the show. =P~ I'd love to see the property revived by Hasbro and IDW down the line. With the Autobots and Decepticons back on Earth in the TRANSFORMERS mag, I keep holding out for a return appearance of Metlar and his posse. It seems like a great back door pilot for the Inhumanoids to make a return.

I can see why the Hasbro brass would have been a bit apprehensive. The Gagoyle ripped off D'Compose's arm. That's kind of shocking to me today, and I'm 39! Still, I loved it as a kid, and my son thinks it's the best of my "old" shows. Given that they were apparently going to introduce the "Devil" on the show, I can see parents groups coming unglued. But man, what a premise!

There is one part of me that hopes that in the push for movie licences, that Inhumanoids has a chance at getting a solid re-boot as either a Pacific Rim style Earthcorp vs Inhumanoids action fest, or given to one of the better horror directors to go smaller and narrower in focus but really dark.

Then I think of the Bay Transformer movies, the missed opportunities with GIJoe, and the absolute crapfest that appears to be the Jem trailer, and realize that we would probably just end up with a crappy mash-up of "The Core" with "Saul of the Mole Men".

I would agree with you there. I would love a movie, and in a lot of ways, Pacific Rim kind of filled that want. But I'm afraid you're right, a movie would probably end up being something I wouldn't want to watch. It's funny, with all of the Lovecraftian elements in Inhumanoids, Guillermo Del Torro would actually be perfect for the property. But Hasbro seems to not want to put that kind of director in charge of their properties. A movie would probably be unrecognizable. Too bad. Now a comic on the other hand...

It was definitely different from the others. I loved it for that reason. Around '86/'87 I was 6 and 7 years old. Prime marketing target hahah. And I was definitely watching my fill of Friday the 13th and Freddy Krueger back then. Granted, I had to sneak over to friends' houses to do it at first, but it wasn't too long after that before I could watch them at home too. So the monsters in this toy line were even more awesome because they were unique, like those movie slashers were back then. Vampires and werewolves and all that? I'd seen those. But Metlar and D'compose and Tendril were sweet to look at and storm over my Battle Beasts with

At least some of you may have had the chance to get these as toys.

For the life of me, I can not thing of a single time I recall these being at Canadian retail. If they were (in the west at least), it must have been small quantities that moved fast.

The only time I can remember seeing any of these at retail was during visits to Washington (Bellingham specifically). There used to be a store there called Toy Warehouse I was able to convince family to let me go to a couple times where I saw D'compose and Tendril (both placed on a very high shelf I couldn't reach) for the only time, and I remember seeing a few of the smaller figures but I think was at Fred Meyers.

Thinking back to that era in kids' entertainment I could actually see the Devil making through. While not overly what some would call Satanic, most Saturday morning fare had appearances by the guy in the red union suit quite regularly. And I'm not talking about Santa Claus. Heck, the Looney Tunes had the Devil show up in an ep or two. Duke frequently said "What the Devil !." as an expression of surprise on G.I. JOE:A Real American Hero !. The Joe ep "Skeletons In The Closet" Lady Jaye being sacrificed to some Lovcraftian creature by Destro. The Real Ghostbusters were literally trapped in Hell as contestants on the Devil's own gameshow. And Satan's various other names were even rattled off by Ray as an answer to one of the questions. It wasn't until the early Nineties when family values started becoming a buzzword ,and political correctness became the rule instead of the exception. When The Real Ghostbusters aired on the Family Channel, the episode I mentioned was dropped from the rotation along with others because some felt it was encouraging devil worship. Although, I think we could get away with the Devil character today, instead of calling him the Devil or Satan. We'd name him something like Baal, Demonicus, or some other synonym for Big Evil Demon Ruling Hell. Flint Dille and company never struck me as lacking an imagination.

That's a really good point. I hadn't really thought about how many time "the Devil" had popped up in other shows. I had totally forgotten the Ghostbusters episode. That really brought back some memories! It would be fascinating to see what Dille and those guys would have done with it. The characters in the concept art that got posted look like they would have continued on with the overall weird tone of the show. And since it would have driven many parents crazy, it would probably have been a hit with kids.

Have to say I was a bit disappointed with what the trailer for JEM & THE HOLOGRAMS as well. Especially with G.I.JOE:Retaliation's John Chu directing. I thought he had done a good job fixing things in the wake of The Rise of Cobra, and had a lot of confidence he was the right man for the job. I hate being proved wrong. :BANG_HEAD:
Anywho, on the subject of a live-action INHUMANOIDS a bloke who goes by the handle, blodrunsclear, cut a fan trailer of what would a live action take might look like.

Probably Guillermo Del Toro would be the best man for the job. Also, I couldn't help after seeing Inhumanoids on DVD a few times that when Lord of the Rings was making its rounds, and recently with the overly nitpicked The Hobbit trilogy. That Peter Jackson and his effects crew at Weta would be the guys to bring Metlar and his Posse to life on the big screen. I also noticed that bloodrunsclear used quite a few scenes from the Tom Cruise flick, Oblivion to boot. I wouldn't mind the director of that flick, Joe Kosinski, and TRON:Legacy taking a crack at it.

That trailer is really cool! Weta would be great. One of the cool things about Del Torro is his senss of design. The thing I've noticed about Inhumanoids is that while the monsters were scary looking, the good guys had kind of a weirdness about it them as well. Augers armor has a very organic look to it, like it has the texture of muscle. Del Torro would do such a good job on that. Everything he does is weird looking.

Nah.

It never had anything to do with the show being too violent or gory. Flint, when I talked to him in an interview, said the demise of Inhumanoids happened before the series even aired.

He and Tom Griffin speculated it was that the audience, the kids, couldn't get past the reality of the toys; that it was kind of a misbegotten idea. Like Transformers, they were going with duality - When you bought a Transformer, you got both a Robot Action Figure AND Toy Car. As Flint understood it, the idea with the three Inhumanoids, the big figures, was that you got an oversized action figure and a playset.

Plus - Inhumanoids was syndicated, so they could get away with a bit more than what was airing on the Big Three (networks), stating there was a big exodus with the comic book guys wanting write for the Sunbow shows. Steve Gerber, when he was pitching GI Joe help joked "Yeah, you can actually show a guy getting punched!"

At the end of the day, it wasn't gore or parent's rights or anything.

It was dismal toy sales. I can attest to this to because I wanted them in the worst way and my parents refused, telling my brother and I they were too big and hideous. Usually my folks were pretty chill with stuff; we had a plethora of He-Man figs, GI Joe, Transformers. But when they saw Metlar, D'Compose, hell even the Redwoods, they said "Nope."

Clearly I missed this thread! I've loved Inhumanoids since I was a kid, but I didn't even know there were action figures of them until maybe seven years ago! And just recently I purchased a Herman Armstrong figure from a local convention. $5, and the only thing missing is the grappling hook!

Located this online encyclopedia, Statemaster.com, which had a rather detailed entry on the Inhumanoids. Metlar and his posse. Earth Corps. The Mutors. >:oP Check it out here. http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/Inhumanoids

Also yesterday on the Wikipedia entry to the Inhumanoids, I found something rather interesting. The entry in the comics section of course mentioned the Marvel/Star Comics adaptation that ended up getting canned mid storyline. :BLACKEYE: But recently added, was the rumor of a revival of the Evil That Lies Within in 2009:shock: in comic book, graphic novel format. George Pratt(BATMAN:Legends of the Dark Knight) would be handling art details. And on the writing side of the project none other than Silent Bob himself, Kevin Smith, would be the scribe on the project. :KREMZEEK: :michaelbay: Smith came out the following year on his Facebook page that it wasn't happening, but really interesting, Smith said the following. Which he not only revealed he was familiar with the property, but a fan as well.
"It was a killer series back in the day,[it's] a shame it didn't last longer, had some really gruesome **** that I wouldn't mind tackling someday."

Hey IDW/Hasbro, are you seeing this ?

A recently dug up fan made trailer giving us an idea what a live action INHUMANOIDS may look like.

David McDonald, a.k.a. Spin Master in these parts. For taking the time to dig up, and post the artwork , and designs he did for the Evil Within we all know and love. Some interesting info how early on the line would've looked under its original, placeholder name, the Light Warriors.

Apologies for the necro, but this seemed the best place to put it.

Full storyboard sets for The Evil Eye and Primal Passions, found in Flint Dille's storage and sold off, are now up for viewing at the Sunbow Marvel Archive: https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.co ... unbow.html
