I built a fish pond for my wifes birthday about 4 weeks ago and already the pond has gone merky at the bottom.

We cant use a pump+filter as we dont have an outside socket anywere and the pond is at the very bottom of the garden. We have afew koi and afew goldfish in it etc.

Ive tried to use 'Clear Water' which is ment to make the water look more clear and ive also got loads of water plants in there + some ramhorns snails and standard normal water snails

How amd i ment to get rid of the fish poo tho? whats the best thing i can use to help me get rid of this fish muck and make the water look alittle clearer but without having to resort to a pump+filter which we cant really use

i know you can some fish tank gravel cleaners (basically a long tube with a chamber on the end) which works well for fish tanks to collect the poo from the water...but will this work on a small fish pond?

Im just really confused with this because when i was a child my mother had a pond and she never used any pumps+filters+chemicals or plants and the water was always clear and the fish always seemed ok

Any pond advice would be good

I'd suggest taking a water sample to your local pet store and getting the water tested before adding any chemicals. Most reputable store will test your water for free. Get them to check ammonia, nitrates/nitrites, and PH levels.

What did you use to treat the water before stocking the pond?

I'm more of an aquarium guy, but the basics should be the same. Though, we did have live pond with breeding fish in the house I grew up in.
