ARGH! My PC is on its last legs

Hey'all just venting some frustration, this good ol machine has served me well since ... well since GTA IV for PC was released (late 2008) .. so she has been running near consistently for 5 years (I'm one of those people that never turns off the pc) I'm a retired computer tech (yes I retired young) so its not an issue of not knowing what everything does and what I need, its more of a matter I don't have $2000 AUD sitting around .. eh as Ned Kelly once said "Such is life" at the rate its crashing I can barely do anything, thankfully I have my laptop and Wii & Wii U to keep me company in the mean time lol .. I'm 34 and still a gamer and will probably die either playing some future Nintendo console or in-front of my PC .. but anyways, so everyone tell me about your self's and stuff, any other tech heads hear? any gear heads? train lovers? or even lego? gamers? or just general fellow nerds :BOT:

Hope to hear back from some people ..

Adios
T

Five years is a bloody good run.

My home laptop that I'm on is just under three years, had to replace the hard drive a month and a half ago.

I've got a desktop machine sitting on the floor beside me collecting dust. A friend gave it to me because it stopped connecting to the internet for her (so she went out and got a whole new system). A quick reinstall of Windows and it's running fine. As it's a spare I figured I'd play around and installed Ubuntu on it as well.

Then I have a relic. It's not a laptop, no no, you don't want this sitting on your lap unless you like having your legs crushed. It's an old Acer "portable computer". It's an old work machine and a good ten years old. It would take half an hour to get up and running on the network at work, so when we moved more computers in I snapped this one up. Brought it home, nice format later and it boots up nicely! It just needs to be plugged into the mains all the time.

The computer I'm currently using at work is also over five years old, I swear and curse at it on a regular basis. As the IT Administrator I opted to take the poopy machine so if people came to be complaining about theirs, I let them use mine for half an hour. They stop complaining after that ...

I accepted a while back that my gaming days are done, I just lack the time to do it.

Burn, I always maintain and keep it running at peak efficiency, so thats why they last me (that and I have a habit of getting over powered machines)

I'm playing around with ubantu on old work laptop, mainly because I'm going to be setting up a complete camera array & gps tracker in the car with an Odriod (I'm sick of going back to my car in the car parks and finding a new scratch on the door without any proof of who done it) I've got an older Intel I3 in my perants side of the house that runs XP specificly so I can play the older stuff that doesent like winblows vista/7/8

Oh it's what I do at work. Not sure what their maintenance program was before I came along, but over the last five years I've been there I've gone through and cleaned them out and given them a good format.

And by cleaned them out ... let's just say the old workshop was dusty. Some of them were kept under tables. I'm sure you can imagine how bad they were.

When I was working I scored a contract with a highschool for 5 years and when I told them last year I was getting out of work they were devistated, ever since I started working there they didn't need somebody around as often because when I got the job done I got it done right :) at one state I was showing the kids the insides and what everything does, I'm going to miss it, but I sure as hell not going to miss the back pain lol
