Crew Quarters

Sunstreaker sat on a bench in the crew quarters carefully examining his arm. The CR chamber had reported that he was fully functional and back to full power, but he had learned in the past that it didn’t always scan for paint scratches. Apparently the computer considered damage like that to be ‘cosmetic’ and unimportant. That just showed how little the computer knew. He held his arms out in front of him, carefully going over them with his optics for any imperfection in the paint.

The Autobot warrior stood up and turned to ask his twin to help check his alternate mode for paint scratches when the orders came in from Ironhide. A scowl instantly formed on his face, especially since he was singled out. “I’d like to see him try and throw me out of this ship,” he said to no one in particular. He quickly stomped out of the room, motioning for Sideswipe to follow him.

“So what do you think torqued our commanding rustbucket’s bolts? Maybe they found out how to correct his speech center so he doesn’t have that ridiculous accent, or maybe they are sending a competent commander.” The yellow Autobot snickered, “Not that there really are many of those, or any for that matter. I’d be happy with one who actually let us do some fighting. I’m wasted on this infiltration slag.”

Mess hall

With a slightly less than stirling hiss, the not-often used doors to the mess hall opened up, revealing a close to pitch black room that hadn't been used for almost a vorn. Energon was at a premium, but once it was still common enough to be readily available for casual consumption. Which was why the mess hall was utilised. Most mechs would recharge on the fly these days, having been given a concentrated and rather tasteless ration or other substitute. Either way, it was either too bland or horrible or in not enough quantity to warrent stopping to 'eat', persay. So, the mess hall had been cut from the grid, until now.

Since the Ark-19 had nothing that resembled a meeting room, the mess hall would have to do. Hell, Ironhide supposed he might as well get some of the bots in their spare time to refit it into a briefing room. That, of course would have to wait. Stepping inside, the sensors that hadn't been activated for many a year slowly came to life, and with them, the lights slowly activated and gloomily lit the space. Old neon signs for now long defunct liquid consumerables companies, tatty carbon-paper posters and a few other reminants came into his vision: glimpses of a Cybertronian society free from war, else a warship that wasn't under the near-grippling energon rationing that it was now. When was the last time he'd been able to afford a glass of refined energon when he went off duty? When had he been able to get off duty for any length of time save to engage in a rest cycle? Bah, musings that had no place at a time like this.

He chose one of the far tables, the round one which had approximately enough seats for the entire crew of the 'teen. They could shift seats around if they needed to. He, however, decided to stand, unceremoniously pushing a seat out of the way as he took another look at the datapad.

Cybertronian technology was derived from probably the most advanced tech-base in the galaxy. Of course, that was from an overall and average point of view. Some races they had met, for example had better transportation technology, their ships five times as fast. A few of them used that advantage to escape what was fundamentally [i]their[i] war. A few were even stronger than them in some military applications. But, for the most part, they had the overall advantage, which meant that most races didn't stand much of a chance against the decepticons. However, it did have an advantage: it meant that the decepticons WERE the only threat to the Autobots.

Which was a problem when other races could potentially reverse-engineer them. The decepticons had detected something in an area the human's called Area 51, Cybertronian signals. That had several implications: either the humans had acquired evidence of their existence, or worse, had gone on and began to replicate their technology. The fact that the decepticons in the transmission Jazz had intercepted didn't know what it was indicated that the accord hadn't been broken, which was good. Though to be fair he wouldn't of minded the help of Ultra Magnus or another of the enforcers to come in and help them clean up shop.

Something didn't sit right. Inevitably, he knew the decepticons would be onto this mystery almost as fast as they were, which meant inevitably there would be conflict. That, and who knows what else was going on that the humans were doing. For all he knew they might be building a piece of technology capable of being a threat to them, and if the decepticons managed to seize it, well they'd be up a flow pipe without a rivet value.

Hot Rod moved out of the Med Bay with Ironhide and made his way down to the mess hall. The trip took only a few moments, but on the way the Cavalier spotted some of the other crew. To his left from an adjoining corridor Hot Rod noticed Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. The two warriors were on their way from crew quarters to the meeting area. Instead of acknowledging Sunstreaker vocally Hot Rod simply nodded in the direction of the Golden twin, in advertently letting him pass and coming shoulder to shoulder with Sideswipe.

“You have any clue what this is about, Roddy?” The crimson warrior inquired. “Not sure. Ironhide looked like he got spooked when he saw the intell from Jazz. So I suppose your guess is as good as mine.” Hot Rod shrugged.

As the two mechs rounded the final corner they each pushed opened the double hung doors and made their way to where Ironhide and the others were. Hot Rod took a seat closest to where the old warhorse was standing and Sideswipe made his way to the back of the room opposite his brother.

Smokescreen and Trailbreaker hurried into the mess hall where several other Autobots had already gathered. “So, where do you want to sit?” Smokey asked the black mech, who responded by simply pointing his finger. The diversion expert followed ‘Breaker’s lead, and the duo took a seat near the front of the main table. Looking at his commander, who stood quietly nearby, Smokey could sense the seriousness in Ironhide’s demeanor. Something big was going down, and it most likely involved the Decepticons. Smokey leaned in closer to Trailbreaker and whispered, “I have a bad feeling about this."

“You and me both, buddy,” 'Breaker replied before focusing his optics squarely on Ironhide. He and the old mech went way back. They had fought side by side in numerous battles on numerous worlds. The defensive strategist owed his life to Ironhide, who had saved his spark on many occasions, and was proud to consider him a friend as well as his commanding officer. “So, what’s going on, big ‘bot?” The black mech asked Ironhide, breaking the uneasy silence among the Autobots who were present. “The ‘cons up to something?”

Skids walked into the Mess Hall, looking around with a slightly wistful look at the disused feel of it. He had a hard time remembering the last time he'd even been in a mess hall... even before the energon shortage had come about he had been the sort of scientist who considered one's lab a perfectly good place to refuel. Not for the first time, he found himself wishing he'd found more time to look around his own planet and people (as opposed to every other planet) before it had all been laid to waste.

Noticing that several of the others had already arrived, he quickly moved to take a seat at the front of the room, curious to know what sort of information had been uncovered.

Mess Hall

Wheeljack arrived just as most of the others had. Although he was still mentally numb from what happened in the Med Bay with Jazz he was already coming out of it. He looked up when he stepped inside, and realized it had been a long time since the entire crew had actually been together in the one place. He made his way over to one of the empty chairs and took his place and waited for what Ironhide had to say.

A few minutes later Bumblebee also entered the mess hall. The yellow mini-bot was uncertain what was up, it sounded to him like there was more then the usually Decepticon activity. His processor was already working through various possibilities, but he just couldn't figure it out. He took up a place standing not far from Ironhide and waited for the Big Bot to make his announcement.

Hot Rod sat patiently as the mess hall began to slowly fill with his Autobot comrades. One by one they shuffled in as quickly as they could. Most had been in the command center performing various tasks that helped them find out more about this planet and it inhabitants. Others were either in their crew quarters recharging, and still others were in the med bay and the equipment locker. The ship they used to get to Earth was quite large and getting all of the occupants to one designated area took a little while.

Still the Cavalier waited patiently. Once the last of the crew was accounted for, Hot Rod stood and made his way to Iron Hide’s side. The old mech had a lot on his hands and the fire encrusted racer knew it. He had to do something while the twins were out. He knew that the security chief was not going to be happy with the decision he had made on his own, but something had to be done.

He addressed the Autobots who were all a twitter with activity.

“Alright everyone. I know Iron Hide called us all here for a reason, but if I may, I think I have something to say before hand. “

Hot Rod placed a hand on Iron Hide’s shoulder and looked the old war horse right in the optics.

“I’m sorry Iron Hide, but I had to do something. I took it upon myself to call in the big guns.”

With his final words the doors to the mess hall slid opened revealing one more mech who was not accounted for in the ship. Standing in the doorway was a transformer of imposing size. The silhouette of the mech was large and showed no color or form distinctions. The only definite coloration was that of his optics. They were of a brilliant blue and seemed to take in everything all at once. He scanned the audience who all began to whisper amongst themselves.

It seemed a lifetime that he stood there to those present until finally he moved in toward them all. Bright blue legs sparkled in the light. Finally the mech’s upper body became visible it was a radiant red color. More whispers filled the room as the transformer moved fully into the light. Finally a room full of gasps filled the air as Optimus Prime arrived.

Mess Hall

Bumblebee was taken totally by surprise by the arrival of Optimus Prime, although the yellow minibot was always happy to see his command and chief he knew that if he was here the situation was bad. He stared in wonder as Prime walked into the room and looked over the assembled Autobots, and suddenly Bumblebee found himself standing straighter, almost like he was ordered to stand at attention.

"Holy Primus! Optimus, when did you get here?" Was all Bumblebee could blurt out. "What is it that we are facing here?" He said thinking out loud somewhat.

Wheeljack on the other hand just staired in silent awe. Although he had been in the presence of Optimus Prime many times, it had been so long since the last time the engineer had seen his leader it was a shock for him to suddenly appear like he has. Suddenly all of his mental numbness from what he had to do to Jazz to get the much needed data was washed away. If Prime was here the situation was bad and Wheeljack couldn't be beating himself up over risks he had to take if he was to be of any use.

When Skids finally finished picking his jaw up from the floor after seeing Optimus Prime come in, the first thought that went through his mind was Oh no..., as he slumped in his chair a little and got a bit of a depressed look.

It wasn't that Skids didn't like Prime... not at all. He had a great respect for the Autobot leader. It was more that, Prime almost never showed up personally unless the matter was vitally important, and Skids doubted that boded well for the beings on this planet. And he hadn't even gotten many chances yet to observe the humans and their planet in person! Too soon, it was too soon this time for things to go wrong...

He decided to cling for the moment to the thought that maybe Hot Rod had overreacted, and whatever Ironhide was going to tell them wasn't that dire after all. Still, he couldn't quite shake the worried feeling in his spark as he waited in nervous silence for the report on what was happening.

Mess hall

Ironhide had just been about to start as the rest of the 'bots came through, and then Hot Rod interupted him. His face first lit up with indignation, and then confusion as Hot Rod then apologised. Apologies? Whatever for?

It was then that everyone's attention came to the doors, that Ironhide properly figured out what the hell was going on, and as Optimus Prime, to wholm he was a trusted advisor and leautenant stepped in, he was flabbergasted, his faceplate opened wide as his cheeks puffed out.

"Well.. i'll be a damned son of a trash-collector.. How the dang hells did you get here without me knowin' about it? I thought you were on Heradus Secondus!!" he said explosively, his optics immediately flashing towards Hot Rod. The young bot had gone over his head! He couldn't bloody believe it! "Hot Rod you had better not be tellin' me you went over my head!!!"

However, as much as he was angry, he was also relieved. He wasn't looking forwards to giving the Autobots his report and assigning objectives. Now, perhaps they'd get through whatever was going on in more than one piece now that they had Prime. He was a good tactician, a very good strategist, a quite potent warrior, but Prime was that bit better.

Patience was not one of Smokescreen’s virtues. He was a race car, after all, and liked to do things as quickly as possible without compromising the mission at hand. Of course, Smokey was not currently on a mission. Instead, he was awaiting word from Ironhide about what had been discovered inside Jazz’s memory banks. But that didn’t change the fact that he wanted to find out what that info was sooner rather than later. The wait was killing the red and blue mech as Ironhide simply stood at the head of the main table while the other Autobots arrived in the mess hall.

Sitting next to Smokescreen at the main table was Trailbreaker, who appeared much more calm and patient then his Aubobot friend. ‘Breaker was in no real rush to find out the bad news nor was he looking forward to the inevitable conflict with the Decepticons that would surely follow. The black mech was not afraid of battle - far from it. He just hated how much fuel he would waste in the process. Although, it would give him a chance to try out his new fuel cap device that Wheeljack had made for him. Hopefully, that would work the way it should.

Moments later, Smokescreen leaned in closer to Trailbreaker and whispered, “What’s Ironhide waiting for? Most of us are here now. We need to find out what’s going on so we can stop the ‘cons before it’s too late.”

“Patience, my racing friend,” ‘Breaker responded quietly. “Ironhide knows what’s he’s doing. Besides, you don’t want to….” Trailbreaker’s voice trailed off, as a familiar shape filled the mess hall’s doorway. The black mech knew before anyone else who that shape belonged to. “Optimus!”

“What?!?” Smokescreen said as he looked to the doorway in astonishment. Then he watched as Optimus Prime entered the room. The Autobot leader was an imposing figure to be sure, but always a welcome sight. Smokey had the upmost respect for Optimus. The diversion expert would follow Prime anywhere into any battle.

But why was he here? It was highly unusual for Prime to be on a small backwater world like this. Unless, of course, things were far worse than anyone had previously imagined. These thoughts echoed inside the heads of both Smokescreen and Trailbreaker as the two ‘bots stood from their seats and saluted their supreme leader.

Ark 19 -- Entrance

Brawn grumbled a string of expletives quietly as he entered the Autobot base of operations. He had just gotten out for a little R&R and was not pleased to be called back so soon. The urgency of the meeting was not lost on him, but still, it would be nice to explore a bit of the mud ball they were currently living on. Soon, he was sure, he’d have a chance to see just how hostile the environment could be on earth. The challenge appealed to his sense of adventure more so than the war with the Decepticons. Sure stomping the enemy gave him some kicks, but it was getting old. Millions of years of the same sort of thing took its toll on all the Autobots.

Despite his grumpy feelings about having to return to base, Brawn was curious about what this meeting had in store. Having the Autobots meet in the seldom used mess hall seemed unusual. Surely something unexpected was about to transpire. Breaking into a jog, Brawn hurried along the corridors hoping he hadn’t missed the surprise yet.

Entering the mess hall Brawn saw only one Autobot: Optimus Prime. A grin spread across face. The presence of their leader could mean only one thing, and it wasn’t good for the Decepticons. Grinding his fist into his palm as a subconscious demonstration of his excitement of what was to come, Brawn finally took his place amongst the other Autobots.

“Alright, Optimus! Those Decepticreeps are going to be sorry you’re here. Once we get finished booting their sorry tailgates across the galaxy, we’ll finally get some peace and quiet.”

"Prime's here?" a voice called out, coming from a bot, entering the doorways, behind Brawn. It was Cliffjumper, almost late for the meeting. He'd been hoping they'd finally be called in for a full scale attack against the Decepticon's forces, but Prime was here! Whatever he had to say, it was sure to be important.

Cliffjumper picked a spot in the room and took to it, waiting for Prime to speak. While, not a patient Autobot, he stood still, as quiet as can be. What if Prime told them to do the exact opposite of what he'd been hoping. Cliffjumper hated laying low. They knew what the Decepticons were capable of, so why not go and stop them? Of course, this was just Cliffjumper speculating. It was all up to Optimus to decide, of course...

Sunstreaker grumbled to Sideswipe the entire way to the mess hall. Meetings, even urgent ones, weren’t really anything that interested him. Ironhide would babble some nonsense, probably scold him for something that he had done and then they would all move on. It was a waste of time, for him at least. Maybe the others got something of value from these little sit downs but he never did. Better they should be out fighting or actually doing something than talking about doing something.

Mess Hall

He arrived and quickly took a seat. He made a bit of a show at showing how bored he was. He folded his arms over his chest. As time passed he began letting out loud sighs. Then he began drumming his fingers on the arm of the chair. This was even worse than a regular meeting. Now he was waiting for everyone to get their afts into the room.

Finally it looked like the meeting was about to begin when Hot Rod piped up. He glared at the annoying little punk. He seemed to think he was hot stuff, thinking he was one of the top warriors. To Sunstreaker he was just another Autobot drone, one with ambitions bigger than he could handle. Now he was going to delay the meeting even more.

He was about to put Hot Rod in his place when Optimus Prime himself strolled in. The warrior’s optics widened slightly. It was a rare moment where he was briefly rendered speechless. He hadn’t heard the slightest word about the supreme commander showing up. That meant only one thing. The slag had really hit the fan. A smirk spread across his face. That was exactly the kind of thing he was looking for. Put him in the middle of the worst situation possible, surrounded by Decepticons he could smash up, and he was happy.

Sunstreaker elbowed Sideswipe. “Looks like things just got shifted into high gear if Big Red and Blue is here himself. I’m thinking our infiltration days may finally be over bro.”

"Prime.."

The presence of Optimus was enough to make any Autobot shudder. He wasn't supposed to be here. Earth was important, yes, but most believed Ironhide could handle it. Now, actual completion of their mission was in doubt, as none knew the severity of the problem. With as much potential as this planet had shown, it inversely possessed a great destructive capability with the rich Energon deposits that lay buried under the Earth's crust.

Hound was undeterred. The presence of Optimus was unnecessary; He would continue to protect this planet, no matter how severe the situation. Of course, he was all too happy to know they had the backup of none other than the Boss. Now all that was left were Jazz's datatracks to go over.

Optimus Prime’s bright blue optics lit up slightly as he took in the soldiers and friends sitting at attention in the mess hall. He could remember each of them when they first arrived as a rag tag bunch in the Autobot army. They have certainly turned into a formidable fighting force, thought Prime. Each one has his own quirks, but he knew he could count on any one of them in a moments notice.

Prime stepped forward into the hall and looked down on Ironhide. He placed a hand on the mechs shoulder as he took the datapad form the security officer’s hand.

“Thank you, Ironhide, I’ll take things from here.”

Looking over the information on the pad, Prime’s optics grew into narrow slits. A humph made its way from his vocalize as he scrutinized the situation. Optimus turned to his side and crossed his arms over his broad chest. Head bowed he began to process the goings on according to Jazz.

After some time Prime finally raised his head and began to make aware the situation to his soldiers.

“It would seem that we have a problem with the inhabitants of this planet. According to the data Jazz recovered from the Decepticons some humans have come across some sort of Cybertronian technology.”

The large mech turned to face his men as he continued.

“I believe the Decepticons are as interested in this recent discovery as we are. However, we have to be the first to recover the technology. Who knows what would happen to this world if the humans make use of our tech.”

Prime took in the murmurs and idle chatter as he took time to complete the briefing.

“I will be taking a squadron to the location in order to recover the technology. A small crew will stay behind to man the base.”

Optimus turned to leave.

“I want all of you ready on my call. That will be all.”

Prime left the mess hall and began to make his way to the control room for a status check of all systems in base and on his men.

Skids listened raptly as Optimus Prime began to speak... then had his jaw drop for a second time as heard what the news was, his processor instantly starting to whirl with thoughts. He forced himself to pay attention to the rest of the briefing, then, as soon as Prime left, moved to pace against the wall and give himself over entirely to analysis-mode, as it were.

The humans had Cybertronian technology! How had he missed that?! Granted, at the current time he was mainly limited to receiving whatever was a broad public transmission, and such a discovery was likely to be kept secret, but he still was kicking himself for not seeing any signs. All that time monitoring, and he had missed something as important as this!

He had to admit part of him was secretly proud of the humans. He had always hated the Tyrest Accord... hated that they simply monitored the Decepticons' destructive protocols without giving the organics the means to help defend themselves. But he had never said so much as a word that he felt that way... he very much did not want to deal with an Enforcer, even if it was just in the form of receiving a lecture. And this situation wasn't ideal - without the Autobots' guidance to help them, there certainly were humans that would use the technology for destructive purposes if given the chance.

Well. Hopefully he could help do something about that.

He turned from his pacing and went over to Ironhide, his words coming out in an excited rush. "Ironhide, sir, I'm terribly sorry that I failed part of my mission duties by not discovering all of this sooner, but I hope I can rectify that now. Can you tell me the location of where the humans are that have our technology? Perhaps it's someplace that I've heard of, and I can retrieve what information I possess to aid us in infiltrating."

Smokescreen and Trailbreaker listened carefully as Optimus Prime spoke about the humans having obtained Cybertronian technology. It was a shock to both of them that this had somehow occurred. They looked silently at one another as Prime then mentioned taking a squadron to retrieve the tech before the humans could use it or the Decepticons could acquire it.

A squadron? Smokey thought, his optics widening. Excellent idea! Finally, some real action besides just racing slowpoke humans or planting observation equipment. I need to be on that team. However, before the diversion expert could speak up and volunteer, Optimus had already made his way out of the mess hall.

“Slag it,” the diversion expert said in an irritated tone. “I wanted to volunteer for the squadron, but Prime left already.”

Trailbreaker regarded his blue and red friend with a smile. “I wouldn’t worry about it, Smokey. I’m sure Prime will consider you for the team. You have unique skills, after all.” Patting Smokey on the shoulder, the black mech rose from the table and headed for the door.

Smokescreen thought about what ‘Breaker had just said to him. He’s probably right. I’m sure Prime will include me. It would be a mistake not to considering my abilities. Smokey then noticed Bumblebee standing nearby. Hmmm, maybe my minibot friend could put in a good word for me with Prime. Couldn't hurt to try. However, I need to be subtle and not so obvious.

Getting up from his chair, Smokescreen approached Bumblebee. “So, ‘Bee, what do you think about all this? I hope to be included on the squadron. I know I could be of great help. How ‘bout you?”

Mess Hall

Bumblebee stared in awe at Prime, although the yellow minibot had come a long way from the insecure, reckless spy he had been all that long ago on Cybertron, he still idolized Prime. How could he not? Optimus Prime was perhaps the greatest of the Prime's to date. Strong, brave, wise, compassionate and much more, his very presence was enough to bring a sense of calm and certainty to Bumblebee.

He listened to what Prime had to say, and he was a little shocked. He couldn't believe what he had heard, the humans had Cybertronian tech? How the frag did it even get on this planet? Could this lead to the possibility that the Autobots might actually come into conflict with humans? Bumblebee was suddenly very uncertain about what was to come, but he also knew Prime was right, they had to find out what was going on and recover what the humans had. If anyone could find the best possible way to resolve this situation it was Prime and Bumblebee would be there do what ever he could to help.

After Optimus departed from the Mess Hall Bumblebee was about to follow him up to the Command Deck and resume his normal duties when Smokescreen approached him.

"I think this is a pretty bad situation to be honest Smokey... humans with our tech can be dangerous... I meant if they don't know what they are messing with they could do some serious damage to us and to themselves. I mean I like this people from what I've seen of them, but I'm not blind to the fact that not all of them have the best of intentions at heart." Bumblebee began to make his way out of the mess hall and turned to Smokescreen. "Well I'm not sure if I can give Prime any advice on the team he is going to pick, he knows all of our abilities pretty well... but if the opportunity comes up I'll put in a good word. I am sure he is going to need some of us to run interference and keep any humans distracted from the big op."

With that Bumblebee left the mess hall and made his way back to his station on the command deck.

"Whoa, that is some pretty heavy stuff there." Wheeljack said leaning forward to rest his elbows on the table, speaking to no one in particular, after Optimus Prime had made his announcement. "I wonder what the humans could have? A transwarp drive? Spark chamber? A laser core? Slag, it could even been some poor off line mech, Primus knows enough of our guys and Decepticons have gone MIA out in space since the war began."

The engineer stood up after Prime had departed. He wasn't sure if he was going to be needed for the squadron Optimus was going to put together, but he was certain at some point he was going to be called in. Whenever Optimus decided that Wheeljack's skills were required the engineer wanted to be ready.

Corridors
Wheeljack left the Mess Hall not long after Bumblebee did, but instead of following the yellow minibot up to the command deck, the engineer instead headed down to his workshop in the computer lab. He wanted to inspect his tools and equipment to make sure everything was running at top efficiency for when he was called upon.

Messhall

Roadbuster choose to remain outside the hatch and listen during the meeting. He only wanted to hear the situation it was too soon to make any decisions and he didn’t feel the need to converse with his comrades. As Optimus Prime passed him leaving the mess hall, all he could do was stand at attention. His presence meant that the situation required it, and that perhaps someone was not confident that Ironhide could handle this potential threat. Just what exactly had the humans found that wold bring Prime to Earth?

As he watched some of his comrades leave the mess hall he took the chance to approach Ironhide. Roadbuster approached Skids and Ironhide and stood there patiently waiting to speak to Ironhide. As he waited he thought of the battle to come and a grin of excitement came across his face. This was indeed what he lived for, although he was not certain he would be selected for the mission. He could only prepare for the battle to come and wait for orders.

Mess hall

Sometimes, there were times where your feelings couldn't be easily explained. Yet they hit you like a fist in the servos, or a laser blast square between the eyes. You didn't know how to actually deal with them.

For Ironhide, the problem was multiplex, confusing. On one hand, Prime was a good friend, his commander, an able leader who, dispite lacking in his experience had the tactical genius that he only had occasionally. As he had felt before, the arrival of Prime took him out of his awkward position in that he was going to order an operation that was likely to get messy incredibly quickly. He thought back briefly, to the several stasis chambers in the bowels of the ship where they kept their more... militant members of the Autobots. One of them had specifically requested to be kept in stasis until the decepticon Infiltration protocals were broken and open conflict began. However, he had a feeling this was about to go past that. They may need them all just to replace any potential losses. Area fifty one was one of the most well-defended and monitored bases on the planet according to Jazz's data.

HYet on the other hand, he felt like he'd just had the wind taken from his sails. His command was gone now. What was worse, he didn't know if Prime's personal intervention on this operation was to do with a forseen escalation that he wasn't aware of yet, or that he was starting to doubt his leadership. How could he? Ironhide growled softly underneath his breath and clenched his fist as Prime gave the barest information of what they knew. If he didn't respect him as much and knew the other bots would probably try something rash, he'd openly call Prime out for what he percieved was a snub to end all snubs.

'How could he? I'm one of his longest standin' commanders, that damn varmitin' bot cant think i'm not up to this...' he thought to himself.

By the time Prime had left, he was practically smoldering, so much so that when Skids approached and began to speak, he was probably almost cowed into silence by the death glare that approached him as Ironhide turned to him. His optics practically blazed with fury. However, almost as soon as they did, they calmed down, as Ironhide attempted to control his temper. This wasn't the time to be throwing any sort of strop.

"It's called Area 51 kid.." he replied, glancing over to Roadbuster as he calmly waited for the old mech to finish. "The united states keeps it locked up tighter than Fort. Maximus..." as everyone was leaving, he resignedly shifted over to one of the seats and slumped down, resting one arm on the table whilst he placed the over other the top of his armoured thigh. "don't worry.. they've got some good number crunchers, i'm sure if yer didn't already know about it it wouldn't of been worth knowin' ter roll out the troops this quickly... Yer wanted somethin' Roadbuster?" he asked, looking over to the other mech.

He was narced, to put it bluntly

All Brawn's aprehension about coming on this mission to earth melted away in a nano-second once Optimus filled in the Autobots on the reason why he'd come to earth to join them. In fact, Brawn was thrilled at the prospects of going on such a recovery mission. He knew he would be useful as ever because of his small size and great strength. Such a combination made him useful in a variety of roles aside from his programming in demolitions. Though he wasn't as fast on wheels as some of the sportier Autobots, he could more than hold his own on foot.

Brawn was sure every available Autobot would want in on this mission, but he meant to make sure that he was included. Being left behind to watch the Ark was not where Brawn wanted to be. He was nearly useless at the data collection that Ironhide had assigned to him. Truly, it was probably little more than busy work meant to distract him from his lack of action lately. It was a simple fact that some Autobots weren't programmed to do some things. Sitting around the base doing nothing wasn't for Brawn. He was an Autobot of action.

He quickly left the mess hall giving Trailbreaker a thumbs up as he passed by chuckling to himself. Running to catch up to Optimus Prime's long stride, Brawn fell in next to their leader. Brawn had never felt any need to treat Prime any different than any other Autobot, the notion of protocols lost on him.

"Hey Optimus. I know you need me on that mission. What do you need me to do to get ready?"

Brawn's presumptiveness was born of his machismo. He needed to be on this mission perhaps more than some of the others. To be denied at this point would be a serious blow to his ego. By presuming he was going, he was unconsciously trying to make it more awkward for Optimus Prime to leave him behind. Happily unaware of his attempt to manipulate his leader, he accompanied Prime to the control room.

Since the Autobot team had arrived on Earth Aftershot had been coped up on the ship with most of the rest of the team. Since Ironhide wanted to keep things low key the Autobot flier had been kept inside. It was maddening. As can be expected of a mech of his design Aftershot desperately wanted to get out and take to the air, even if it was a short ranged patrol or a recon mission around the slagging planet, it didn't matter to him. When Ironhide had called the meeting he had hoped it would finally give him the opportunity to get out and do something, of course he had been blown away like the rest of the crew by the appearance of the big bot himself, Optimus Prime. With the news the Autobot leader had delivered Aftershot was on the edge of his seat, it only meant he would finally get out there!

After the meeting was over and the others began to disperse he jumped to his feet and followed Optimus Prime out of the Mess Hall and into the corridors. When he finally caught up to the large mech he found Brawn was already with him. Aftershot fell into step just behind Optimus and opposite of Brawn.

"Er, Optimus Prime, sir." Aftershot began nervously, the flier wasn't anywhere near as closely associated with the Autobot leader like many other members of the crew. "I just wanted to let you know I am ready to go to lend you any aid I can on this mission. If you need any sort of aerial recon of this Area 51 I am up for the task, I am even ready and able to go for air support once you have selected the ground team for deployment."

Aftershot felt foolish, he had come across as sounding way to desperate to be a part of this upcoming mission to his own audio processors. Regardless he was hoping that Prime would give him the go ahead to finally get out there.

Mess Hall

Roadbuster looked at Ironhide’s clenched fists as he listened to the bot inform him of what he had missed. Most bots who commanded long enough, got used to being the go to bot and Prime’s appearance had obviously gotten his attention and perhaps even hit his ego. As Ironhide sat down Roadbuster took a seat across from him and sat up straight with his hands on his knees.

“I’m certain if I were in your position Prime’s appearance would get under my alloy. Just remember that he may have his reasons for being here, hell for all we know he may not want to be here anymore than I’d want him here. The point I’m trying to make is that just because he is here doesn’t mean that things don’t funnel through you, we still have a chain of command and as long as they understand that there should be no problems. Besides sometimes we need someone to help us with the load, while every other bot is out there trying to focus on get on this mission you can focus on preparing for the mission. I apologize if It sounds like I’m lecturing, but as far as I understand we still don’t have enough information to prepare correctly for a threat.”

Roadbuster paused for a moment not sure if he had overstepped his boundaries. As he waited in silence he thought of the things he would rather be doing such as counting ammunition and recalibrating his weapons, anything that would be more productive than sitting and waiting for word to pass.
