The pure Look of Death that Ironhide gave him made Skids' fuel pump lurch, and he did indeed freeze and cringe, expecting some sort of lecture on his negligence. But when Ironhide seemed to soften a little and answer him calmly, Skids relaxed a little, realizing his commander must be upset with something else instead.

But for the moment that was forgotten as the tidbit of information turned in his head. Area 51... that seemed vaguely familiar somehow... he started searching his internal database. Eventually it clicked to him where he had heard of it, and he groaned a little out loud, feeling even more guilty once he realized what he must have missed. As he finally snapped his attention back to his surroundings, he noticed that Roadbuster seemed to have paused in his conversation for a moment, and interjected to share his findings with Ironhide.

"I have heard of Area 51, sir. I know it's a facility devoted to experimental weapons research. And... it's also a facility rumored to be devoted to the study of any extraterrestrials that have visited this planet.

"Key word being 'rumored', however," Skids added hurriedly. "There are a number of reports and stories available about the supposed presence of extraterrestrials in Area 51, but... they're all either fictional, or implied to be the product of crazies and conspiracy theorists. I had thus figured it wasn't worth wasting anyone's time with information that even the humans find dubious... but if the humans really do possess extraterrestrials in their facility - namely, something that is or belongs to us - then my judgment was obviously faulty.

"I could give you what I've managed to record on the matter so far, however. Although I'm unsure now how to tell which of it might be legitimately helpful and which might not."

"Thanks Bumblebee. I’d appreciate it,” Smokescreen replied as the yellow minibot left the mess hall. If ‘Bee is able to put in a good word for me with Prime, I’ll be on the team for sure, Smokey thought as he glanced around the room at the various other Autobots. Some were still mingling about while others had already left, including Trailbreaker, who seemed to be following Optimus back up to the command deck.

Regardless, Smokescreen had to find something productive to do while he waited for his leader’s instructions. Perhaps I should just go back down to the labs and continue monitoring the ship’s computer systems for potential intrusions, which were Ironhide’s previous orders anyway. I’m sure Prime would not tolerate a breach of any kind, especailly not now.

In the past, Smokey had never considered the humans or their primitive software and viruses to be a viable threat to the Ark-19’s systems. But now that they have somehow obtained Cybertronian technology, things must be reconsidered. The humans could have potentially learned enough about an Autobot computer network to pose a serious threat to the security of the sensitive data stored on the mainframe. The Decepticons were no longer the only danger to take into account.

With his mind made up, the diversion expert exited the mess hall and made his way through the ship towards the computer lab.

Corridors

Having left the mess hall just moments before, Trailbreaker slowly caught up to Optimus Prime who was already flanked by both Brawn and Aftershot. The two ‘bots were offering their services for the upcoming mission with the hopes that Prime would pick them to be a part of the team.

‘Breaker, on the other hand, was not so quick to volunteer. His high fuel consumption was still an issue even though he had the new capping device that Wheeljack had provided him. However, the device was untested, and the black mech didn’t think a mission of this importance was the best place to test one of Wheeljack’s gadgets. It could fail and ‘Breaker would then be worse off than before.

Smirking at Brawn’s presumptive comments, Trailbreaker placed a hand on the demolitions expert’s shoulder. “So, you think Prime wants you going along blowing things up, huh, tough guy?” Breaker said with a grin and a wink. “I’m sure if he wants anything reduced to rubble, you’ll be the first one he’ll call on. Ha ha!”

Trailbreaker then turned to the Autobot leader. “Optimus, I just wanted to say how good it is to see you again, sir. It’s been a long while.” Breaker then took a deep breath. “If I may, sir. I would like to volunteer to remain behind on this mission. I feel I could better serve you here at the base. My fuel consumption is still a problem, and I’m afraid that my slow speed will only compromise the team's safety.”

A few astroseconds passed before ‘Breaker then added, “Of course, I’ll follow whatever orders you see fit to give me, Optimus.”

Med Bay

It had taken awhile, but Jazz was finally stable. Ratchet stood back as he removed the an examination monocle from his right optic. Wires, buses, registers, spare CPU parts, chopped up servos, and more cluttered the floor. Mech-fluid stained the most of the ground that was actually open. He rubbed his hand against his face plate and stood still for a moment. After pausing, he activated the nearest CR chamber. As it warmed up, he turned on the speakers for the case dictation.

"Case: Jazz. Severe injuries to overall armor, chassis, and servo parts. Critical damage to spark chamber, memory systems, and laser core system," he sighed. "Jazz - patient - appears to be stable now. However, will suffer from severe retrograde amnesia spanning for about 7 solar cycles due to forced magnetic retrieval of his main memory systems. Anterograde amnesia may, and probably will, result as a consequence of the trauma from the injury. Other than that, some soreness and time off from combat, though he'll probably ignore both. Surgery on his laser core, particularly on his robocampal and prefrontal corticon areas, stabilized him. Some patching up of major bodily injuries. CR chamber time will take care of the rest."

As he ended the recording, he pressed a combination in to automatically move Jazz's body into the chamber. As it closed, he opened up a com-link to Ironhide.

>> Ratchet here. Jazz is finally stable. Looks like he's going to pull through. He'll be in the CR chamber for awhile, but as you can guess I'm recommending more recovery time after he's conscious. For some reason, I don't see that happening. Anyways, I'm not exactly a religious 'bot, but someone wanted him to get out of there. Whatever information you got out of him, be sure to remember that someone might not be friendly and may very well want us back there, too. Enough combat talk from me, though. What's the situation?

Locked up in the med-bay, he'd obviously no idea.

Command Deck

The command deck was quite and deserted for what felt like the first time since the Autobots had arrived on Earth. That was no surprise to Bumblebee given that Optimus Prime himself was now here. Even a brief visit by the Autobot leader was enough to suggest that a given situation was important that it required his direct attention, but to have Optimus actually leading a mission meant things were potentially very very bad. This troubled Bumblebee.

He may not of seen as much combat as other Autobots, but he had been in this war long enough to know when an infiltration mission was on the cusp of breaking down. He could shake that feeling in his transistors now. Humans with Cybertronian technology meant they were at least partially aware of the presences of the Autobots and Decepticons, perhaps even had an idea that they might be on Earth. This mission could get very complicated and dangerous if the humans tried to put an end to the Cybertronian presence themselves. That could be very bad as Bumblebee was sure the Decepticons would just pull out and burn the planet and everyone on it.

Regardless of what the Humans were up to the yellow minibot had new concerns on his mind. With the discovery that humans possessed Cybertronian tech he had been wondering what the humans had been able to learn from what ever device, of frag even a mech. Depending on who or what they had they could of learned how to detect, track down and possibly even hack into the Ark-19's security systems and could be crawling through the ships computer systems. With this concern in mind Bumblebee began a detailed review of the ships security records to look for any sort of anomaly that could indicate a potential security breach.

Computer Lab

With all the activity that had been going on over the past few planetary cycles Wheeljack had little time to do a proper inspection of his work area. He had a number of the others asking him to come up with some sort of invention or another, not unusual at all, but the level of activity he had been asked to deal with he had the feeling he had been working non-stop. Now with Optimus here the attention of the crew was now directed in another direction.

As Wheeljack began to clear away a lot of the clutter on his work station he was certain that at this moment many of the crew were trying to get Prime's attention, hoping they would be selected from the mission he was going to lead. Wheeljack understood where they were coming from, most of the crew had very little chance to get off the ship since they had arrived and this mission was the perfect opportunity to get out. Maybe even to smash some Decepticon cranial plates. Regardless the Autobot inventor was certain that Optimus was well aware of the capabilities of all of his mechs here and he would only choose the Autobots best suited for the task ahead.

Smokescreen entered the labs and quickly took a seat at his workstation. In his haste, he had barely noticed Wheeljack who was clearing his own area just across the room. The diversion expert was too focused on the task at hand. He had to make sure that the ship’s systems had not been compromised by the humans, who had acquired Cybertronian technology. His safeguards were more geared towards thwarting a Decepticon intrusion rather than a human one.

Smokey brought up his computer display and entered the appropriate access codes. Instantly, he was into the Ark-19’s mainframe. First, he checked the integrity of the firewall to ensure that it was still strong and stable. Both appeared to be true. It was still functioning at full capacity. Smokescreen then checked the Intrusion Log to see if there were any breaches or attempted breaches to the system. As he scanned down the list of recorded events, he saw the usual “unsolicited connection” attempts that were common for any computer system attached to the human internet to encounter. They were not serious and had been successfully blocked with ease.

However, as he reached the end of the log, Smokescreen noticed several entries that drew his attention over the rest. What the slag are these? There had been twelve attempts to gain access to the Ark-19’s mainframe approximately one cycle ago. They had occurred very close together and were more intense then the usual efforts. Without delay, the red and blue Autobot accessed the details of these intrusion attempts and discovered what he had feared most. Evidence of Cybertronian code had been detected intermingled with standard human coding. It was only a small amount, appearing to strengthen the humans’ own intrusion program, but the cyber-code was definitely present in all twelve access attempts.

Smokescreen quickly initiated a trace on one of the intrusion entries to hopefully learn its origin. As he did this, Smokey noticed that someone was currently viewing the same firewall log he was looking at. Thankfully, it was only Bumblebee, who apparently had the same idea as the diversion expert.

The racing mech opened a commlink to the yellow minibot. >> Bumblebee, it’s Smokescreen down in the computer lab. I can see on my screen here that you’re reviewing the firewall security log. I just wanted to let you know that I just reviewed it, myself, and I found something very troubling. Apparently, there were twelve attempted breaches to the system firewall while we were in our meeting. All attempts to gain access were unsuccessful. So our data is safe and was NOT compromised. However, these specific attempts show signs of Cybertronian code mixed in with regular human programming. I’m currently running a trace program to determine the origin of the attempts. This may take a while, however, and may not give us an exact location. Please advise. <<

Command Deck

Bumblebee frowned as he saw the entries that Smokescreen had just reported to him. He had feared something like this would happen, even though the humans attempts to get into the Autobots computer systems were clumsy and had stood no chance of actually getting past the security barriers Smokescreen had in place. However, just from reviewing these logs he could see that each attempt was more aggressive then the last and the humans seemed to be trying to simple break a hole in their system with the computer equivalent of brute strength.

>> I want you to keep a close optic on our security net for any further attempts by the humans to gain entry into our computer systems, Smokescreen. I really doubt that they'll stop once they failed this time, and I would bet that their next attempt will be more aggressive, perhaps using a different method to try and hack us. I would say you might be able to trace back these attempts to this Area-15 Prime just told us about, or the Pentagon or CIA headquarters, or some place like that assuming it is this nation-state behind it. Maybe you should check with Skids about possible other locations on this planet that might have the capability to detect our network. I need to inform Optimus and Ironhide about this.<<

Bumblebee closed his comm link to Smokescreen as he downloaded the security log onto a data pad and stood up. He then keyed in his comm again.

>>Ironhide, this is Bumblebee. Me and Smokescreen just noticed that the humans made about a dozen attempts a breem or two ago to hack our computer system. They did not gain entry to our systems and Smokescreen is already working on tracking down the origin of these attempts, though I am concerned that the humans might know the location of the Ark-19 if they can find our computer network. I am on my way to inform Prime of this myself, Bumblebee out.<<

The yellow minibot then quickly left the command deck and made his way through the corridors of the Ark-19 to track down the Autobot leader. He found Optimus Prime with a small entourage of other Autobots talking to him about taking part on the upcoming mission to Area-51. Bumblebee quickly walked up to Prime and presented him with the data pad with the downloaded security information.

"Optimus, sorry to bother you like this, but me and Smokescreen just detected that the humans made attempts to gain access to our computer systems not to long ago. I downloaded all the data we have on the situation and we are trying to find out the origin of these hack attempts. I thought you would like to be informed of such an occurrence and I can keep you up to date as the situation develops."

Bumblebee looked up as his leader hoping he wasn't just another mech swarming him with little concerns that could be set aside for later.

Med Bay

Nanos turned to astros turned to cycles. Only silence rang through the room.

"Never a good sign when he doesn't answer," Ratchet sighed as he closed his com-link to Ironhide. He sat down and attempted to relax his body, only to elicit creaks and groans from all of his servos. Being a medic told him one thing: he wasn't in the best operational status. Ignoring his state, he deactivated his optics and attempted to go into temporary stasis - just a quick rest.

It didn't last long. Memories of Autobots with horrific injuries flashed through his processor. He knew what was happening. His optics burst on.

Can't deal with that now... Where is Wheeljack, anyway?

As he turned out, he looked back. "Still a mess," he muttered.

After walking out, Ratchet made his way to the computer lab.

"Fancy handiwork you had back there with Jazz," Ratchet said to Wheeljack's back. "He's stable now and shouldn't suffer too much data loss in his circuitry." He smiled. "And what did I tell you about using your experiments on my patients?"

Wheeljack had been lost in his own thoughts when he heard Ratchet speak behind him. The Autobot engineer turned in his seat to look at the medic.

"That's good to hear about Jazz, I was worried there that I might have badly damaged his processor. I've only used that device a few times before... and so far Jazz is the best one to come out of it." Wheeljack shrugged a little. "And it wasn't an experiment, I've gotten that thing refined as best as I can... and I still don't like using it, even on Decepticons." He said with a clear hint of irritation in his voice.

Wheeljack had just about pushed that unpleasant experience out of his thoughts, but Ratchet had just brought that back into the front of his mind.

Ratchet was taken aback a bit.

"Oh don't get your transistors all stalled up, Wheeljack," Ratchet sighed. He had hit a sore spot alright and he was hoping that, as usual, some light comments could whisk away that memory.

At least Jazz won't have to remember.

"Cheer up, Wheeljack. Battle humor heals all wounds," Ratchet said, putting his arm on the engineer's shoulder. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring that back up. Spark knows I don't want to keep thinking about it. I just wanted to thank you for thinking up that solution." He stepped back and brought both arms by his side. "Without whatever information Ironhide has now, our best bet for a strategy would be next thing worst to a seg fault."

Gotta change the subject...

Trailbreaker continued to follow Optimus Prime through the halls of the ship. The Autobot leader had not yet responded to Breaker’s suggestion that he remain behind on the upcoming mission. He felt bad and pretty useless that he couldn’t help out more in the field, but at least he’d be able to assist in some way back here.

Prime was currently surrounded by other mechs who were all trying to get his attention. Trailbreaker decided not to bother his leader any further. If Optimus wanted to respond to him then he would in his own good time.

Just then Bumblebee rushed up to Prime and informed him about several failed intrusion attempts into the Ark-19’s computer system by the humans. This surprised Trailbreaker as much as it would any ‘bot. Granted they had Cybertronian technology in their possession, but for the humans to learn so much to attempt a hack like that was simply baffling to the black mech.

“Are you sure it was the humans, Bumblebee?” Trailbreaker asked in a concerned tone. “Even if they already had the ability to try such a thing, how would they know where our computer was located in the first place in order to carry it out?”

Wheeljack sighed and shook himself before turning in his seat to look at Ratchet. He composed himself quickly and looked the medic in the optics.

"Don't worry about it Ratchet." The engineer said, his voice sounding like his usual optimistic self. "Last time I used that thing before Jazz it was on a Decepticon intelligence officer who wasn't talking. He had vital data on a 'Con offensive, I used the memory drill got what we wanted, but he resisted so much his processor was fried. I have taken lives in combat before and I know I make weapons, but it was just the way this thing killed him it was just so horrific." Wheeljack sighed. "Just the idea of using that thing on Jazz made me worried the same thing was going to happen to him. I'm glad to know it is just a small amount of memory loss, it could of been so much worse."

The engineer looked over his cleaned and organized work station. He had already gone over his entire station to get his equipment ready for when it was needed. He had the feeling something big was coming.

"Thanks for the offer Ratchet, but I've already got everything sorted out here." He looked back to the medic. "How about you? Need any help with anything? I suspect we are going to be seeing some action soon. If the news that brought Prime here is that severe you know Megatron is on his way, or even on Earth already. And you know what happens when you get Megatron and Optimus in the same theater of conflict, the situation quickly escalates."

Corridors

After presenting Optimus with the data pad, Bumblebee turned to face Trailbreaker.

"From what me and Smokescreen were able to determine the code behind the hack attempts were human in origin with Cybertronian mixed in. It seems like they have either figured us out, or have at least detected computer networks they suspect of being alien in origin." Bumblebee shrugged to the taller, black mech. "I wish it wasn't true, but I think the humans are on to us. I like these people but if they find us they might become a threat if they are seeking to secure more of our tech."

Skids' head jerked up slightly as the comm registered on his internal systems. Since Ironhide seemed to still be digesting his report on the nature of Area 51, he decided to listen to and acknowledge Smokescreen's message for the moment.

(OOC: We are very disappointed that you guys would go over our heads and start an outside storyline not approved by us. We would like you all to know that posting about things like sparring and the like is acceptable, but posting something as major as bringing in the native populace of a planet in the infiltration stage of the war is frowned upon. Next time speak to either Dev or myself before starting a new outside storyline.)

IC:

Command Center

It had been a long and arduous journey to this planet. One that Optimus Prime had wished he did not have to take. The Autobot leader hoped he would never have to come to a planet in the infiltration stage of the war and save it from its own people. The Decepticons were one thing, but to help a species not commit genocidal suicide was a totally different story. Handling the hostile opposites to his Bots reminds him that he and his men are fighting for their freedom, the humans represent a whole new stage in that war and their planet is being toyed with as the prize.

Prime sat down at one of the many computer monitors and brought up a roster list of who was on board the Ark. He made quick note of each mech and his individual personality and function. He came across one of his old friends when he stopped. He scowled slightly as he noticed the Autobot’s status. Jazz was the one who had retrieved the vital information they now possessed, and he was currently in Ratchet’s medical bay stored in a stasis pod. According to the notes Prime had read made by Ratchet the special operations officer had received some major damage as he was pursued by Thundercracker.

Unfortunately for the mission Jazz would not be coming, but Prime did choose another mech to cover the group of infiltrators. Smokescreen would make a good addition to the team, and he did remember Bumblebee speak highly of him. Prime’s optics grew brighter as he now recalled that some of his men had spoken to him before entering the command center. He quickly swung around in his chair and noticed that Bumblebee and Trailbreaker were all waiting anxiously for an answer from him.

“I apologize for not addressing your concerns earlier. I am just distracted about this security breach that I have nothing else on my processor. Bumblebee, I want you to gather the Autobots in the briefing room. I need everyone to be on the same page with this. Trailbreaker, you would make a welcome addition to any mission, but if you feel you could be of more help to us here at base then by all means stay.”

Prime turned his back to his men knowing that each of them would perform his task quickly. He would meet with the Bots once more, this time in the briefing room for input on the mission. He needed a foolproof plan to make it into the highly secure facility, and there may be only one mech on board the ship that could give him the information he needed.

>>”Skids. I need you to come to the command center as soon as you can. I want you to bring as much intel you have on Area 51. Anything and everything would help. Prime out.”<<

>>Attention all Autobots, Prime wants us all to gather in the ships briefing room immediately.<<

After masking his announcement to the ship Bumblebee made his way through the corridors of the ship to the briefing room, Aftershot falling him close behind. The two Autobots took seats and not long after Wheeljack appeared and also sat.

Roadbuster had waited patiently for a response from Ironhide who was obviously preoccupied with other matters. Left to his own devices he drifted off into his memory banks of a battle long past, his optics went white as his frame went into standby. As an announcement over the intercom brought him back to reality he sighed to himself.

“Just when it was getting good!”

Unsure if Ironhide and Skids were still discussing matters he elected to make his way to the briefing room. He took a seat close to the hatch ignoring the other bots already seated and resumed his stroll down memory lane until the others arrived.

Smokescreen made his way through the ship towards the briefing room. It was a long trek from the computer lab, which was down on one of the lower levels of the Ark-19. The walk didn’t really bother the diversion expert all that much. It was a good excuse to exercise his servos, which he didn’t get a chance to do often. Although, Smokey wished he could just transform to vehicle mode and race through the hallways. He couldn't help it. He was a race car after all. However, he then risked running into Ironhide or even Prime. Neither would be pleased if they caught Smokey acting so recklessly. It was best to just play it safe, especially considering what was currently going on.

Briefing Room

Smokescreen arrived and took a seat at the table. A few astroseconds later, Trailbreaker entered the room and sat across from the racing ‘bot. “Hey, ‘Breaker! Long time no see!” Smokey said to the black mech in a joking tone considering they had just had a meeting in the mess hall not long ago. Trailbreaker simply responded with a friendly smile as they waited for Optimus Prime to arrive.

Mess Hall

Skids' head jerked up slightly as the comm registered on his internal systems, and after listening to it he gave Ironhide a smile tinged with the nervousness he suddenly felt. "Actually, sir, it turns out I've just received a comm from Prime-" He tapped the side of his helmet, "-and it seems that he wants whatever I've managed to record on the matter so far. I've got to get on that straight away. I'll see you on the command center later."

Corridors

As he hurriedly made his way back down to the computer lab, Skids heard Bumblebee's announcement in the back of his mind, but ignored it as he commed Optimus Prime back:

>>"Understood, sir. Give me about a half-cycle, hopefully less, to download all of the related notes I have into a report for you."<<

His thoughts then turned completely inward, walking almost on autopilot. He barely noticed as he passed by Smokescreen heading to the briefing room, too busy sorting through what information about Area 51 he remembered off the top of his head, and planning out what he would need to download.

Computer Lab

As Skids entered the lab, he made a beeline to his personal station and started working calling up every bit of information he had on Area 51. He also worked on hunting down some of the related leads he'd made a note to follow up on at some point.

He was acutely aware that he had only vague guesses at how much of this information would actually be useful. He was willing to assume that anything from the humans' fiction probably wouldn't be. The real problem would be telling how much of the non-fiction information was legitimate, and how much really was as crackpot as it was rumored to be. As he alternated between shuffling through his pile of existing datapads, and watching his various notes and records pass rapidly over his screen as they downloaded into yet another datapad, he could only hope that what intel he had would turn out to be more true than not.

Perimeter skies over Ark-19

A thunderous jet engine boomed across the skies outside Ark-19, causing a jet stream to follow in its wake. The modified F-15 had been patrolling all afternoon, ensuring that the fortification known as Ark-19 was free of Decepticon insurgents. This afternoon had produced little to report, other than a number of daring and unneeded air maneuvers, which were performed for no other reason than Air Raids own amusement. “I sure wish that Slingshot were here. I could even settle for Silverbolt scolding me at the moment.” Air Raid said as the F-15 descended towards Ark-19 heading towards the Hangar Bay.

Hangar Bay Ark-19

>> Come in Command Center, this is Air Raid requesting permission to land. Nothing to report, everything is quiet around the Perimeter of Ark-19. <<

Air Raid channeled to the Command Center while he blasted past the Control Tower at a reckless speed that sent vibrations through the Control Tower. “Ah slag, accidentally buzzed the Control Tower. I will probably have to hear about it.” Air Raid exclaimed as he started his final approached to land in the Hangar Bay.

Briefing Room

Trailbreaker sat in silence as he and the others waited for Optimus Prime to arrive. The defensive strategist had a lot on his processor. He was considering what Prime had said to him before he came down to the briefing room. I would make a welcome addition to any mission, ‘Breaker thought, echoing his leader’s words. Optimus always had a lot of faith in the black mech and his abilities. More so than ‘Breaker gave himself credit for. But Prime did say I could stay behind if I felt it was for the best. Hmmm, what should I do? I want to help my fellow Autobots out, but I don’t want to be a burden on them at the same time. Trailbreaker then bowed his head downward as he pondered whether to go on the mission or not.

Smokescreen, who was sitting directly across the table, noticed ‘Breaker’s somber mood. “You okay over there, buddy? You’re lookin’ a little down. Anything I can help you with?”

Trailbreaker glanced up at the diversion expert. “I doubt it, Smokey. Just have a lot to think about, that’s all.”

Smokescreen nodded. “I’m not surprised considering everything that’s currently going on. Just don’t let it get to you.” The red and blue mech turned to the other Autobots that were present. “We all have a lot to think about. Right, guys?”

Smokescreen hoped that some of his comrades, like Bumblebee or Wheeljack, would offer up a little encouragement to Trailbreaker, whose low self-esteem tended to get the better of him from time to time.

Briefing Room

"Cheer up big guy." Bumblebee said, leaning over and gave Trailbreaker friendly jab in the arm. "Whatever is bothering you always seems worse when it is rolling around your processor then when it is in reality. I've seen you do it a hundred time, you doubt yourself before a mission trying to back out because you think you'll only hold us back, but once the heat is on you one of the last mechs I would say that holds us back. We all trust you buddy, we can turn our backs and know that good 'ol Trailbreaker will never let us down."

The yellow minibot grinned up at the bigger, black mech from where he sat. Bumblebee knew and understood that Trailbreaker felt he could only hold the team back, but there were few Autobots who were more reliable. At times it got a little frustrating to see him constantly put himself down considering how often Trailbreaker went above and beyond the call of duty for his team mates. That might be caused by his low self esteem pushing him to give it more then the regular Autobot, but Bumblebee thought that it was because Trailbreaker was just that way regardless.

"Bumblebee is right," Wheeljack said jumping in, crossing his arms over his chest. "I think if you ask any Autobot who has served with you Trailbreaker they'll say that you're a mech that can be trusted with out question and has saved their lives on more then one occasion. Primus knows if you weren't as dependable as you are I doubt I would be on line today. Remember back on Raglan II when the 'Cons were trying to wipe out planetary resistance by dropping an asteroid on the planet? I had to build and deploy that repulsar field to push it out of orbit... if you weren't the one giving me cover while I did it I know Darkwing and Dreadwind would of blasted me to scrap metal. So before you start doubting yourself you might want to think about all of the Autobot's who are alive today thanks to you."

Aftershot had been sitting quietly as the more senior Autobots around him did their best to cheer up Trailbreaker. Although he was new to this team, most of these mechs were already legends to him, all of them a hero in some way. He had often heard Trailbreaker spoken of with the same respect as Ironhide and Jazz, but to hear the black mech talk about himself the way he did was a little surprising.

"Um... if I can say something to?" Aftershot said, a little nervous. The younger Autobot was a little overwhelmed to be here with these heroes. "But I can say for sure Trailbreaker that no one sees you as a liability. In my last unit our commander said he served with you and that you were responsible for rallying the Autobots during a hard battle against the Dececpticons... he had a great amount of respect for you sir... so I don't think you're concerns are as terrible as you make them out to be."

Aftershot let out a sigh, as if he was holding a long breath, if he could breath that is.

Too many Autobots were hanging around for Brawn’s liking, all fawning over the arrival of Optimus Prime. He’d had enough of it, so he decided to get ready with his preparations for the mission. As the procession made its way to the command center, Brawn broke off and headed towards Wheeljack’s workshop.

“Catch up with you guys later. Some of us have real work to do,” he said barely trying to mask his derision.

Making his way down the corridor alone he compiled a mental list of what he thought he might need. The thought hadn’t occurred to him that demolitions may not be what this mission needed. He just liked to be prepared to blow things up if he had to. He figured Wheeljack would be able to rig him up with some compact explosives and timers. No one ever really knew what you might find in visiting Wheeljack’s workshop. It was usually pretty entertaining being around there, especially if one got a kick out of seeing Wheeljack’s inventions blow up in his face. On more than one occasion Brawn had nearly laughed himself into stasis lock on Wheeljack’s account. To Brawn the Autobot engineer was a comedic genius.

Computer Lab

Brawn swaggered his way in through the door and bellowed, “Hey Wheeljack! Got any toys for me today?” He waited for a reply and was slightly puzzled when none came. He’d announced his arrival with customary bravado. Surely if Wheeljack was here he’d have heard him come in. Walking and peering around the odds and ends at Wheeljack’s workstation. None of it looked remotely useful to him, but what did he know about building anything anyway? He scratched his cranial unit a moment. Wonder where Wheeljack went?

Opening the communications console in his forearm, Brawn opened a comm-link to Wheeljack. <<Hey captain calamity, where’d you get off to? You’re not in the med bay are you?>>

Skids jumped a little at Brawn's bellow, managing to clunk his head on his console from where he'd been bent over underneath, digging through his datapad pile.

"Ow! Oof." He rubbed the back of his head a bit as he sat upright and looked over at Brawn. "Wheeljack is most likely at the briefing that Optimus Prime is currently holding. Isn't that where you should be?" he asked with curiosity.

"Briefing? No one said anything about a briefing. They'd better not be trying to leave me behind." Brawn spun on his heels and headed back for the door, shouting over his shoulder to Skids. "Watch your noggin' brainiac, or else you'll be pulling trash detail."

Skids raised an optic ridge at Brawn's comments, then shook his head a little and said in a friendly teasing tone, "Even I heard the announcement over the speakers this time, Brawn... my first trash detail duty might have to be cleaning your audio sensors."

He gave a bit of a smirk, glanced to his console to make sure his downloads were still progressing, then dived back into the datapad piles, starting to mutter to himself again. "Where are those Mechatopia notes? I could swear that website had an Area 51 section..."

“See ‘Breaker, everyone has faith in you. You just have to have faith in yourself,” Smokescreen said to his good friend. “You’ve always been there for us, bud, and we’re always be there for you no matter what.”

Trailbreaker listened as his fellow Autobots spoke in an attempt to cheer him up. Their kind words rang through his audio receptors like a calming melody. If he could’ve shed a tear, he probably would have. It was nice knowing that his comrades thought so highly of him. It seemed that it was only Trailbreaker, himself, who had reservations about his abilities. Bumblebee’s right. I do always doubt myself before a mission, but I always end up going anyway and doing okay, ‘Breaker thought, considering what the yellow minibot had just said to him. Perhaps I should go on this one. It seems everyone wants me to.

Wheeljack’s recollection of the battle on Raglan II made Trailbreaker perk up even more. “I remember that battle, Wheeljack. Dreadwind and Darkwing tried their best to bombard our position, but my force shield was able to provide us with enough cover for you to get that repulsor field in place. I really didn’t think my shield would hold, considering I had already spent most of my power. But you were confident that it would and, thankfully, it did. We barely made it out of there.”

Even the newcomer, Aftershot, had something nice to say and he didn't even know the defensive strategist all that well. “Thanks, guys. You’ve really lifted my spark up and made me realize that even though I may not be the fastest or the most fuel efficient, I can still contribute in my own way,” Trailbreaker responded, a smile forming across his faceplate. “I think I will go on the upcoming mission, just so long as you guys don’t mind having to tow me back to base when I run out of energon. Ha! Ha!”

“Yeah, well, just as long as I don’t have to be the one to tow your rusty aft,” Smokescreen joked as the two mechs began to laugh.
