Auto Assembly 2011 and Auto Assembly 2012 Major Updates

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

I think that the prices for the Marlboor kits themselves are pretty good - £15 for a brand new head mould is fairly good as these do cost money to develop and design and the higher costs with new stickers right up to the £35 pack with a toy are pretty good value.

Looking at the Non-Attendee Pack separately, you have to remember that you are getting a magazine signed by 16 guests, many of whom are not likely to appear at any convention outside of the UK in the near future (including the ENTIRE team responsible for Regeneration One) and three voice actors, a full colour magazine, a full colour comic, a massive litho with exclusive artwork from Marvel G1 artist Jeff Anderson plus more...

And all of this is inclusive of shipping. The shipping and packing cost alone to us is going to be around £17 per pack because of the double mailing to protect the litho, possibly more if we add more items to the pack and shipping on the Marlboor kits (which are being supplied by Calloway Customs) is FREE regardless of how many you order.

As Sid said, you could also get together with a few friends and order the maximum allowance of three kits if you're not interested in the rest of the pack reducing the equivalent individual cost but also, even though you're not actually attending the convention, because we are releasing the footage on Youtube, you'll still be able to actively follow the workshop at no extra cost.

The kits themselves are fairly reasonable, I just don't have any interest in the rest of the package required to order the kit...in essence making it a £75 purchase, or about $116. That's just too much for a head and some stickers...for me, anyhow.

But it was cool of you guys to offer it to those of us that can't attend. And it's a great looking figure. Well done.

OOk. I accidentally ordered two attendee packages instead of two heads. I hope they can help sort it out. That's what I get for ordering in a frantic rush to ensure I get the exclusive. #-o #-o

Our pleasure to help! I will try to answer emails and sort problems out as quickly as I can but the response to the Marlboor kit has been phenomenal so far and it is selling out fast. We have had to re-arrange our allocations slightly so we have been able to offer more of the Silver Kits to our Non-Attendees to meet demand as they had almost sold out this afternoon (our attendees are going for the Gold Kit in preference to the Silver one) but there is a chance that we may not have any left at all apart from the Basic Head by this time next week at the rate they are selling!

Thanks again everyone for all your support! :)

^ Yeah, big props to Simon and the rest of the AA team. I've known him for the best part of 10 years now and he always works his ass off to make AA a great event. It's a shame that the AA forums kind of dried up, the forum meet ups were always a lot of fun.

Just to give you all an update... the Gold Kits have almost sold out now, and stocks of the Silver Kit are running very low. If you haven't already ordered one, we expect these to have sold out by this weekend.

Don't forget that you can order a Silver or Bronze Kit with up to two additional Basic Head kits so if you have any friends who want the unpainted heads then it's worth joining up to get a group order together.

MARLBOOR UPDATE:

Okay, we actually just sold out of the original consignment of Gold packages, so I've sourced some more Wheeljacks and stickers and we've moved some heads from the bronze allocation to provide more gold and silver sets,as they seem to be the popular items and we're very close to selling out Silver too.

New package break down:

Gold Packages: 35
Silver Packages: 45
Bronze Packages: 20

So overall, there will still be the same about of exclusive items available, we're just giving more people the chance to go with the insanely popular Gold package. There are still only 100 exclusive hand painted heads as originally planned, we've just tweaked the allocation to meet demand.

Be warned though, even with the change up, we only have 5 more Gold packages left.

Got my gold package paid for this morning. Once I've got the kit in hand I'll be working on a printable transfer set with the various sponsor logos from the original car that the deco was based on, with a couple of options regarding certain spellings. I'll be sure to put a link to wherever I end up hosting the file here once it's ready to go so that anyone else who wants to add some 'finnishing touches' can do so.

Hey! Yeah, waaaaghlord. I'd LOVE to get this. All those super detailed logos and nuances are critical to these race car figures. I really appreciate that work, my friend! Maybe you can chat with us about paying you for a printed set for the handful of peeps in the thread, if you have a good means to print them. (?) Or if not, maybe some recommendations on printer supplies, etc.

I figure everybody should have access to a copy shop locally that will be able to print to transfer sheets and all you should need is the web address for wherever I end up hosting the file. Not sure how comfortable I'd be about accepting any payments, even at cost, for a printed set since I'll be making use of trademarked/copyrighted/registered logos. I've been playing with ideas at work today and figure that it's not really going to be much more work building in a bit of redundancy over what I'm planning to use on mine so that the sheet will have some inbuilt options and that multiple sets should fit to an A4 print (need to ask at my local copyist to see if this is the standard size for transfers or not) so I should be able to put multiple sets to a sheet and it won't matter is the odd decal gets messed up on application since there'll be spares. I'll do the research on what needs including and source the images before the con so that I can get straight to resizing everything and doing a non transfer test print once I've got the kit in hand.

Auto Assembly 2012 Weekly Update - Seven Weeks To Go!

As Auto Assembly 2012 draws closer, it's time for us to start bringing you a series of weekly updates on the convention to give you all the latest news and developments and to re-cap some of the events that have taken place this week as we build up towards Europe's Largest Transformers Convention which is taking place over the weekend of 3rd - 5th August in Bimingham, England...

Seven Weeks To Go

The convention is drawing closer and is only seven weeks away. Tickets are selling at a record rate and while we have said this repeatedly over the last couple of months, we are well on track for a record year. Bookings are almost 60% up on this point last year and we know that there are a lot of you still leaving it until the last minute before getting your tickets. Please don't leave it too late as we don't want any of you to miss out on this year's convention!

For those of you who have never been to Auto Assembly before but are worried about the cost, Auto Assembly is a lot more affordable than you might think. Once you have paid for the ticket itself, apart from your food, drink, travel and hotel bill there is nothing more to pay apart from anything you want to buy from the dealers. All our workshops are included in the price, the tickets get you access to the entire convention and there is no charge for autographs from our guests and you also get the convention magazine, litho, comic and more gifts free so you won't go home empty handed!

With rooms at the Hilton only costing £50 a night for a single inclusive of breakfast (or £60 for a twin/double) it's a lot more affordable than you might think, no matter where you are travelling from!

Kitbash Workshop Convention Exclusive

You can't have failed to see the attention that we have received over the last week for our convention exclusive Marlboor head kit for Generations Wheeljack that has been produced for us by Calloway Customs to accompany this year's Kitbash Workshop. These have been selling at an incredible rate and they are now close to being a total sell out!

They are only available to Auto Assembly attendees and those of you who have ordered our Non-Attendee Pack (for those of you who can't make it to the convention) and we have four types of packs available. The Gold Kits contain a painted head, sticker set and Generations Wheeljack toy; the Silver Kit contains the painted head and sticker set; the Bronze kit contains the painted head and the Basic kit is for an unpainted head.

The Gold kit (which is only available for physical attendees) is down to the last few copies, we now have less than 20 Silver kits left and approximately 15 Bronze kits. Unpainted heads are not as limited but you need to hurry to avoid disappointment. Remember that orders are limited to one kit per person plus a maximum of two Basic head sets.

Competitions

Next week we'll be bringing you all the details about the competitions we'll be running at Auto Assembly 2012 and how you can enter them... our Kitbash Competition, Writing and Art Competitions and - one of the highlights of the convention for the last few years - our Cosplay Competition, which is being sponsored this year by Big D's Toy Chest.

Non-Attendee Pack

Not able to make it to the convention this year? If you still want to be a part of Auto Assembly 2012 don't forget that you can get our Non-Attendee Pack which contains all of the great stuff from our goodie bag including autographs from our guests, our exclusive A2 litho print and lots more besides. You can order this from the website now!

Sponsorship / Advertising

We're still looking for companies who may be interested in sponsoring us or advertising with us here at Auto Assembly. We have some fantastic opportunities to suit ALL budgets ranging from adverts on our website, sponsorship of our display banners that we have had produced right up to guest sponsorship or advertising on / sponsorship of our convention comic or convention exclusive litho. These are fantastic opportunities to reach out to a wide range of Transformers fans so get in touch if you are interested!

Auto Assembly 2012 Prize Draw

We are working on details for a VERY special prize draw that will be taking place at Auto Assembly 2012 during the Closing Ceremony on Sunday afternoon. To be eligible to enter, you need to be 18 or over, have a full dealer, adult, or elderly weekend pass for the convention and be present at the draw (or have a Non-Attendee Pass). The prize? We'll be announcing this next week, but it's a prize worth almost £300!

Auto Assembly 2013

Yes, we're working hard on Auto Assembly 2013 as well and we are hoping to be able to announce the date VERY SOON! We are in talks with several guests at the moment and once we have the date finalised we'll be announce the ticket prices and opening bookings and - as always - we'll make our first guest of honour announcement at Auto Assembly 2012!

Not one I'll use myself but I'll certainly be happy to include it. You've just volunteered yourself to design the logo though I'm afraid mate. Anything in the same dimensions as a certain tobacco company logo that I can resize as needed should fit the bill. Thinking about it I'm not sure that anybody would really pick that option over the original car or toy designs but it could be a handy decal to have for various projects...

No prob, I'll do it.
Will you include the original stickers in this sheet as well? I would rather have transfer decals than stickers.

That hadn't actually occurred to me. Again I'll have to have a word with the local copy shop to see if they can do a high enough resolution scan. I'm not sure how happy the AA or Calloway guys will be with reproducing, even in a different format, part of the exclusive package though. What I had in mind was really more along the lines of an add on rather than a replacement for the stickers. Also transfers will make paint removal essential while the sticker set will probably remove or lessen the need for that stage.

I wouldn't mind removing paint from all the car parts, I just really, really hate stickers.
But yea, I believe it would be pretty sh*tty to do it, Oh I'll just scan in my own and have it printed as a transfer.

I take it that the clear blue wings are there just for show and are not included in any of the packs. None of the decriptions mention them.

They're not supposed to be clear blue.
That pic just shows you what the final toy is supposed to look like with the head, all the stickers, and paint apps. It's a kitbash class toy after all.

I'm getting really creative due to this now, I think I'll start stripping all the paint from my future Marlboro soon and start applying the primer for the to be painted and de-called spots.

Oh man, I'm currently also looking up how to work transfer sheets and might do some testing soon, especially checking which copy shop around me has the best quality transfersheets.

With regards to reproducing the sticker set, this is my stance:

I can't stop you either way, so if you're not profiteering and manage to offer a decent service to the fandom in the process you won't hear me complaining. Best of luck to you.
I think for the negligible price of the sticker set in the pack, most people will be happy to go with that.

Of course, if someone reproduced the head I wouldn't be happy, and I would meet them eventually. This is something I was discussing with Maz the other day and it is always a worry with a hobby as monetised as this one. At the end of the day, the more people who support the add-on kit are supporting future efforts for bigger and better exclusives in the future, and that's something I believe the fans will get behind.

Hotel booked, con and exclusive paid for, transport arranged. Barring spending money I think I'm good to go.

@Banjo-tron, make sure to swap phone numbers ahead of the weekend and pop over for a few cold beverages with the Seibertronian crew on the Saturday.
