The little ‘Bot kept his optics trained ahead as he called back to the officer that had been keeping in step with him throughout their trek. “It may very well be a waste of time, but I still need to be sure, Prowl.” Bee stepped carefully over and around so as not to disturb the bones of the deceased humans. Another few meters and the scout wobbled slightly but quickly steadied his balance. The last thing he needed was to take a header.

The sound of the tactician’s voice caught Bumblebee’s attention causing him to twist at the waist and stare at the now flickering avatar. Great, he thought. He gave the faux human a quick nod and then turned back to focus his full attention on his current path. “Okay. Understood.”

Bumblebee pressed on until he noticed, through several long range scans, that the shaft he was currently in came to an abrupt end. It was strange. Nothing solid registered, the path just simply vanished. “Huh.” He interjected. “Sir. The pathway stops.” He inched a bit further to see if his scanners needed to be closer to get a better reading, but their results came back the same…no path.

“I’m gonna check it out. Might be a glitch in my scanners.” He took off at a much quicker pace leaving the human officer alone before an objection could be given. There had to be something in this mine. “No way did I come all this way to be trapped and not find something.” He mumbled.

900 meters later and Bumblebee came to a quick halt. He placed the hand of his undamaged arm up against the rocky wall and slowly leaned forward. His scanners were right. There was no obstruction and certainly no pathway….there wasn’t anything but a huge drop-off into…a chamber. “Wow.” He breathed.

Bee looked over his shoulder to where he had left Prowl and hollered down the shaft. “Prowl! You’re not gonna believe this, but I think I just found the site of the new Autobot base!”

The look on the faux face of Prowl’s avatar did not change as Bumblebee pressed further down the dark tunnel. It remained as stoic as the military strategist’s own faceplate often appeared. In fact, it seldom looked any different even if he had a reason to be happy. Sometimes the black and white would offer a smile in order to make others feel better, but it was only for their benefit and not how he actually felt. Only when the yellow scout jogged ahead without waiting for a response from him did the fake human’s visage change into an even deeper frown.

Bumblebee, wait! I doubt your scanners are malfunctioning,” Prowl’s avatar yelled after him, taking several steps forward in a hopeless attempt to follow the minibot who seemed intent on agitating the strategist at every turn. After a few more feet, the flickering holomatter police officer disappeared completely before reappearing again several yards back near the breach where the signal from Prowl, himself, was still strong enough. “Dammit! He better not fall into another fraggin’ hole!” The black and white muttered to himself low enough so that his vocals wouldn’t carry.

It was a few minutes before he finally heard from Bumblebee again. Apparently, the small mech had discovered a place that he felt would be perfect for the new Autobot base. You're right, I don't believe it, Prowl thought as his avatar chuckled, shaking his head slightly in disbelief. It was likely a large chamber of some kind, but would it be large enough to fit the Ark-22 comfortably inside not to mention the extended city that Magnus had planned? It was way too early to tell at this point and Prowl couldn’t even send his avatar down to take a look at the site for himself. That meant he had to rely strictly on what the minibot was telling him, which was hardly the analysis he needed.

“Really?!” Prowl’s avatar shouted back, his voice echoing down the tunnel. “Well, if that’s the case then take as many detailed scans of whatever cavern you’ve found as you can, ‘Bee! I want exact dimensions, size, shape and how far down it is from the surface! Just be careful and don’t fall in! I can’t reach you if that happens. Once you’re done, return to the breach ASAP. We need to get back topside and alert the others that we’re okay. Am I clear?”

Freeway took the artefact realising that he would have to hold onto for a little while longer. He slotted it into a shielded compartment so he could have free use of his hands again. Trouble was approaching in the form of a group of humans, well there were over seven billion of them on this planet so it was only going to be a matter of time before they encountered some of the fleshbags, “Then lets move back out of here in the opposite direction. We can use the trees as cover so long as we move quietly and slowly we should remain undetected,” Freeway was used to infiltration and staying out of sight from the vastly more sophisticated detection systems of the Decepticons that avoiding the pesky humans should be not be very difficult. Though Nova Strike was clearly big, Freeway knew that rangers were also good at avoiding detection.

The Throttlebot began to slip back into the forest. Light was fading and human's main sensory perception was daytime vision so hopefully they wouldn't see anything beyond a few strange muddy tracks if they were to investigate, “I'm sure Prowl and Bumblebee can handle themselves but if we have to get to them then we can circumnavigate the humans in the area and get to their position but its going to be a bit of trek to do and the use of our vehicle modes isn't a good idea, the engine noise will give our position away to the humans,”

Unfortunately none of the terrain was designed for giant robots to move about with easy. Unlike Cybertron which had ample room, this jungle was quite cramped even for a smaller chassised mech like the Throttlebots, plus the progress of the two Autobots was also spooking the local wildlife. The non-sentient creatures were flapping or slithering or running away, “Such abundance of organic life here, no wonder this planet is so full of sticky residue,” Freeway was monitoring the communications of the humans still and at least there was no mention of anything that could have been a Transformer.

Rewind shifted in the seat a little as he finished mapping out the more remote areas of the valley. He projected it in front of him to study it for a moment, making sure the 3-dimensional display was accurate. The tiny archivist perked up at the mention of humans in the vicinity. Didn't Prowl say something about...keeping up out of sight if the humans came poking around? Rewind straightened in the pilot seat, peering down at the ground to try to catch a glimpse of them, opening a comm link between the Autobots on the ground and in the sky.

>>"Those look like Humvees - their official name being the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle or HMMWV for short - that the human American military uses primarily. Other countries utilize them as well though, which might explain why they're here. Maybe they're scouting out a new location for a base. Kind of the same thing we're doing here."<<

"Map's done, by the way, Silverbolt," Rewind added, "But didn't Prowl say something about staying out of sight if humans came around?"

Silverbolt stayed high enough to be out of any weapons range as he allowed rewind to get a good view of the humans that where encroaching on their exploration zone. The huge b-1 lancer banked and headed up into the cloud cover for a short distance before heading back towards the survey area.

“It’s better we go and scout the enemy rather than risk the ground pounders”

Silverbolt knew he would get an audio receptor full from Prowl about this but it was better than getting Freeway or Nova strike identified and masses of humans swamping the area. “we’ll finish off this sweep then land and find Prowl he’ll want to know about this in person Rewind

With his jaw slightly ajar Bumblebee took in the entire open area he was now looking over. It was huge. Possibly big enough to house the Ark – 22 and a Metrotitan! Well, maybe. His attention was brought back to the here and now when he heard Prowl’s voice yell out to him. The minibot let out an exasperated sigh before he looked over his shoulder and called back. “Got it! I think this place will be perfect!”

Bee nodded to himself as he looked back over the vast void before him. “Okay! I’m taking detailed scans now. Give me a few minutes and I’ll be done.” He shifted slightly to take a deep sweeping scan of the floor that he couldn’t see. “Prowl! I’m getting readings indicating another energy source! I can’t tell the exact location but I can determine the general direction!” He called. Bee made another careful sweep. “We can have some scouts check around for the source once we report back to Magnus!”

The yellow mech took the last of his readings and stored them on his internal hard drive for safe keeping. He took one final look around the cavern before calling back to Prowl. “Hey! Do you think you’ll have enough energy to use your avatar to lift me out of this pit?! Your tow cable was a bust!”

Valley Pass Road: Forgotten Routes

The convoy slowed through a rough and ruined crag that was once a wide laned foot path, now relegated to nothing more than rubble of crumbling stone leading off to a sheer drop into the ice cold glacial river below. A burst of static crossed the interior of the lead vehicle as it's bright headlamps burned the darkened starless skies. A low murmur interrupted the muted moan of the rotten stone piles as the heavy vehicle slowly turned the bend leading towards the timber bridge that crossed the gorge leading into the lake valley below.

"Beautiful isn't it Ani?" A woman's voice broke the droan of the radio reports as the vehicles of the convoy checked in. It helped to take the burden and pressure of commanding such an operation, especially one of this magnitude all while keeping it off of the books and under the proverbial radar. "Ani..."

Anikara Mendoza, age 45 with graying highlights around the ears and brow caused by the stresses of his primary occupation in the Peruvian Government. Minister of Peruvian Antiquities, an honorary title given the history of their nation all those centuries ago when the Spaniards came and destroyed all that had once been. Sure there was the occassional dispatch to some arid landscape to investigate a new mound or temple ruin. Once he even managed to confirm that a pot once believed to belong to the former Incan Emperor Kuzco was indeed his pot. Had his name on it and everything. Over all the job he had been assigned was far from rewarding on the scholarly level. But there were still plenty of reasons for him to retain his position, beyond perserving what little of their past remained.

"Ani!" The female's voice was punctuated by a gentle elbow jab to the midsection. "Come on Ani. Its not like you have anything to do while on the road."

Anikara loosed a smile as he depressed the toggle on the radio microphone, once he confirmed he had received all of the fuel reports. He placed the microphone back onto the dashboard and leaned back into his leather chair. "Alright Mia. You have my undivided attention."

Mia, a woman who embodied the phrase regarding books and covers. She folded her arms over her chest and gave a mocking humph. "Oh sure, I guess I get to take back seat to a few liters of petrol."

"No no my dear." Anikara placed a reasuring hand on the passenger's right panted thigh. "I am simply ensuring that our little, expedition, is free of complications. I am sure you realize how such an investment such as this can... no, will pay back in dividends."

Mia brushed her employer's hand clear as she pulled a long stemmed cigarette from her midnight blue purse. Once she had the narcotic situated properly, she waited for him to strike a match. A few puffs later and she allowed the ressuring smoke of tobacco and locally grown additives to circulate through the segregated section of the Humvee. "I am aware of how this will pay out. Finding these mines was a coup in itself, and having those fool locals actually bring in those samples to confirm the existance of gold..."

"Was sheer brilliance in itself." Anikara accepted the cigarette and took a draw himself. He exhaled the white gray smoke through his curled tounge to force a ring to form in the darkness. "Now that the mines have been secured. All we have to do is investigate and claim all that is within."

Anikara handed the enhanced tobacco back to his personal assistant and pressed the internal comm to the two men dressed in para military uniforms. "How much longer before we reach the Mines?"

Static answered briefly before it too being replaced by the passenger who carried a loaded AK-47 cradled in his lap. "Another 30 minutes senior Mendoza. We are taking the route through the outskirts of the woods. Shortest road but most deteriorated too. We must take slow or risk damage or worse."

"I don't care about the 'or worse' scenario Private. Just get me to my gold."

Prowl’s avatar waited patiently as Bumblebee commenced with his scans further down the dark tunnel. The military strategist couldn’t wait to get back into his own, Cybertronian body again. His consciousness had spent so much time inside of a holomatter human construct that the black and white almost forgot that he was actually a giant, transforming robot. It had become almost torturous for him, but not so much so that he couldn’t hang in there a little while longer. After all, if the minibot really had found a large enough cavern to house the Ark-22 then suffering as a human, even an over-sized fake one, would be more than worth it.

Prowl was jarred from his internal thoughts by the yellow scout’s proclamation that he had discovered another energy source. The exact location and direction were still uncertain, but it was nothing they couldn’t ascertain at a later date. “Understood, Bumblebee,” the strategist yelled down the tunnel. “Now get your aft back to the breech ASAP! We’re getting out of this tomb and rendezvousing with the others!” The fake police officer then turned and headed towards the breech, stopping at the gapping hole only briefly to glance back down and see if the minibot was in sight yet. “And yes, ‘Bee, I have plenty of energy left. I should have no problem hoisting you up to the end of the grappling hook so you can grab on to it. It’s still hanging there. My alt mode will then pull you up the rest of the way!”

The faux human returned his attention to the breech and quickly stepped back through it. Taking a stance directly underneath the dangling hook, Prowl’s avatar grew in size once again, making him a little taller than the yellow scout. The policeman now had plenty of height to help the minibot reach the tow cable. Without further delay, the officer leaned forward slightly and put both hands together where ‘Bee could now place his foot so Prowl could boost him up. “Let’s go, Bumblebee! We don’t have all cycle!”

The trek over the small frigid creek was a touch more difficult than Nova Strike had initially antisipated. The vegetation had left the bank almost unseen, and only by the virtue of his powerful sensors was he able to avoid taking a false step and falling into the small chasim that dropped a decent five meters into the unstable mud. Below it burbled and bubbled over polished rocks and ruins of ancient Incan staturary, tree branches created pools of near freezing water before pouring its excess into the next level. Thick braces of undergrowth hedged the bank the two Autobots were currently occupying. The frauns and brush hemmed to the rock face of a smaller rampart of rock that framed the thin fall of flowing water from on high.

Nova Strike held his palm back and pushed Freeway back from the edge. He crouched down as the low hum of combustion engines began to approach from the top of the falls. Not wasting a moment on explaining, Nova Strike glanced upwards and readjusted his optical sensors to begin picking up the trace movements of dust particles and the lights that glinted off them. He readjusted his sensors and looked back to the smaller throttlebot. "They are on the road above." It was an obvious observation, but he doubted the underwhelming comedian would expend the energon on processing that piece of data.

It was apparent they were ahead of the convoy, figuring that the convoy would have to cross that particular fall at least two more times before reaching their level of elevation. Strike doubted they had enough off road capabilities with their selected types of vehicles, so he did not have to worry about them taking the sheer wall straight down to the shoreline. Nova Strike pointed down water towards the lake. "You take that path to Prowl and the others. Maybe you can have better luck filling him in, in person than over the air."

Nova waited briefly before turning his attention towards the other side of the creek. "Those humans will be coming down that road in a few minutes, I'll do what I can to stall them from reaching the Mine Entrance." He gave a quick smile of reassurance before he grabbed the fallen truck of a dead tree. He dropped it across the chasim. Placing his foot securely on the middle of the log, Nova swiftly used it as a spring board across the mini canyon, barely registering the snapping of wood and the splash of the fragments into the water below.

The Ranger remained low as he ducked between branches, limbs and gnarled shoots of the trees. He pushed on into the dark, leaving behind the Throttlebot who could decidedly faster cross country. He was in a race against time to reach the road where it released to the lake paths that lead towards the Mines where Prowl and Bumblebee were now missing.

The enormity of the cavern held Bumblebee in awe as his scanners took in the depth, width and height of the space. As his processors worked his optics surveyed the open expanse. To him the area would be the perfect location for their needs. But that decision would ultimately fall upon Ultra Magnus and possibly Prowl.

The thought of the tactician pulled Bee from his musings. His head whipped around when his audios registered the black and white’s voice.

With a slightly annoyed sigh, the scout filed away the scans he had performed and turned from the site before him. “Okay, Prowl! I’m coming back now!” Bee steadied his stance and began to make his way back the way he had come. “Must be claustrophobic or something. Never met a mech in such a huge hurry.” He mumbled.

Before long the yellow ‘Bot was standing with the human avatar. He said nothing as the faux human grew in size and leaned down. Both hands were then placed side by side making a makeshift platform for the smaller ‘Bot to stand on.

“Fine, fine. Let’s go.” Bee said before he grumbled out a low… “Primus. I never knew you were so anxious. Thought you’d find that kind of thing “illogical.”” Bee settled down bracing himself securely so as not to be jarred in the human’s grip. “Anyway. I got some good scans of the cavern. But as I said before, that energy reading and its source is still unknown.” He took on a tighter grip with his uninjured hand and shifted his weight. “I can get a small team to the general area. Just have to get my arm patched up before heading in again.”

"Scrap, they're getting close to Prowl and Bee," Rewind muttered tensely as he observed from above.

The archivist watched from above as the shining black - at least they looked that way from way up in the sky - specks continued to make their way slowly toward the abandoned mine shaft. Someone needed to warn them. Immediately. Rewind was small enough to to get by unnoticed for the most part. He would at least be harder to spot than a full-sized Autobot.

Rewind quickly accessed the Archives and pulled up any data relevant to earthen mining operations. He had done a fair amount of research of downloading to the Archives since their arrival to Earth, enough to give him more than one splitting "headache" as the humans called them. The tiny archivist soon found himself wishing that he'd risked blowing out some of his circuitry if it would help them get out of this situation. Rewind had a rather limited - limited being a relative term - amount of information about human mines. Still, it was something. Rewind examined the information and formulated a secondary escape route for Bumblebee and Prowl if push came to shove. However, it would be no good if they never heard it.

"Silverbolt, find a place to let me down close to the mine! Someone needs to warn Prowl and Bumblebee. I've got a plan. I just need to get inside without the humans noticing," Rewind said urgently, "We don't have much time!"

Prowl’s oversized avatar waited as patiently as he was capable of while Bumblebee finally approached the crouching tactician and placed his foot into the black and white’s waiting hands. “I heard that,” the military strategist replied to the scout’s muttered comment as he adjusted his stance to accommodate the additional weight. It wasn’t much weight, of course, as his tiny companion was only a minibot by design and would be relatively easy to lift. “What I find illogical is remaining down here in an unstable environment when you are clearly injured and unable to get out by yourself thus placing me in danger, as well. Not that I'm afraid, mind you, I’m just considering the real possibility that both of us could become trapped and therefore require the others’ assistance, which then places our comrades in unnecessary danger. As it is, they are likely already coming to determine why we having checked in yet. So, we need to get moving.”

The faux police officer then listened as Bumblebee confirmed that he got some decent scans of the large cavern that could very well house the Ark-22 along with the aforementioned unknown energy source. The scout ended his comments with the desire to get patched up and return with a small team to investigate further. “While I agree that this energy source needs to be thoroughly explored, we first need to reinforce these tunnels in order to decrease the risk of a cave-in. Support struts will suffice, but we’ll have to retrieve them from the Ark. Once we determine if this cavern of yours is truly big enough and the energy source is viable, then we can begin excavating the area to allow normal sized Cybertronians to gain easy access to the underground room. For now, however, just hang in there. I’ll have you out of here in an astrosecond.”

With the yellow mech’s foot planted solidly in his hands, Prowl’s avatar hoisted Bumblebee up until he was well within range of the grappling hook. “There, you should be able to reach it now, ‘Bee! Hold on tight!” After waiting for a few moments, the strategist assumed that the minibot had a firm grip on the hook and activated the two cable which would pull the injured scout up towards the Nissan GT-R police car high above. “Once you’re on the ledge don’t remain there for too long, 'Bee. It might not hold your weight and you could end up in this Primus-forsaken hole again!” Not to mention my real body could come crashing down, as well.

Freeway suspected he would have been equally capable of holding up the humans especially with the path they were taking and the road conditions. However it made things easy enough that Nova Strike could hopefully handle it and at least delay the humans from showing up, “There's plenty of options, try blockading the road, they'll attempt to clear and give you more time to delay them further along,” he offered up some advice, he was an old hand at delaying Decepticon convoys and whilst he was not used to the terrain, Freeway doubted the humans would provide many problems.

With the ranger going off further up the river to try and intercept the humans, Freeway was left to head down stream towards the lake and the mine where Prowl and Bumblebee had gotten themselves lost. He still had Silverbolt and Rewind flying above somewhere but hopefully high enough that they were not about to be noticed by anyone. Freeway moved through the jungle and sent a radio message up to Silverbolt and Rewind, <Nova Strike is heading up to try and delay the humans, I'm going down to the mine to see what's happened to our fearless leader and yellow horns. Keep me up to date on how close the humans are,>

Progress to the mine entrance was slower than Freeway would have liked but the trees were more closely packed together and the Throttlebot did not want to leave a trail of broke foliage in his wake that would indicate something big had come through, though he really could not do much about his large robot foot prints in the mud, he would just have to hope that it rained soon to cover the track up.

Silverbolt noted the tiny archivists comments as he made his course correction and headed for the place that he’d taken off from. “I’ve got an idea for getting you on the ground Rewind but you’re not going to like it” Silverbolt went into a nose dive his airframe screaming in protest but this was an emergency. The ground rushed up to embrace Silverbolt like a long lost friend but he had no time to dwell on his fear as he explained his plan to Rewind.

“I’m gonna get into this nose dive cut engines and glide onto the makeshift runway I took off from you get to my bomb bay and jump once I’ve touched down its the quickest way out and you’ll be virtually outside where prowl and bumblebee went in. I’ll head back up and provide eye in the sky” pulling out of the nose dive his engines went silent as the huge wings of Silverbolt swung outward allowing him to glide onto the makeshift dirt runway his entire frame shuddered again as his wheel’s kissed the ground puffs of dirt flew up from the impact as his bomb bay opened “last call everyone out” Silverbolt had to wait for his smaller comrade to evacuate before he could kick power to his engines and get him back into the air ready for CAP operations if required.

“I’ve got an idea for getting you on the ground Rewind but you’re not going to like it”

Rewind felt a chill go down his spinal column. Bracing himself as Silverbolt suddenly dipped into a nose dive, the tiny archivist's optics went wide as he watched the ground rush up to meet them. Fear gripped his spark. It was a few astroseconds before Rewind realized that Silverbolt was speaking to him.

“...glide onto the makeshift runway I took off from you get to my bomb bay and jump once I’ve touched down its the quickest way out and you’ll be virtually outside where prowl and bumblebee went in. I’ll head back up and provide eye in the sky”

"What?! You're kidding, right?!" Rewind pushed himself into action, moving out of the pilot's seat and into the bomb bay as before only this time with a paralyzing fear etched in his every movement. Despite that, the archivist managed to reach the bay doors as Silverbolt's engines cut off and he began to glide over the ground. "He's got to be kidding," Rewind muttered to himself.

Another jarring impact told Rewind that they had made contact with the ground. "He has to be kidding," Rewind muttered again like a mantra to keep his fear at bay. As the bay doors opened, the archivist got a good look at the ground rushing below as a blur. "He is not kidding." Gathering up all of his courage, Rewind made the leap down, transforming as he did so to minimize damage from the deceleration.

The cassettobot hit the ground hard and bounced more than a few times before sliding to a stop. Silverbolt was already several meters away and continued to move away. Scanning the area for any sign of human activity and finding none, Rewind transformed back into his robot form, shaking off the multiplied discomfort of rapid mass conversion and his rough landing.

"That...didn't really feel great." Rewind began to jog in the direction of the mine, running a few systems diagnostics to make sure that nothing had been critically damaged in the fall. His internal readouts came back with mostly positive results. Only minor damage sustains. Nothing that couldn't be buffed out or patched up. The archivist came to the mine shaft entrance and glanced about, still seeing no signs of the approaching humans. He opened a comm link to Silverbolt and patched in Freeway and Nova Strike as well.

>>"I made it, Silverbolt. See what you can do to help Nova Strike delay the humans without giving yourself away. Freeway, I'm at the mine. I don't see you yet. I'm going to go ahead in and warn them. Catch up when you can, ok? If they're in trouble, there's not going to be much I can do to help them. Rewind out!"<<

Cutting the comm link, Rewind whirled and jogged into the darkness of the mine. He slowed his pace as the light from outside began to dwindle and finally disappeared, adjusting his optics to his new darker surroundings.

"Prowl? Bumblebee? Are you there?" Rewind called out tentatively.

((OOC: I hope you don't mind, Smokes, but I had Prowl pull Bee out of that pit. These two poor guys need some time in the sun.))

Peruvian Valley, Andes Mountains – Inside Abandoned Mine

At Prowl’s reply to his muttered statement Bumblebee shied away from the officer’s avatar. This was all he needed from the tactician, a lecture. “My injury didn’t keep me from finding that cavern.” Bee shot the faux human police officer a hard glare. “Although, there is a chance we could still come across some kind of trouble.” He nodded quickly at Prowl’s suggestion of shoring up the cavern. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Bee gripped the avatar’s finger tight with his one good hand and braced himself as he was hoisted up to just below Prowl’s tow line. With the hand steady and Bee properly balanced the little yellow Autobot cautiously reached up, raising slightly on the tips of his pedes, and grabbed for the line. Several times the cable swung out of his hand but through sheer persistence Bumblebee was able to grab hold and secure the line.

A broad, triumphant smile spread onto his face as he looked down at the faux human officer. “I got it, Prowl. Pull me up.” Before he was even able to finish his sentence the tactician began pulling in his line drawing the small mech up with it. Bee let out an unintelligible grumble as he gripped the cable tighter in his good hand. “Yeah, no problem with the “get to the ledge and move out of the way” thing! You don’t have to tell me twice!” …came the quick response to Prowl’s suggestion…which came out more like an order than anything else.

By the time Bee had gotten out what he wanted to say the ledge in question was in sight. Even before he knew he could, Bee reached up and tried to grab a hold if only to get up and out faster. Finally, finally the little minibot was able to take hold of the rocky out cropping and pull himself in. Bee, as quickly and as carefully as he could, climbed out and stood up. He took a quick look behind him before he quickly, but cautiously, made his way to the police car parked near the hole.

“Thanks Prowl. Now let’s get out of here.” Bumblebee gave the hood of the car a light pat but stopped when he heard a low voice. The little ‘Bot looked past the black and white and back down the shaft they had come down. “Did you hear that? It sounded like…like…Rewind?” The yellow mech tried to open up a comm line with the archivist but the mineral deposits and their location was making it difficult to make contact. Bee finally gave up and began to make his way back out to the mine’s entrance. If Rewind was here then something must’ve happened. “I hope everything’s okay.”

Peruvian Valley - Lake Shore Roads

Anikara pulled another exhausting drag upon the expiring cigarette. He held his breath and allowed the nicotine and tobacco to rush through the lower confines of his lungs before again expelling them in a slow yet controlled release. The flickering ruby ember at the end of the ashen rod of expended plant fibers grew brightly one final time before they themselves died and tumbled into a slightly rusted tray embedded in the back of the Humvee.

"We are almost at the final ford Minister. It should not be much longer now."

Ani snuffed the dead filter into the tray before he tugged at the restraint that held him in place. A flick of his finger pulled the exhausted butt along the bottom of the tray, leaving a blackened trail of ash and burnt tobacco in a swirled line. Perhaps a nervous habit, Ani was never truly sure why he did that same shape every time he put out one of his cigarettes. "Good," he spoke as his eyes were drawn to the dark cliff face that was currently dominating his side of the vehicle. A few broken statues, barely visible by the lamps of the following archaic troop carriers.

A muted yawn broke the near silence of the trip as the cliff gave way to a more expansive wooded road. Mai patted her near emerald lips with her left hand before carefully returning patiently to her lap. She peered forward with a quiet smile as if her own fatigue had not become apparent. "I would concur. I do not mind these long romantic excursions, but I do prefer the more private and less business variety."

Anikara smiled briefly as he reached down to pick up a small briefcase. "I am sure that once our business here is concluded and our investments are secured, we will be able to indulge your preferences my dear." He flicked the locks on the case and pushed the lid open slowly. A small battery light activated from the lid's interior illuminating the various signed contracts, maps and geological reports. One piece of worn paper, a document that had been in the archives for nearly a generation, was pulled from the bottom of the case. Historical Survey of Valley 172, North Western Andes Mountain Range, was its title.

"It is said that this valley is among the final cursed realms from the ancient days of empire." Mai spoke calmly as she adjusted her skirt to cover her knees that had been exposed briefly during a recent bout of turbulence.

The paper wilted briefly before Anikara laid it down on the top of his collection of documents. "I am sure they say that about all of the lakes and valleys within the old empire. Anything to protect the ores from the Spaniards or rival clans." He paused, "Do not tell me you believe in those old wives tales Mai? I had thought a woman of your background would beyond such fairytales."

For her part Mai conveyed little annoyance. She simply closed her eyes and shook her head briefly from side to side. A moment past as she slowly turned to face her employer. "The lake that lies within the heart of this valley, it is known as Aldo Pissarro's Tomb. All those who drink from its waters, disturb its placid mirrored surface or sail upon its cold expanse are said to summon the spirits of the ancestors. And upon their witness those who have violated the creed of the valley are dragged to the land of the hinterland, never to walk amongst the living again." She offered a smile, one that a story teller may offer to soften the blow of a terrifying story. "Of course it is just a story, one found upon hieroglyphics and recorded by Pissarro's expeditions. But even still Ani, it does no good to forget that even this placid land was stained by blood."

Anikara drew his finger along the middle passage of the survey. "Of course," He paused briefly as he considered his next words. It would not due to anger a woman who was capable of...

He could not complete his next thought as he found himself plunging forward as the Humvee driver slammed on the brakes. A sharp pain and lingering throb soon erupted from his forehead driving into the worn edge of the briefcase. "What the hell?"

The driver narrowly managed to slam on the breaks as the headlamps caught the first movement of a large shadow above the road. The abrupt stop caught the entire convoy off guard. A squeal of tires echoed through the valley, and the brief thump of bending metal as two trucks collided in the dark. The stop, however, prevented a greater deal of damage. For the snapping of wood and limbs swiftly drowned out the sounds of the confusion. A roadblock now impeded their route forward.

"All those who enter this valley will be opposed, for this valley will resist." Mai whispered to herself as she pulled a strand of hair that had been dislodge from her bangs. She tucked it behind her ear as she reached forward and tapped the driver. "What happened?"

"A tree fell ma'am." The driver called back a reached for the door leaver.

Anikara rubbed his temple, hoping a lump would not form. He set a newly closed briefcase down on the floor and leaned back. "That's all well and good Lieutenant. Can we go around it?"

"No sir, we'll have to clear the road. Should take about thirty minutes, depending on how big the obstruction is..."

Mai decided to tune out the discussion between her employer and the military driver and turned to look out into the ink. The ground was rent from where the roots had once held the mighty piece of timber anchored to the ground. Bushes were collapsed and dislodged, but the grounds were still. Her mind began to ponder the possibilities of how such an event could happen. She blinked once as a coil of dust was kicked up by the final truck pulling to a halt behind the others. The lamps turning the particles into a fine cloud and ether. And in the distance, a...

"Mai," Anikara's voice pierced her thoughts causing her to lose track of what she had seen. "Are you alright?"

"I am." She lied effortlessly. Physically she was healthy and unscathed. But she was confused. Maybe she hit her head harder than she thought against the back head rest of the driver. But could she have seen a defender of the cursed valley?

Silverbolt’s engines droned as they pushed him back into the black void of the Nightsky his afterburners used only to get him of the ground as to not draw massive amounts of attention to him. As the B1 lancer swung over in a lazy backward curve midway through he rolled over so he wasn’t upside down to the ground. His sensors already scanning the ground around where Novastrike was concealed the Aerialbot commander started thinking to himself “it’s cloudy wonder if I could make some lightening strikes?”

Opening a link to Novastrike, Silverbolt sent a message to the ground pounder “Hey Novastrike do you think that we could create a lightning strike on some trees nearby these Oomans? My electrostatic rifle could probably mimic the weather phenomenon, maybe a marker light signal on them should enable a precise strike what do you think? Do able or not?” Silverbolt wasn’t sure if he’d got the pronunciation of the word human correct but he was more concerned with keeping his fellow autobot out of the lime light.

He headed up higher towards the cloud line wondered if the smaller rewind had sustained much damage from his rapid exit. He made a mental note to apologise to the diminutive archivist when they next spoke.

As Bumblebee was hoisted up out of the hole he had fallen into a few cycles ago, the faux police officer disappeared from sight, allowing Prowl’s consciousness to re-enter his Nissan GT-R alt mode. It felt good to finally be back inside his real Cybertronian body after spending so much time in a holomatter representation of a human cop. Even with the mass shifting it was not the same as being within his true form of a giant transforming robot. The military strategist had nothing against the indigenous population of the planet Earth per say. He just didn’t want to be one of them. The black and white was quite happy with his own existence as it was even if no one else was pleased with him.

The first thing Prowl felt once he was back where he belonged was the yellow scout patting him on the hood of his police car mode. What am I, a turbofox? the analyst thought as the sound Bumblebee subsequently mentioned then registered in Prowl’s own audio receptors. “Yes, I think you’re right, ‘Bee. That was Rewind. He’s probably just come to check on us since we haven’t contacted the others for a while. Before coming in here after you, I had given them specific instructions to come find us if they didn’t hear from us after a few cycles. I’m sure everything is okay, but we should get going just the same.”

Wasting no further time, Prowl cautiously did a slow K-turn within the tight confines of the tunnel in order to face forward and avoid having to back all of the way out of the mine. Once he was completely turned around, the the GT-R drove forward, being careful not to hit or run over Bumblebee in the process. As they progressed further and further towards the surface, the sound of Rewind’s vocals grew louder and louder until finally a tiny metallic glimmer was caught within the police car’s headlights, appearing from around an upcoming bend. As expected, it was Rewind, his diminutive form easily able to traverse the cramped and narrow passageways.

Rewind, I’m glad you found us,” Prowl spoke, dimming his headlamps as he approached and stopped in front of the archivist. “As you can see, I was able to locate Bumblebee, but he has sustained a shoulder injury in a fall and requires medical attention. Before pulling him out, however, ‘Bee found what appears to be a large enough cavern that could house the entirety of the Ark-22 as well as any extensions we deem fit to add on to establish a more permanent Autobot City. However, we’ll have to reinforce these tunnels and send in a full scouting team to ascertain the validity of Bumblebee’s findings. But, first thing’s first. Give ‘Bee whatever assistance he needs and let’s get out of here. The sooner we rejoin the others the better. I assume they are waiting for us outside the mine entrance?”

Rewind was about to give up hope of ever finding Bumblebee and Prowl in time to warn them when Rewind saw a faint light as he rounded a bend in the Stygian darkness. Two headlights greeted him as he did so. He spotted the faint metallic glimmer of Bumblebee's form beside him.

The diminutive Autobot sighed with relief and jogged forward to meet the pair. When he saw the state Bumblebee was in, Rewind looked at the yellow scout with dismay even as Prowl explained what had occurred. Although the injury itself warranted concern from Rewind, the more pressing matter was getting Bee away from here and out of sight immediately.

"Ah, not exactly, Prowl," Rewind said, "We have a situation. There are humans headed this way, a small caravan, two vehicles. I don't know why they're here, but if they're looking to stay, we're going to need to drive them away somehow. Nova Strike and Silverbolt are running interference. Freeway's on his way here to assist."

The tiny archivist finished giving his report and trotted over to Bumblebee's side, following Prowl's instructions to assist the minibot however he could. "Hey 'Bee. Can you transform? How can I help?"

“Humans, huh?” Prowl replied as Rewind finished his report and moved over to assist Bumblebee. Just when one obstacle had been overcome another one presented itself. However, unlike rescuing the minibot from a deep hole, avoiding the natives could be a bit more challenging depending on whether or not they were just passing through. If their intended destination was the mine, itself, then avoiding the fleshlings was only half of the problem. The other half was how to get rid of them without hurting or killing them. After all, the strategist and his team were Autobots, not Decepticons who wouldn’t think twice about simply terminating the Earthlings and moving on.

“If they’re heading in this direction then it is logical to assume that they are here for the mine and the minerals that still permeate the walls within,” Prowl stated matter-of-factly as he revved his engines slightly. “If they were treasure hunters they would be heading for the ancient ruins at the northern end of the valley. There’s nothing else down here in the southern region except for this abandoned mine. It’s likely that these fleshlings are looking to see if it is still viable or not. If they discover that there are still minerals in here they’ll likely stay for a lengthily period of time, putting us in a precarious situation. Nevertheless, we need to first get out of here before the humans arrive and enter, which would force us back deeper into the tunnels. Now, let’s get moving!”

Wasting no further time, the Nissan GT-R police cruiser drove forward, it’s headlights illuminating the way back to the surface. As Prowl drew closer to the mine entrance, he slowed his pace until he had come to another stop right at the threshold. It had grown dark outside but the tactician dosed his lights anyway in order to avoid being seen by any humans that may already be in the vicinity. Switching his external sensors on high, the black and white swept the immediate region in front of the mine for any signs of carbon-based intruders beyond the usual animal population that inhabited the area. Of course, the local natives would be riding inside of vehicles not too dissimilar from the ones Prowl and his unit transformed into, distinguishing the humans from simple-minded beasts.

“We’re all clear,” Prowl finally called back to Rewind and Bumblebee, who he assumed were close behind him. “Now’s our chance! Let’s head for the forest across the way and seek cover there. Move!” Without waiting for a response from the diminutive duo, the military strategist raced out into the open, making his way to the tree line where he transformed back into robot mode for the first time in a few cycles. It felt good to finally stretch his legs after so long, but he had no time to enjoy the sensation as the humans could appear at any moment.

Stepping into the green foliage, the black and white opened up a comm line to Silverbolt, Nova Strike and Freeway: >>”Team, this is Prowl. Bumblebee and I are okay, although ‘Bee has an injured shoulder that will require medical attention. We are currently with Rewind near the mine entrance. What is the status of the human convoy? How close to the mine are they now?”<<

Peruvian Valley, Andes Mountains - Near Abandoned Mine

It took Freeway a long time to trek over to the mines, he just hoped that Nova Strike was able to delay the Humans long enough so they wouldn't find the Autobots there. The Throttlebot moved to the edge of the jungle in time to see Prowl race out to clearing's edge and transform back into his robot mode, <Coming up on your position now, Prowl. Nova Strike and I split up since we had lost contact with yourselves I was going to try and help find you and yellow-horns. Nova Strike is trying to delay the humans, not too sure what his plan is or if he has a plan but I doubt he's stupid enough to break cover,>

Freeway moved around the edge of the clearing to meet up with the team commander, “You find anything useful in the mine? Other than Bumblebee of course, not that he's much use with his bad arm, hehehe,” Freeway said trying to lighten the mood with some humour, it was never a good thing when someone in a team got injured especially so early on during a mission, so a few jokes might boost morale.

“Seriously though how bad is it? He gonna need to see the doc or will some field treatment be enough?” That would require a medic even coming down to Earth or more likely Bumblebee being transported back up into space for a proper repair. That was the problem with going planet-side, there were few facilities here and if someone got badly injured they would have to wait to be repaired and probably moved back up to the Arc-22 or the Guardian orbiting somewhere above them.

Silverbolt could see from where he was that a tree had fallen in the path of the human convoy he was skimming the edge of the cloud his pale underside camouflaged him against the night clouds. He assumed that was Novastrike’s handy work he reworked his plan for using the electrostatic rifle for a last resort but he kept an eye on the humans from on high. ‘Why where they here hunting for ancient heirlooms? New sources of power much like the autobots?’ his musing on the subject was cut short as he received a message from Prowl.

>>”Team, this is Prowl. Bumblebee and I are okay, although ‘Bee has an injured shoulder that will require medical attention. We are currently with Rewind near the mine entrance. What is the status of the human convoy? How close to the mine are they now?”<<

Looking down from on high Silverbolt got a guesstimate distance on the convoy being so high up distorted his view despite the zoom on his optics.

>>”Silverbolt here, Ooman Convoy stalled by a fallen tree assuming its Novastrike’s work convoy looks to be around 2 miles out best guess from this distance. I’d say they will have to clear the fallen tree to get to you not sure how long it’ll take them to clear it<<

Silverbolt spread his huge wings and soared into the cloud on the thermal rising in a circular pattern back in to the clouds his engines where at the minimum power to keep him aloft to keep the noise down. The Aerialbot commander once again vanished into the misty embrace of the clouds he’d reappear from the clouds to check on the convoy later he couldn’t risk being spotted.

Peruvian Valley - Lake Shore Roads

Nova Strike brushed the palm of his hands together to knock off the last remnant of dust and bark. The thunderous crash of timber sprawling across the narrow mountain road echoed through the valley, carefully masking the thump of his feet pounding into the baked soil as he dashed into a thick over growth. Squeezing himself through the age split trunk of a large broad leafed tree, Nova Strike was able to effectively disappear into the darkness. He reactivated his sensor package and switched to night imagery, fine tuning the entire parcel onto the stalled convoy.

Crouching into the undergrowth, Nova watched as a group of five or six exited the confines of the two lead vehicles. The smaller, more slender figure stopped as soon as it exited the lead escort. Its posture indicated it was not looking at the new obstacle in their path, but indeed looking deep into the forest.

Nova remained still as his communique system activated a visual only feed. A small dimly lit window emerged from the side of his left optic where his targeting screen typically emerged. It flipped over and covered his optic and began relaying a series of text messages from Prowl's group as they reemerged from their exploration of the catacombs below. Not necessarily a scathingly detailed report, such a report wasn't exactly his privy anyways, but it was enough to at least give them some idea of what was next. They discovered a potential location for this new project of Magnus, now all they had to do was protect it from some inquisitive bipeds.

He reached back into the message files, once he finished rereading Prowl's own communique, and brought up the multiple ones from the Aerialbot Commander. Out in the distance the mutterings of commands began to waft through the narrow woods. Nova's optics readjusted and zoomed in as the slender figure stepped down off the road towards the border of the woods near where the roots were torn from the earth. Other bipeds began to clamor into rear of the middle vehicle and extract large rectangular packages. "Saws," he couldn't help but whispering to himself. This was going to be a bit trickier than initially suspected, especially if these creatures were prepared for eventualities such as downed tree.

Nova deactivated his text screen and activated his vocal communications array. "Sorry for the delay Silverbolt. A lightning strike may rattle these things, but it'll raise questions without the precipitation that comes along with it. But if we can add to their already expressed discomfort, perhaps we can turn on their more primitive flight instincts."

The ranger palmed a smoke grenade from the magnetic strip inside his chest compartment. "Sir, if you can bring the rain, I can bring the ambiance with a couple of smoke grenades and perhaps a flash bomb or two."

Silverbolt continued to diligently collate data on the human progress his huge wings spread wide as he got Novastrike’s message and its follow up message. From where his nose wheel was stored a black weapon appeared it had been charging via small static collectors on his wings and hull. A gentle humming came from the weapon as he activated it looping around he started targeting the human convoy ‘three blasts should do it” a small screen in his cockpit show what was going on with his targeting systems. A topographical image of the area was show on the screen Novastrike’s position was marked as was the humans convoy. A targeting cursor selected one of the vehicles a nearby tree and right in front of the fallen tree. Each one was surrounded by a pulsing red box complete with targeting data the electro static rifle was mounted in a small arc turret around 90dgrees but it was enough for his needs.

Novastrike rain in coming in 5 second intervals prepare for impacts possibly danger close” Silverbolt closed the link to the Ranger as his rifle fired a crackle then a tremendous bolt of lightning like energy streaked through the heavens impacting on its first target. He waited 5 seconds the triggered the weapon again then repeated the cycle once more before powering to a new firing position just in case he had to repeat the elemental display.
