When you get right down to it, the 90's was an excellent era for Kaiju movies. Godzilla had a solid string of films in the 90's, culminating in the excellent "Godzilla vs. Destroyah":

Furthermore, Gamera got a really kickin' reboot series with quality that rivals the best of Godzilla's outings:

Also, while Toho "retired" Godzilla for awhile, they let their other most popular Kaiju have a triple outing. Though skewing for a younger audiance, the aptly named "Rebirth of Mothra" trilogy is a fun series that has a decent mythology to it:

Finally, Godzilla was back on the big screen in America, in full CG, though as we know, the results are mixed at best...

I liked that movie, it was fun. I know I'm in the vast minority, but I don't care. And I stopped liking the Japanese Godzilla movies when I was 10.

I don't think Godzilla '98 is the worst thing ever either. However, it doesn't really do anything new with the genre, the CG(while still pretty good) doesn't hold the same impact as it once did because there's so much CG these days, the baby Godzilla's may have been going a little too far, and yeah, Godzilla being taken down by normal missiles is a tad weak.

Had Godzilla fought another monster and been the basic Anti-hero the character is known for, I'm sure Godzilla '98 would have turned out better. Sadly, from my understanding, it was TOHO who wouldn't allow them to use an oringal creation, the shape changing "Griffon", in the film, and demanded that if he was to fight a monster it would be an established one, like Mothra or King Ghidorah. It would have cost more, so they went without.

Aha! Most entertaining video ever. I screamed "YES!" for Transformers, The Smurfs, Dexters Laboratory, and The Addams Family. Heh, I was a 90's toddler, and half of the kids my age don't and wouldn't know any of those shows. I was hoping for Braceface, Jem, or All That.
