Taken from Micheal Bay's web site..

It is a drag talking to reporters on sets. Why? Because often times they take your words and skew things to their liking. Then the crazy, lazy game of reporting on what other writers story’s reported me saying and suddenly it becomes skewed Internet truth. So I waste my time to restate exactly what I did say, again.

No I did not ‘apologize’ for any Transformers movies. I did not say I shot the last three movies “less cool” than the new fourth installment. I was talking specifically about camera style and tone, of the first movie compared to how I shot the new installment with a very big scale, cinematic style. I was very specific in saying the first Transformers was shot in a ‘generic suburbia’ area, not trying to be cool with any cinematic flashes. I wanted it to feel like this could happen in any backyard in the United States.

So that brings me to letting Transformers fans know that we have completed our five and half month shoot. We got back from a month long shoot in China. My crew and I had a fantastic time shooting in Hong Kong and Mainland China. It was an amazing experience, and I love the country. My cast was absolutely fantastic, and a very fun group to work with. We are working hard cutting the movie right now. I think the first piece comes out for the Super Bowl and a teaser right after that.

And yes, I’m very excited about this new movie.

Respect to Micheal Bay for taking the time to correct what was really said. Just goes to show you can't always go on a reporters word.

Don't be absurd. It won't have a dog humping a mailbox. That's not what this movie is about. It'll have a Dinobot humping a Volkswagon.

Regardless of what Bay said or didn't say, I really think AOE will be at least as serious in tone as DOTM. Meaning, there will still be a couple of ass-clown characters like Jerry and Brazos, but overall the other characters will act like normal people...or generic Hollywood action movie characters. It'll also be more "TF'ish" in tone and actually tell a story with the TF's at the center stage instead of just obligatory eye candy as we've seen in ROTF.

Besides, we also have Wahlberg as the new lead actor instead of Shia. While he may be cast as a "wacky inventor", at least we won't be seeing any more neurotic teens running around, screaming, "Nononono-nooooo!!!!"

By this point, I think any TF taking center stange over any of the lead human actors is a pipe dream. This will undoubtedly "The Wahlberg/Peltz/Reynor Movie featuring the Tranformers" just like how the first three were "The Adventures of Sam Witwicky featuring the Transformers". :P

Sam hadn't said "nonono" since that one time in ROTF after he had that freakout in the class room.

LOL! Point taken!

While I'm not stupid enough to expect TF Prime: The Live Action Movie, at least DOTM gave us a story that centers more around the TF's than both of the earlier 2 movies combined. DOTM had Sam trying to get back into what's happening instead of him getting caught in the middle of it. Plot-wise it makes a huge difference as it's now the TF's decisions and actions that move the plot forward instead of Sam's.

Sure, Sam still plays a significant role, but noticeably less than in the previous movies.

All in all, I'm just hoping to see AOE maintain the new status quo set up by DOTM.

You're forgetting the scene in the first movie when OP stepped on the fountain in his garden.

Either way, I don't like how he runs around screaming his head off. It's a matter of personal tastes, period.

And yes, I realize that's how people might act when they're in a panicky situation; I just don't like how he does it on screen. I repeat: a matter of personal tastes.

I meant since the first movie. He said it a lot there, just once in ROTF, and not at all in DOTM. He did, however say, "No, no."

True, though sadly, "Nononono!" was replaced by, "Waaaahhh! Waaaahhhhhh!" when his car got stopped by a metal barrier as he tried to force his way into the Health and Services department. I know he was trying to be funny, and it should have worked, but somehow it just came across as annoying to me.

Well, either way he's not in AoE, and I'm cautiously optimistic that Wahlberg won't end up being Shia 2.0. Curious how his "wacky scientist" character will turn out.

If it's anything like the first three movies, then it will be the Armed Forces as the lead characters, the humans second in line, and the Transformers dead last. One of the things which makes the movies really not that enjoyable is the large amount of military masturbation Bay places in the films. If this was GI Joe - fantastic! But really, I paid to see giant robots fighting and being interesting and most times the movies barely deliver.

Quite frankly, less goofiness equals more military waxing. Yay.

No real way around that, unless Bay decides to stop asking for military cooperation.

In exchange for making the military look good in the movies, the army lent him full logistics support and manpower, as in giving him actual soldiers to use as extras, as well as tanks, etc. The air force allowed him to film actual F-22 Raptors in TF1, as well as an actual AC-130U "Spooky" bomber plane in action during the Scorponok scene.

One other catch was that there's a military guy on set to make sure the military was portrayed accurately and positively.

That scene in ROTF, where they parachuted the government agent out of the plane was almost removed, until the military guys decided it was just too ridiculous to be taken seriously.

It's all in the commentary in the DVD of the first movie, as well as the bonus DVD of the limited edition ROTF set.

Less badly written, modern, Hollywood humor is fine, but it's far more important that Bay focus far more screen time on the Transformer robot characters, instead on the humans.

Transformers need to be the focus, have far more time for character development, interaction, & actual story telling.

I know this could be less Bay's taste & more a money issue, HOWEVER, there are techniques that involve rendering these CG animations in far less time. Less movement, more sitting down and being more still, looking at the back of a robot while he talks.

Bay is too focused on wild, camera crazy, scenes. Less is MORE.

I know because I've actually worked with this medium, [film]. If I wasn't more concerned about privacy, I could give you my name and you could easily look me up, .

A lot of posters here agree that more TFs on screen is what we all want. Some might argue that DOTM was a step in this direction, but I would like to add another dimension to this. More robot screen time is great, for sure. But I also wanted to see some real threat from the Decepticons. Just one example: Soundwave being taken out by Bumblebee. Imagine Prime soundwave fighting BB. I somehow doubt BB could have won, and I definitely doubt BB could have single handedly killed Soundwave. It really defeats the build up of any villain, especially one that we know to be quite strong and essentially one of Megatron's closest soldiers, to be ousted by an autobot scout (unless written to show he really spent the time planning and strategizing an attack). The fight between a wrecker and Soundwave would have been much more palatable.

Anyway, point is this. Make the villains less 'show' and more 'threat', and I don't mean 'taking hostages' threat. I mean, laying a trail of death in their wake threat.
I fear I yet again desire too much from a mainstream movie.

I totally agree. If there's one things that's been somewhat missing from the movies, it's the feeling that the Decepticons are an actual threat to the Autobots and mankind.

Here's my theory.

It partly stems from Bay's deal with the armed forces. Since he has to portray them in a positive light, obviously he can't show them getting killed en masse by Decepticons. And they can't kill off too many Autobots because some are needed for sequels, and it'd be too expensive to create and render entirely new ones.

So, it's the Decepticons who end up getting slaughtered--the bad guys need to die in order to wrap up the movie.

In the end, it makes the Cons look like a bunch of amateurs who always get their ass handed to them by a small team of humans and Autobots. And it's always the bomb raids that get them.

If it's one thing I hate, its the bomb raids and missile strikes. It's literally the Deus ex Machina for every single TF movie thus far.

If the Cons have half a processor-cluster between them, they'd infiltrate each and every one of these human bases in various alt modes like they did in the first movie. And when the time is right, reveal themselves and destroy the bases, leaving the humans with nothing to strike them with.

No, wait, then it would make the military look bad.... :BANG_HEAD:

I agree. The way Megatron, Shockwave and Starscream were handled and killed in the 1st trilogy is just disgraceful. Megatron had his moments, but in the end he was dispatched without much build-up in DoTM. I didn't expect much from him considering his condition, but then Bay dangled a carrot by having Megatron just totally demolish Sentinel after Sentinel pretty much bitch-slapped Optimus. Then Optimus comes back, one-armed, and dispatches Megatron like it was nothing. And Shockwave? If there was a showdown to be had, it should have been Prime vs. Shockwave on that street. Instead what do we get? 1 of the most ruthless and fearsome Decepticons gets disabled by some humans, who, if any of this was real, would have been squashed like bugs in an instant, and then Prime just hits him and rips his eye out and that's it. Ugh. I never cared for Starscream, but once again, getting killed by 2 humans? Please. He should have died at the hands of Ironhide. That was another opportunity for a great showdown that was missed. As for Soundwave, I thought it wasn't as bad as the others, though the fight could have lasted longer. Bumblebee in Bayverse isn't some punk-ass scout, he's actually a pretty good fighter.

All true, particularly regarding Megatron.

Such an undignified way to go for an iconic character. I would have preferred an honorable hand to hand fight between two battle-worn warriors, ending with Megatron purposely letting OP lop his head off, because he has nothing to live for, what with Cybertron destroyed, and his army in tatters. I see Megatron as a complete egoist and narcissist, and he'd probably strive for such an end.

Cybertron was his raison d`etre; without it, he'd have no purpose in life as a patriot. It just feels out of character for him to be begging for a truce...which, honestly, OP wouldn't have possibly agreed to anyway, given his past deeds.

It might be too dramatic for some, but I personally like it that way.

The thing that bothers me about Shockwave is that he has this uber-huge Super Arm Cannon of Doom and it doesn't seem to be nearly as powerful as it looks. Apparently, it just fires these puny rockets that do very little damage. All it did was knock OP back, and he only got taken out of the action temporarily from getting tangled by some wires. And when OP used it to blast the pillar from the cupola, it simply destroyed the cupola, but left the pillar very much intact and undamaged.

I'm facepalming at the fact that I can never come onto these pages and be able to DISCUSS anything like a fan.....why? Because everyone has a short fuse and can't seem to respect an opinion or news that has the smallest percentage of difference from what they think. I love the movies, but I can't come onto a single film thread w/o bitching and more bitching....anddddd more bitching...about a movie like spoiled kid brats. The sad thing is the majority are grown adults. Complain complain complain about how much one doesn't something... then go and see it in theaters anyway when u supposedly know its gonna suck and call Michael Bay an idiot. Now tell me, whos the idiot again?..... :CON:

It's been getting on my nerves for a while too. Every time there's a new post about the movies these guy crawl out from under their bridges to shove their knee-jerk, uninformed, hate filled opinions down our throats. Like you said there's not really a discussion going on, just more of the same **** they've said every day for the last 6 years.

Seriously, no one is stopping you from saying what you like about the movies. I'll go first. Movies = more money for generations figures. This thread has no flaming so far, I don't see the reason for any hostility just because the majority of posters are voicing their opinions that happen not to agree with your own.

At this point everyone should know what to expect from the movies. The time to express your opinion has passed. You didn't like the last 3 thats's fine. You've already said that 6 years ago, and 4 years ago, and 2 years ago. Can you at least wait till the movie comes out before you assault us with more of your tired old complaining? Now every time I come to the movie forum I feel like I'm stuck in a car with a whiny kid. It's a constant barrage of the same complaint over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Everyone has their right to an opinion, but shouldn't we also have the right to not have the same damn bitchfest shoved down our throats every day.

This is basically how I feel. But I just ignore most of it, because I know if I say what I want to say, I'll end up getting myself banned.

I got some good advice from a moderator here once, a mod named Burn. He said if you don't really like reading it, don't. Pretty simple. No one is forcing you to read each post in these threads.

Couple things. First off, we have nothing to judge this movie on but the last 3, so obviously we're going to make assumptions based on that like any normal human being.
Second, we're not even tearing into that bad, i've seen threads WAY worse, so you getting all mad just seems pointless especially when, last point here, you still haven't really shared any of your own opinions about the movie after all this time to add to the "discussion" you say is missing here.

We are discussing the movies, what we didn't like, what we would like to see. What are we supposed to say? OHMYGODOHMYGOD I CAN'T WAIT ITS GONNA BE AMAZING WATCHING A LOVE STORY WITH CGI IN THE BACKGROUND ZOMG MINDBLOWN. >:oP The thread is about no goofiness, many posters are even cracking jokes about dinobots being goofy from the get go, and that riding a dino is goofy (even though I think thats cool). No one is as agro as you haters of "haters".
