Random question, but do the commemorative and encore toys have the same die-cast parts as the 80's guys? I ask because someone gave me what I think is G2 Prime and Starscream, and they seem to be all plastic :(

You've convinced me, Kanrabat. I just got flashbacks of being at the toy department with my late parents, salivating over a G1 OP, and knowing we couldn't afford one back then (it was priced at 90.00 local currency, which was A LOT back in the 80's for us).

If I see one at the hobby store going for a decent price, he's coming home with me.

Glad to see that! At worst, bid on a vintage one on Ebay. With all the times it got reisued, the price should be relatively reasonable and you'll have the "real" one from the mid-1980's.
Good luck finding him! I swear you will never regret it.

As far as I know for Optimus Prime, it have the same ammount of diecast in the same parts. The only difference are the missile launchers are powered down and are now extra long while OP's smokestacks got shortened.

If you dont have him, just get him when he's available. Then, like I said before, order a set of metal long smokestacks from Hong-Kong and start modding!

lol wut???

I'm perfectly happy with my blue windshield new year prime.
But I don't have a Soundwave, only a Soundblaster reissue.
I think I'll get him if he's sold for cheap.
There is the Encore set, and a hasbro reissue a few years ago.

They could've picked better characters. How about... characters that
have not been reissued yet?

Silly me, that's not a very good idea :)

So I am passing on both, but recommending Soundwave on grounds that he doesn't have any modifications that would make him look weird (...)

Just pointing out that not only the USA G1 Soundwave have his missile launcher deactivated (dont change the look but it kinda suck) He have that double-chest cassette compartment to accomodate his two cassettes minions at the same time. It dont really look bad, but it's not the same as the original.

Personally, I kinda like that bigger chest. It make Soundwave look less flat and more beefy. Unfortunately, my Laserbeak dont transform completely flat so him and Ravage cannot go inside at the same time.

Oh well, I'm still glad to have got that reissue in that trade. If I count everything, buying the toy he wanted (KO Battle Tanker), plus paying the shipping so I receive the KO, then, paying the shipping so I can send it to him, it ammounted me at around 64$ total. Not too shabby considering that Soundwave reeisue was going for more than 100$ not just a few weeks ago. The inportant thing is, I'm happy I got my Soundwave and my trade partner is very glad of his KO Battle Tanker. So glad, that I may buy one for myself.

The good and bad thing about these reissue, depending on what side of the fence you are on, is that they will become cheaper on Ebay and such. This will give that change to those who still dont have these molds to buy them at prices that will not make their wallets cry for mercy.

Honestly, every time I hear about the missiles, I think of the story on how the original mail-away Boba Fett was supposed to come with a missile that launches. But safety regulations made Kenner change that, and the only one made with said missile went for a huge chunk of money. And with your trade/acquisition, very nice! :APPLAUSE:

Also, I will not buy my Transformers off eBay on account that I plan to submit all of my pieces to AFA. That, and my collection fall into categories (which excludes both "Variant" and "Commander (Supreme)"), are not based on Hasbro exclusives, and may allow me to explain to others why I decided to overlook my budget prior to obtaining it.

I'll explain that when I can find the time to start a post about my collection. Plus, it is also why I am recommending Soundwave, even though I think Soundblaster might be an equally good choice. ;)

Thanks! That was a risquy trade at first before the guy was completely new. He didn't even have a Paypal account! Still, with our lengty email exange, I had a good feeling that he was serious and we figured out that middle-manning trade was the best way to go.

As for the AFA thing, I'm sorry to say but I find this completely ridiculous. Not only you are not going to enjoy these toys, you are sealing them away forever! Because you certailny wont be displaying the AFA boxes to protect them from any light. Not counting the fortune it will cost each time you are AFAing.

Hoh well, like we say, your stuff, your money.

I, too, am guilty of keeping part of my collection sealed in packaging. However, they are at 98% doubles of Transformers I already own. This way, if something happen to one of my peice, I have a spare to replace it. Also, yeah, speculation. Still, everybody keep toys sealed nowadays so a sealed toy from today will be worth way less than the good old vintage. Offers/demands.

Anyway, what I mean is please AFA to your heart's content. BUT if you have the money to buy the rare and expensive peices and paying the expensive AFAing, you do have the money to get the reisue and enjoy the toy.
That feel when you remove it from packaging. The pleasure to apply stickers. The fun to transform them back and forth, posing them, and making dioramas! These toys are meant to be played with. Dont deny yourself that, even if your double is in a different color.
For example, SDCC Bruticus is worth AFAing, but you can get the G2 color or the retail version as your double to enjoy the mold.

Know what? I'm starting a new thread for that subject.

Just out of sheer curiosity, are they the packages that they'll be coming in or are they using stock photos until they get them in hand?

Late last month pre-orders started popping up for a new round of G1 Optimus Prime and Soundwave reissues. Thanks to an eBay auction we have our first look at this latest version of G1 Optimus Prime, which appears to come with the lighter gray trailer that was part of the 25th Anniversary reissue set. Ok. So they released the 2002 TRU reissue again except with the light grey trailer from the 25th anniversary. Hmm! :BOT:

Honestly, I always try to find something good to say about vintage pieces being reissued. But seeing how Hasbro handled this one, I'll just not say anything at all. >:oP

And besides, I am going to be okay without this in my collection... On account that I do not have Convoy, Rodimus Convoy, Super Ginrai, God Ginrai, Star Saber, Dai Atlas (at least the non-Alternity version), Battle Convoy, Nebulon Quest Super Convoy, Grimlock (as he became Supreme Commander in Marvel Comics), Powermaster Optimus Prime, and/or Rodimus Prime either in my collection or being pre-ordered. >:oP

Hmm, not getting him since I have the New Year Prime with Matrix, and blue windows/eyes (best so far)

I do wish they would reissue him with that awesome new Cartoon accurate head that the Music Label had.

Then I'll get another G1 optimus, and only then.

While I do agree with many of you saying most collectors have these, the next best scenario is that the release of these two figures tries to capture new collectors into the franchise. Who or what character is more know in the transformers universe than Optimus prime and soundwave? Let others enjoy the ownership of great transformers figures. There'll be time for us collectors out there to continue our worldly transformers endeavor, the quest for more cooler transformers. Hehehehe

So, am I correct in assuming that this Prime is Exactly the same as the 25th anniversary one that came out with the DVDs and comic? Does anybody know if there are any variations from the aforementioned one? If so, what are they? I collet G1 Primes and would like to know if I drop the dosh or not
