Jazz is borderline terrible. He is proof that Hasbro isn't even trying anymore. Yeah, you pay through the nose for 3rd party stuff, I get that, but dang, at least FP and Maketoys stuff is SOLID.

Some of the Giant bots are hollow in spots. Even hollow, they have more weight, more solidity than Jazz. And these 3rd partiers require more money because it costs them more to produce a much smaller run of figures.

Hasbro has more resources. More money. Do a smaller run, cut down on the paint apps that are useless, work on the ones that are needed, and give us a respectable figure.

It's not about making ends meet, for Hasbro.
It's not about cutting costs because the cost of everything went up.
It's about making the most money with the least possible amount of work. It's a cash grab and they're not even trying to hide it. I mean, the figures speak for themselves. The quality has gone DOWN.

DOWN.

Filler or not, there's no good reason for these toys to be so cheap feeling. CHEAP.

And Jazz's design wasn't all that good either. United was awesome but FoC?

I agree with Kibble more and more. I just watched Optibotimus' review for SDCC Bruticus and that thing is horrible.

It needs thicker plastic, better engineering and a Voyager Class Onslaught.

WTH, Hasbro?!

I have to agree with what others have posted here in saying that this FOC line has left a lot to be desired. I had such high hopes myself when they were 1st announced, but now that I have them in hand it is just too much to ignore how poor of an effort these figures are.

I admit that I have SDCC 2012 Bruticus that I scored on HTS.com, and I have Ops Jazz and Shockwave that I scored at Target.
I am not getting anymore of these as orders based on pictures or video though. I am going to wait for the Voyagers to hit shelves and then decide if I will get anymore FOC figures.

I have to admit I want Voyager Grimlock so far, and I will just have to see about the others.

Not always true. I know parents who bought their kids toys and when they broke, they never replaced them because the first one was "pure junk" and "Why would I waste more money to do that again?"

Most don't, but some do. We need more of the some dos.

nah, what we need are parents who encourage imagination and creativity in their children.

I pick up junk lots now and then for spare parts. My nephew loves going through them, i'll let him take some now and then. They might be missing body parts, he doesn't care. He just lets his imagnation run wild.

Broken TF's are only broken when no one wants to play with them anymore. :-(

I picked up FOC Jazz today, I like it. It feels lighter, but the plastic isn't fragile or "cheap" feeling to me. His chest looks funky though, IDK if it's the big gap or something else. RTS Jazz is p much the perfect Jazz for me, so this is going to be Munka Spanka I think. :KREMZEEK:

I bet fans wont be devastated as much as currently if the whole line FoC line sticks to it's true name and roots (FoC = Free of Charge? Geddit?)

:-( oh poo. Support my lame jokes, some of you!

Alternatively, One can speculate what are they going to do with the future figs. We've all seen that the later waves the retools get considerable mass in their weapons (I mean look at sideswipe's gun! or the Wreckers' armaments! it's like a response to repay the debt to the fans for the lack of mass in the current figs) and perhaps the later molds *may* be a tad complex? Hasbro prolly plays the ol' 'testing waters' phase to see if simpler transformation do any good to the target customers... I swore people complained on how hard WFC figures were to transform back then :-?

Sounds plausible.

Don't remember where I read this from, but the simplification supposedly started in response of parents' complaints that their kids couldn't figure out the complex transformations of the ROTF toys, which resulted in the increasingly simpler DOTM line. This trend continued into the first wave of PRID toys, and onto FoC.

I've got Shockwave, and he feels light, fragile and he's small. I know none of that is anything that hasn't been discussed in here already.
I still want to hope Bruticus will be ok, but I know it's all signs pointing to not on that. Shame.

If what you are saying is true, then I don't want it to stay any further else all of future molds for Classics/gens lines are gonna filled with figures of fisher-price level

But then again, the fisher toys are relatively sturdy and solid with decent plastic mass, soo.... :-?

Quite a few mods made by the fans that actually makes shockwave looks better, some of them are even pretty much obvious as to why hasbro can't do it (the legs!!!!) but I get what you mean; it's demoralizing having a shockwave and gleefully putting it against WFC only to see BB and CJ towers over him... :BANG_HEAD:

The only upside of Bruticus was the fact that they even bother to do a combiner, so that's more or less a way to appease the fandom that there's sliver of hope that we may get more combiners in later years (either new design or retools/repaints, dunno). At least kudos to them for making a combiner without any leftover combiner kibble.

But I suppose with how the figures nowadays (FOC, pRID) are getting simpler, chances are many will prolly just take bruticus as the next best thing available, or wait for next year (ie: Grimlock) or just altogether focusing on other aspects of collecting. I know I'm waiting for a giant T-Rex and it better not disappoint #-o

As far as designs getting simpler goes this is just something that happens in cycles and we have seen it before. The RiD line was seen as being overly complex and was followed by the over simplified Armada. Complexity crept back in until the movie toys (arguably) overdid it and we're now seeing a reset back to simpler designs. More complex design will creep back into the main lines until we see a similar situation five or ten years down the line. It's just the way things are.

I can overlook complexity, for a moment. And you do make a good point, but there's still the other problems:

Downsizing, plastic quality, construction quality.

Legends, Scouts, Deluxes, Voyagers and Leaders have all shrunken down considerably. We noticed little bits and pieces of it in the beginning of DOTM. Then came PRID. Now, we have FOC and we're seeing this downsizing get a little worse with each iteration.

Plastic quality isn't bad on DOTM, quite the opposite, in fact. PRID, hit or miss, I mean Breakdown's leg panels are THIN. FOC Jazz is so thin, piece of him can actually flex if you apply enough pressure.

Construction quality on DOTM was your standard fare. Rods, screws, capped pins.
Construction quality on PRID has been a mixed bag. Wheels snap on now. The Arcee/Ratchet wave was the last one to have wheels attached with a capped pin. Some of the newer figures are snap together in spots, especially Breakdown. His feet!
Construction quality on FOC has been tremendously cut down. Jazz is hinges galore. I think there's two, perhaps three in the entire figure. Just a few screws here and there on the shell to hold it together. The rest of it is literally snapped together. His arms and legs are attached by ball joint. His elbows and knees and ankles are literally snapped together and they frequently pop out. Those will wear out, or stress, or flat out break, given enough time and handling.

We might get complexity back, but unless these other problems are addressed, the complexity will actually work against the figure, rather than in favor of it.

We are of one mind on this, and since all these aspects are being discussed to death recently I've not really felt the need to weigh in on them. I was only trying to address the complaints regarding simpler designs, as this is something on which I don't thing HasTak really deserve the stick that they're getting. It may well not cause quite as much consternation if it wasn't coming on top of all the other problems lately. Or probably it would, because if there's one thing this fandom is good at it's complaining.

More simplistic transformations are one thing...poor designs are another. You can avoid floating heads, gaps all over, and parts that don't lock into place that lead to shitty looks or shitty play and still have a straight forward transformation.

These figures are pure garbage. Jazz has some terrible arm joints, that get loose right out of the package, along with his hips. Making him pose is next to impossible.

Don't get me started on "Mini" Prime. Stupid over-sized gun, floating head, and next to no arm articulation.

Glad I only bought two, won't make the mistake of buying any others.

True they aren't great, but it's the best thing what we can get at the moment. I just hope that this downgrade will not be a new trend from Hasbro or Takara/Tomy in the next future. :-?

"but it's the best thing we can get at the moment" just feeds them a whole bunch of "HAH! We were right! They WILL buy them! Make 'em all like this." into their already messed up minds.

This trend will continue until someone actually puts on a BIG show for Hasbro that makes them see "Whoa. Okay. We're about to be lynched."

I've owned (and still do) several TakaraTomy releases. Sturdy. The plastic is solid. Even Masterpiece Rodimus with flawed design choices, is better built than today's offerings. In the time since Rodimus and the DOTM line, we've seen changes in plastic, size, quality, construction, and an increase in price.

Hasbro's Masterpiece Rodimus? Breaks. Without you ever laying a hand on it. Plastic's crap.
FOC? Like I said, I've seen sturdier plastic in disposable utensils. Jazz flexes. And now, TakaraTomy's using thin, and I mean really thin, plastic on their PRID/Arms Micron line. Breakdown's a fantastic figure, but most of his body shell is just that, a shell. Akin to an egg's. When TT cuts corners, that's a bad, bad sign.

This trend will continue. We have the power to stop it.
