Bernie Mac on Transformers

Theres a blurb over at superherohype about Bernie Macs role in the movie.

While interviewing Bernie Mac about his next film, the swimming drama Pride, the actor briefly talked about his role in Michael Bay's Transformers.

"I play a used car salesman, and all used car salesmen are full of sh*t – scuse my French – but they're con men," said Mac. "And they came to my set and I sold them the Transformer; I didn't know it was the Transformer, I thought it was a piece of junk. And the first thing you do as a salesman, a car salesman – I didn't know this, I did some investigating myself – they always sell you the 'bs' cars first. It's almost like a restaurant – get rid of the food, rotate it. When they come, I didn't know what the car exists of, and I just threw them a line; I'm a fast talker, quick whit guy. I got a chance to have some fun and Michael [Bay] – man, I've been fortunate, man, because every director allows Bernie Mac to do his thing. I have not been handcuffed since my career started from Ted Demme; every time a director, every time we'd do it straight, they always tell me, 'Now Bernie Mac it.' That's a luxury, you know."

Wasn't Seibs a used car salesman once?

Either way, my theory on Bernie Mac is the smaller the part the better.

Sounds good, as long as he doesn't become Cobra Commander.

I do most of my work for used car salesmen!

So I'm very opinionated right now over that statement.

I think what I'd realy like to say is, or more so ask; is where can I get a T-Shirt of this post!?! !?!

I break my a$$ all day for these guys who give me hell then do this all day themselves...

Heh heh. Yep. I was a used car salesman from 97 - 98 and then I flipped to new cars from 98 - 2000 because I liked selling the set price to the GM employees. The dealership I worked at for about 3 of the years I sold cars had a set price on the vehicle. If you came in, the price was right on the window. If you didn't like the price, there was nothing I could do to negotiate the price. It was an interesting and far better way to sell cars. I did it the old fashioned way during my last year of selling cars. That's when I decided that that wasn't how I wanted to spend the rest of my life so I got into programming (thank god!).

I wasn't initially thrilled about Bernie Mac being in the movie. But after I read the script last August, his role in the movie really grew on me. It'll be a fun scene in the movie I think.

Somehow--And this is probably the lack of sleep talking--that's hilarious.

It's good to see recognizable actors in our movie. I just hope that he adds humor to the role!

Sorry I've seen a couple episodes of his series and I absolutly hate the way he acts. There's verry few things he ever says on that show that I'll agree with. Most of it I think is pure BS the way he talks about his family. I'm glad he only has a small part in the movie. It's bad enough allready without adding in actors I hate to the story.

So far as I know the movie is at least getting decent actors to play the main parts in the film and I'm hoping that'll be enough to make the movie look good because everything elce so far looks horrible.

Um...what? something about going to a restaurant with rotating food and then had some fun with Michael Bay then something about getting arrested and then Bernie Mac-ing it?

Ok I'm lost.

I never in a million years have would've thought I would hear Bernie Mac's name and Transformers in the same sentence. Oh well, it might me fun. But from the interview I wonder if he knows what he calls being told to "Bernie Mac it" is really just type casting.

Yup, you got that right.

BTW I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't understand a freaking word he was saying in that interview.

As long as he comes in small doses, I have no problem with Bernie Mac. It's when he's tapped to take a more prominent role that things start to fall apart...

Yeah The Mac Man is funny as hell , hes perfect for the part of a used car salesman lol .. When i first read he was playing this part way back when it first came out i was like " yeah thats a perfect role for him "

It's because he puts his own spin on things and alot of the time don't follow the script and it comes out better then what the writers wrote..
