Not even partially true. It's bigger than ever because of him. The worst thing that's happened to Transformers is Hasbro. their incompetence is on the level of deliberate sabotage. If they keep that up the franchise won't last another 5 years.
Hasbro is second! They killed Transformers in the 90's with Action Masters. The "Transformers hiatus" that many of us had to endure in the U.S. was the BEST thing to happen to the toyline. It reminded us what we had. It came back, better than ever... after a few "stumbles".
Years later, Bay makes a movie. It's awful, but makes MILLIONS! So, Hasbro starts churning out sub-par crap. TONS of sub-par crap. Some of which is still warming shelves right now.
It doesn't matter if Bay makes another film or not. People outside of the fandom will still roll their eyes and watch another emptied-headed explosion-fest in 3D to kill 3 hours of their lives... and they will reluctantly buy the figures for their children because of it.
Hasbro will count the money and send out 20 more versions of Bumblebee.
Make another movie Bay, and let the cycle continue.
