Boom Sticks

Why would he call them this instead of whatever they actually were? Plasma charges, thermal detonators, energon bombs..... hell he could have just called them explosives! Why would he choose to refer to them as "Boom sticks"?

My theory: he was dumbing it down for the primitive ape-men. He wasn't really characterized in the movie, and there's no bio out for him yet (that I've seen anyway, if I'm wrong then point me in the right direction), so could it be that he doesn't think much of flesh creatures? That'd be a pretty amusing character trait actually. Have him acting all condescending to the humans all the time, haw.

What do you think? Maybe it was just bad writing, I dunno.

I think Bay put it in there because he wanted to sound cool.

Because they wanted to.

It's simple, straight-forward and very simply true.
So what's the big deal? Would you have preferred "a cylindrical small-explosive bomb"?

When the pillars were introduced, it had to be said that what are they for. The name "boom sticks" speaks for itself: they are sticks that go boom, easy as that.

Sorry, it does sound like I was complaining about it, I simply meant to point it out and speculate rather than complain. Actually, if he HAD called them "Cylindrical small-explosive bombs" I would have loved that!

You kidding me? Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi would be proud that they called 'em boomsticks.

"Alright you primitive screw heads, Listen up! See this? This is my... BOOMSTICK. Its a 12 gauge double barrel Remington, S Mart's top of that line"

I couldn't resist

I immediately thought it had to be a reference to Army of Darkness. It may or may not be meant that way, but I would like to think it is.

I meant it's a blasphemy not to know Army of Darkness. Unless what he said was a reference to it, in which case I feel like an ass.

Actually no, I wasn't referencing to anything.

Sorry if I caused anyone some sort of discomfort.

And since some Army of Darkness quotes are cool... I wish this one would have found itself a spot on the Transformers movies... Perhaps this one would have been appropriate somewhere in ROTF... "I got news for you pal. You ain't leading but two things right now: Jack and $hit... and Jack just left town." lol
