If Movie Longarm can't be used because of his appearance in the video game and movie, then Breakaway is disqualified as well, having appeared in the RotF and DotM games.

Anyway...

I like the mold, but not as Skywarp. Like everyone else is saying, ROTF Breakaway would probably have been the better choice, despite Jelze's understandable point.

I honestly don't mind this guy. What I don't understand though is why on Earth they've said that this one might not impress. They might as well have said 'We know this one's crap. We wanted to use Skywarp and came up with this.'

Saying this might not impress makes about as much sense as using the Chewbacca Defense.

Getting another look at it and seeing that the length is passable, it really does warrant the question of why they didn't just use the prexisting moulds for Armorhide's gun here. It's a little shorter than I'd like, but is far better than nothing at all here.

I'm not sure I get the point you're trying to make here. As some way of showing Breakaway supporters that that hideous Dirge mold is a better choice, you post a picture of the better figure, and, the one that people are saying they'd prefer?

I don't know about anyone else, but all this picture does for me is confirm for me the idea that I'd have been more pleased with a MW Skywarp as a Breakaway repaint rather than the crummy Dirge repaint.

Honestly, I think the question is, what Jet molds were available? Could they even have gone with, say, Animated moulds? Why on earth did they go with Jetblade? Did someone in Fun Pub make the choice, or did Hasbro force it on them. If it was Hasbro's call and I was running Fun Pub, then I'd be wanting to put it out there asap - especially considering that even they appear to have known it was going to be a bit of a lame duck.

Hasbro has made a few jet molds available to FunPub, and they just had to make due. RotF Dirge would have been the better choice IMO, not only because it has slightly less Movie-esque aesthetics (hunchback, separated toes), but also because it can be seen as a logical evolution of the basic Seeker design with the intakes on the shoulders, the turbines and the (fake) cockpit on the chest.

I also wonder what aircraft are usable at this point for Starscream and Megatron/Megaplex. I can't see either of them using RtS Lugnut.

I like this figure. I ended up liking this mold a lot more than I thought I would, and I like this darker paintjob on it. The head is pretty generic looking to me, but all in all this is a nice looking figure.

You're bringing up RtS Lugnut, well, how about the ROTF/RtS Mindwipe/Strafe mold for Starscream? It sort of even cuts the same profile as the original MW Starscream figure does, after a fashion.

Most likely Armorhide's gun is gang-molded in with the figure's mold and it would cost a lot of money for the Club to set up a whole new production line for a small accessory. Money which, as we've seen, The Club doesn't want to spend (out of being cheap or being frugal).

I don't think Powerglide or Lugnut are "advanced" enough to fit in with the Machine Wars aesthetic. Even back in 96, the Decepticons became top of the line fighter jets.

Of the various RotF and TF2010 planes, I'd say the Mindwipe mold is a given, and possibly TF2010 Terradive/DotM Space Case.

Royalties probably got in the way. Longarm was based on the tow truck in the movie, thus Paramount could possibly ask licensing fees for that to be used.

And RotF Hoist is moot, as during the movie lines any mold was fair game for Hasbro. Now, any toy that did not appear in any media associated with the movie excluding the comics can be used by Hasbro and FunPub.

I'm well aware of the ASP-series by Hasbro Asia and whatever TakaraTomy is doing, since they're separate companies different rules may apply.

Even ruling that out though, there was surely some solution that could have been found to actually wind up with a tow truck alt mode for him. After all, it's as iconic to Hoist as being an Ambulance is to Ratchet.

For all the people asking " why didn't they use this mold instead"... what the club picks is always subject to the molds availability. Some are in storage and inaccessible, lost, or destroyed. Makes for a much shorter list to pick from than you think, sadly.

The truth of the matter is, we haven't had tow truck molds in a very good while, especially discounting Movie Longarm. The last one was the original Machine Wars mold if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, all things considered... I'm FINE with them changing a tow truck to a regular truck for a redux... especially if there is a good reason behind it.

And I'm hoping the good reason is the Electro repaint. Crossing my fingers for that one. >:oP

I realise that. So why weren't Hoist (and Hubcap for that matter) simply ignored as character choices then if they weren't able to do them justice. After all this was originally advertised as an expansion on the original MAchine Wars line, meaning that there wasn't going to be a need to cover every original MW toy.

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:The truth of the matter is, we haven't had tow truck molds in a very good while, especially discounting Movie Longarm. The last one was the original Machine Wars mold if I'm not mistaken.

You mean like how, with the exception of the Longarm repaint, we haven't had a genuine Hoist figure in a long time (and no, shoehorned legends class figure repaints don't count as genuine, anymore than G2 Gobot "Vomitwave" counts as a genuine Soundwave figure)?

Which is an utterly flawed argument. Figure off, deluxe class neck balljoints tend to be fairly standardised in terms of size so there was nothing stopping a head swap happening for the most part. If a different mould was chosen

Secondly even if it wasn't possible to simply reuse the mold, there would have been nothing stopping FP from using the Kup mould with a new head sculpt for Electro at some point anyway. Runamuck and Runabout are glaring proof of that. For anyone trying to counter this by claiming that FP wouldn't use a mould for a single character, there are several instances where they have done exactly that.

No the flawed argument is that you're at the very least implying that Generations Kup being used for MW Hoist is somehow a mandatory precedent for him being done as Electro.

The fact is that FP have a history of single usages of existing molds to produce figures and with custom heads. Astrotrain and Airrazor anyone? Not to mention Punch/Counterpunch.

Don't get me wrong, if we get a G2 Electro out of the Kup mold, then I'm happy for you. But at the end of the day, it ultimately materialising in no way, shape or form, hinges on the mould being used for MW Hoist. To suggest otherwise is to ignore the history of FP figure releases.

Did they? Honestly the smoking gun here is the upcoming Slipstream figure. That figure proves that they had access to the TF Prime moulds (at least some of them anyway), meaning that the Starscrem mould (and quite possibly the Soundwave mould) could have been used here. That raises the question of it wasn't chosen for Thundercracker and Skywarp.
