As of now, we have 2 good figures, Hoist and Strika, and 2 crap figures, Skywarp and Obsidian.

While I don't imagine them being part of the box set, I think there's a good chance that MW Skywarp remold will also be used for MW Thundercracker and Hoist will be MW Hubcap. Maybe as a separate two pack or attendance freebie.

Hmmm. Who else do we still need...

Oddly, the Classics Mirage mold would probably still be the best bet for MW Mirage and Prowl except that it is so old and has already been used so much. Maybe DotM Drag Strip

Universe Silverbolt for Starscream? Another mold that may be too old by now.

Cybertron Defence Red Alert would be perfect for Soundwave but again, see above.

Yeah, the only one that I can see is DotM Skyhammer as Sandstorm like JelZe GoldRabbit said.

Well I may be in the minority, but I really like Obsidian. The color scheme is quite accurate, and the fact they are including these characters into MW lore is actually very interesting.

I'm sorry, is this a Machine Wars update set or Beast Machines? Both Strika and Obsidian never made an appearance until Beast Machines. I'm not complaining mind you, I'm just trying to sort out some confusion here.

:HEADHURTS:

MACHINE WARS

MW takes place AFTER G1/G2 but BEFORE The Great Reformatting.
Strika and Obsidian were THE GREATEST GENERALS IN THE HISTORY OF CYBERTRON according to Beast Machines.
But we never saw ANY of it.
They are being worked into the brand new MACHINE WARS stories.

People, we've gotten TWO characters from BM. TWO. Two characters who have a place in G1 cannon, but who have never seen it realized before. MACHINE WARS. NOT BEAST MACHINES.

Sorry, it's just a tad frustrating seeing that questioned asked so many times, when it's clearly answered already. :(

Edit: This isn't directed directly at you. It's for everyone. It's just kind of annoying me that people don't get it. It's in the blasted TITLE. Machine Wars.

For those who don't know.
Machine Wars was a short-lived (1 wave) toy line that occurred in the middle of the Beast Wars toyline and was a KB toys exclusive. There was NEVER any associated story material outside of the toys bios. That's what this Botcon is seeking to rectify.

Actually, I seem to recall Obsidian is actually hovering, his feet/tail is about a half a head off the ground, which means for all intents and purposes he appears to be Strika's height...

I really liked this figure until someone mentioned Incinerator, and now i want an Incinerator repaint, but if I recall, isn't that figure now wrapped in movie related red tape, (licensing?) or is there some other reason we haven't gotten a reapint out of it? The Lugnut repaint is a good use of the Lugnut mold, a figure arguably trapped bu its own uniqueness. The Highbrow figure I like, but I just nabbed Powerdive and as cool as it is, and I like the Obsidian paint scheme, i just don't want to sully Powerdive...

Too bad Obsidian didn't maintain the flight helmet gimic of his moldmates' heads.. ;)

I have a feeling they went for the toy accurate bright green because the cartoon accurate drab green would make it look too much like GDO Powerdive.

While I like Strika, I'm meh about Obsidian. 1 out of 4 ain't bad, right? right? :BANG_HEAD:

And what happened to the Machine Wars theme? This is the same thing that drove me crazy about the 2010 G2 Redux set ... it basically had very little to do with G2 in the end with the exception of a couple of figures.

If I was in charge of the official convention and club fiction, I'd do whatever I could to make sure that the fiction filled in the gaps, told the story "behind the story", allowed time for characters to have their moment in the spotlight (tell us about Ultra Mammoth's trip to prehistoric Earth and what role he played during the Beast Wars, tell us about the battle between Classics Circuit vs Banzai-Tron or some other clever storyline with Classics Action Master characters, give us the Nemesis Prime/Scourge vs Optimus Prime story we've all been waiting for.

Maybe they're trying to hard to make it a "theme" instead of just letting each character shine on its own. The themes haven't really worked that great with the exception of the Beast Wars theme, the 2007 Classics theme, and (as much as it kills me to say this) the Shattered Glass theme.

I can sora see what they're doing here. These guys are from Beast Machines. They're going to tie them into Machine Wars. I get it. Not really my thing, but I can get it.

They also seem to be homaging her animated design just a bit:

She looks a bit Brawl-ish, with some sort of Cybertronian tank design.

Might get Obsidian, so his voyager can go with my old BM deluxe Strika, though I wonder why in Machine Wars -where most of the vehicles were intended to be fairly advanced or at least modern- a propeller driven aircraft would be chosen for a mold.

It's like saying WFC/FOC Shockwave looks like Energon Shockblast when both are really just meant to be different takes on homaging G1 Shockwave.

Well, I was thinking the tank design more than the color scheme. I hate that she uses Warpath's mold to accomplish it, but I think it's an attempt to make her a tank rather than the armored carrier design of her original toy.

Not really ... it appears to be homaging the Animated Strika's color scheme. Even with your example, Energon Shockblast has a very different color schemne than a traditional G1 Shockwave color scheme.

Those are Strika's BM cartoon colors.

While Animated Strika has them too, BM Strika had them first and that's who this toy is meant to evoke.

Hasbro requested the toy colors for Obsidian, but Fun Pub seemed to want to do show colors for both and were only permitted them for one.

As a result, both mediums get homaged with Strika representing the show and Obsidian the toy.

Rated X mentioned the GDO Powerdive toy as a possible reason for Hasbro making them go with Obby's toy colors since his show colors would be similar.

But honestly, would you think Strika would have been as well received as she was if she had her less-than-awesome toy colors? Those show colors on Strika are gorgeous and I'd take her even without Obsidian. =P~
