Buyers beware...

It's doubtable a collector will fall for this age old trick (unless drunk or otherwise not in the right state of mind) but with the holidays quickly approaching I'm sure at least a few of us are going to place a Transformer on the "wish" list. I know my relatives are as clueless about Transformers as I am about Dr. Who, so if one is buying strictly off a name, this could be an issue.

I will admit it gave me a laugh at first, but it quickly turned into one of those "really? WTF is wrong with people" things. Brought them up to Customer Service after I snapped the shot. It's no real wonder it happened. Even after I said it was a bait and switch technique they couldn't figure out why until I pointed out the exacto blade marks and how the art and figures were completely different. Little harder to tell with Jack-Jazz, I guess, if you don't know anything about the franchise, but, come on, how does Megatron look anything like Shockwave? *face palm*

Seen this trick with toys on ebay before. First time I've seen it in a brick-and-mortar store.

Iv'e seen it before. During DOTM, someone switched Megatrons and Optimus gun from one package to another.
Could this be the start of retailer trolling?

But in all seriousness, Iv'e seen customized transformers in packaging at retail before. ROTF Starscream in target exclusive DOTM voyager starscream's packaging. Had all his tattoos removed with nail polish or something, but you could see that they used to be there when you looked along the edges were the figure split apart for transformation. I didn't buy it, it looked like crap.

Sometimes, I feel the "No returns on transformers" Policy here is for the better...

And yep, stores here really stick to it, where they won't accept any TF returns... Bad for me, after my MP Rodimus broke... but that's another story... :-(

Look at the bright side...in the case of Wheeljack, at least they're getting a better figure.

Toy swapping is a thing of all ages, sadly, so much that TFWiki has an entry on it

Who'd want to repackage a wheeljack? That this is awesome in plastic form.

This is the moment you know...

IT IS TIME TO LEAVE MOM'S BASEMENT!

When you swap figures.

Well clearly they did, how else would they have swapped the figures? Image

Since the price of a Deluxe has dropped, this is actually potentially quite profitable. Especially if someone has a lot of older Deluxes around to do the swaps with.

Like others have said though, I'd much rather have Generations Wheeljack than FoC Jazz, regardless of the price difference. Jazz is actually an OK toy, but Wheeljack is pure awesome.

Someone posted on 4chan a TF packaging with 3 oranges in it. Another is a Classic Ironhide with a wasp hive in the packaging, dubbed "Ironhive".

Still, the most baffling is a Voyager TF Prime RiD Optimus Prime swapped with... Voyager CLASSIC Optimus Prime!

Wow, haha, I bet someone got a GREAT deal on a (probably incomplete) Classics Prime. But even as just the figure, doesn't it go for like $30+ on average? xD

Heck, even one of the good knockoffs will get you your money back.

What country did this happen in? Is this a result of dumbing down of our society? That was nice of you to point out the error to the Customer Service folks. Hope they were grateful.

I've been victim of toy swapping. Never fell for it, but I saw a ROTF HA Bee in HA Jazz's packaging at a Target.

I'm less inclined to believe Ironhide because it wasn't on the pegs, but that Classics/Prime Prime **** is mighty funny (in an awful, awful way).
