Seiberbron.com member chuckdawg1999 was one of the lucky few who were able to purchase the Toys"R"Us exclusive Hasbro Masterpiece Soundwave online last Thursday. He's now received the set and posted a review, which can be found embedded below. For those of you who weren't fortunate enough to snag this guy online, start checking your local Toys"R"Us locations. Reports stared coming in yesterday that this set is appearing in shelves.

If I don't see Soundwave at my local Toys "R" Us this weekend, I'm holding off for him and getting that Voyager Classics Optimus Prime I found for a sweet deal. Super tight budget, can't afford both.

Looks fantastic. Again, my only gripe is that the visor is yellow. I prefer show-accuracy over toy-accuracy. Is there a way to screw the head open, remove the visor, and just paint it red?

I bet we might see some Reprolabels for this at some point. If so, there's a good chance it will include a red visor sticker.

Oh, what I would do to go visit the United Kingdom just to get MP10, if he truly is shelfwarming.

Good job to chuckdawg for the review, but really what I wan't to see most about this figure is a comparison gallery between US and Japanese versions. So far as I know, the yellow visor is all that is different, but I just want to make sure. Idk, there could be some slight color hue variation in the plastics or something. And this goes for the cassettes too.

I emailed Toys R Us and they said they have a very large order due in mid-august. Apparently they should be on shelves towards the end of August.

This is awesome but what annoys me is his visor is yellow and not red..

Well I prefer comic accuracy, and this is how he looked in the UK comics. My greatest hope is that this sells so well as to prompt a beautiful purple repaint. Yes, I'm serious. They could repaint all the cassettes into the Cobalt Sentries, Enemy, and Four-Star knock-off color schemes for the other Frumble and Buzzsaw...or just screw the second Lasersaw repaint and do a second Ravage in green to give us Masterpiece Blackcat!

Though I do agree with you in principle that Hasbro's insistence on repainting for toy-accuracy kind of defeats the whole point of Masterpieces going for greater media accuracy. Their trailerless Rodimus Prime ended up not being accurate to much except those 3H comics where he tried to knock Beast Machines out of continuity just like Shokaract's future; a worthwhile cause, but still...

I plan on picking up Takara's Soundwave someday too, since he was my fav in the cartoon, so I want both eye colors. Considering how nuts everyone's going for Hasbro's set, I think its price is going to soar on the secondary market like nothing we've seen before (search ebay for TRU MP Grimlock; this could realistically go for double his price by the end of the year, and I'm still kicking myself for snoozing and losing out on him), so it unnerves me that so many collectors are going to try and mod the eye color, since many attempts are bound to fail and ruin a significant fraction of these guys.

Well, we got a redeco of MP Grimlock in his comic colors several years ago. Perhaps one day that would be a possibility. ;)

The only repaint I can see coming is Soundblaster
