Congratulations Takara: A First

My congratulations go out to TakaraTomy for doing something that I never thought possible.

I gave up on a Transformer.

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out or understand why: it's Masterpiece Rodimus. Don't get me wrong: it's a gorgeous figure (at least, robot mode is - I don't have firsthand experience with alt mode). The Transformation steps really aren't that complicated. But actually transforming the figure is next to impossible. No pieces broke, but several pieces felt to be on the verge of doing so. And no matter what I tried, I couldn't get the parts to line up. Lots of stiff, tight joints.

I tried and tried. I got the car's front end done - looked great. But the back end was just a jumble of panels hanging out. I spent probably half an hour trying to get it to work, but it just won't go. I had better luck with Masterpiece Megatron.

So he's going to stay in robot mode. Maybe, if/when Hasbro releases him in the U.S. and the reviews aren't bad, I'll grab him and either swap him out entirely or use one for robot and the other for car.

But wow. I never thought I'd ever give up on a Transformer. I have absolutely no desire to try again. Way to set the bar, Takara.

Has anyone else ever given up on a Transformer? Who and why?

I gave up on ROTF Optimus prime and haven't even attempted to transform my MP Megatron.

Doesn't surprise me. Every Takara toy I've bought has been made of **** compared to the Hasbro one.

Say what you like about Hasbro's paint applications, choice of colours and missile sizes, they at least generally have the much better QA

I feel your pain on MP Rodimus. Sadly it is just not a well executed figure.

ROTF Prime is complicated, but I find it to be delightfully so. And I found MP Megatron to be a lot easier than I've heard. I got the latest reissue, so either problems have been resolved, or I got lucky and got a good figure.

A temporary setback, I assure you. I've still got a few more figures from my Pile of Loot that I've yet to open, so I'm going to go to those for now, as they'll bring me more joy and less frustration.

I gave up on Megs, he was too scary to transform and I had to remove the *****ing RUST. To goodbye megs, hello bag of money.

ROTF Prime was a blast to Transform the first time. My dad and I where sitting by the table and he was observing my struggle. 30 minutes in: 'He says his name is Prime.'
Didn't give up on Prime. I love the Jetfire combo. Awesome.

There is nothing wrong with the way MP Hot Rod's transformation is designed. I got it right on the second attempt. Ryan managed it as well for his photo gallery. I don't feel like anything is on the verge of breaking and all four wheels can touch the ground.

If you want some advice on how to get the back of the car to line up just let me know. There are some tricks to how parts line up.

Yeah, don't give up. When I gave up, that's the time I looked at the instruction. When I gave up looking at the instruction, that's the time I looked at the video review. When that still didn't work............ haven't happened to me yet.

Oh yea, that's why I didn't buy him and still enjoy my FP Protector set.
