Considering getting BW Transmetal Megatron, but wary of GPS...

Greetings!

I was thinking about tracking down a Transmetal Megatron, but I know he can be susceptible to the dreaded Gold Plastic Syndrome. So I was wondering:

1: Is it certain that all Transmetal Megatron figures will suffer from GPS?

2: Is there any way of protecting a toy against GPS (like brushing glue onto the surface of the toy to reinforce the plastic)?

3: If the toy does succumb to GPS, can it be glued back together?

4: Does Armada Predacon suffer from GPS?

Thanks for reading.

1) Transmetal Megatron suffers from both weaker plastic and a minor design flaw. Could be GPS, but it has more to do with how the waist joint is constructed.

2) We know the probable cause of GPS, but we have no way of preventing it properly, short of putting the affected figure in the fridge like Seibertron has done with G2 Slingshot. I tend to avoid them altogether, and look for repaints instead.

3) You could, but it will break again. Thing is, the breaks seem to be random, down to looking at it funny.

4) Fortunately for you, both Armada Predacon and the Japanese version of Transmetal Megatron have no gold plastic, so no GPS.

You can read more about Gold Plastic Syndrome on TFWiki.

Thanks mate! I might go for Armada Predacon (getting an older toy from Japan will probably be enormously expensive). Yesss....

Thanks again and happy transforming!

I would do the same and get the Armada predacon.

FYI, I actually found a seller on ebay selling Misb Japanese Beast wars figures. I picked up the VS-44 pack, which is transmetal tarantulas and transmetal rhinox, for $43.95 shipped.

I have both the US and Japanese versions as well as Armada Predacon. None of them have suffered this fate thankfully, but then again, I've only transformed the US version a couple times and now he remains posed in bot mode holding the Golden Disc on my shelf.

I would recommend the Japanese version though if breakage is a major concern. Armada Predacon just doesn't do it for me color-wise and is clearly way off base as far as what Megatron looked like in Beast Wars (which makes sense since he's clearly supposed to be a different character).

Hello,

Sorry to bring an old topic back from the Dead.

I just got a Transmetal Megatron on ebay loose. Was scared it'll arrive in pieces but it didn't and looks great. I love the look of this thing in both modes so I keep transforming it =X and so far everything is fine. I even dropped it by accident and its fine... lol Am I pushing my luck? should I just leave it alone because it'll break eventually?

I guess my question is has anyone actually fiddled with it and transformed it a bunch with no issues?

thanks in advance! This Megs looks awesome.

I recently purchased a used Transmetal 2 Megatron. When I got it, it was in beast mode. The first time Transforming him, his waist did indeed snap. To avoid this miserable experience in the future, I decided that I'm going to get 2 of them. Keep one in beast-mode and the other in robo-mode.

Transmetal 2 Megatron has GPS too?

Just Transmetal Megatron. TM 2 Dragon Megatron has no such issue, though I have no idea if it's wont to snap at the waist or not due to some other potential design flaw.

Whoops! Yes, you are right. Sorry, I meant the first Transmetals Megatron.

EDIT:

Forgot to mention that, apparently the Takara version does not suffer from GPS.
