Custom character Tumbler

Postby tentagil » Sun Mar 19, 2006 10:40 pm

Okay, this is guy I originally created to play on the Siebertron.com Heavy Metal War game. Ove time he's developed a bit of a personality and now he's decided he needs figure (no I'm not nuts why do you ask) So here he is in all his orange glory.

I'm still taking pics to put together a gallery, and a big pile of energon to anyone who recognizes the head (not to hard really)

Yep thats Sharpnel's head. And it attaches jsut like it did to his original body, jsut had to round it off a bit with a file. Also though its hard to see in this pic, I modifed the power key port to jsut use a button to activate it.

That key mod is awesome. I want to do that to all my GF stuff. I really don't like the Force Chip gimmick but give me a button and :D .

Also, paint job looks fantastic!

I agree about the planet key thing, it's a really sucky gimmick

I was already thinking about putting a button on CD Red Alert's arm gun/tool/thing. This has convinced me, to go ahead and do it. Gonna do the same for the CD Hotshot I'm currently modding.

That paint looks smooth. 8)

That looks great - the button looks like it was always part of the design! What did you use to make it?

Something that was already part of the design:) I jsut cut down a power key, shaved it so it would be looser in the housing so the spring already on the mechanism could push it back, then built a backplate out of styrene to hold it in place. You push the button forward it triggers, then the spring that was already there pops the button back.

And thanks for the comments on the paint, much of the orange was done useing Krylon Fusion for all the orange, then I hand painted all the detail work, like the silver on his arms and the blue on the eyes. As well as some other stuff for the jeep mode that you can't see in these pics. Also gave him a little bit of a brown paint wash on the wheels and runner to give the jeep/dune buggy mode some more character.

The first time i saw that mold i thought it sucked. Since then so many people have made great bashes from it and it is very articulated, I have changed my opinion of it. :D . Nice work.

Its the Hardtop/Swindle mold. I made this guy out of swindle since I figured it would be easier to cover the yellow.

Looking at Tumbler, I could see another Autobot with a similar colorscheme, but a different head, and a little more OD green, That character being the GI Autobot, Roadbuster.
