cyb SKYWARP voyager repaint (pic heavy)

Postby ZedzDead » Mon Sep 17, 2007 7:36 am

hi there. i came across a junker TRU 2 pack voyager SS that had no tail fins or gun. i used this as a model for my supreme SS (skywarp) repaint. i have 4 supereme SS about to repaint. first one will be skywarp, then thundercracker, and maybe i'll leave it up to you guys to determine if i should do a sunstorm or thrust. then for the last one, i will just chrome out the silver on SS to make him look better. any feedback on this guy would be nice. i feel i'm getting alot better at repainting, and think i'm ready to tackle 4 huge supreme size bots for my collection. oh, and i may put this up on ebay soon, so if you want it, make an offer.

Woah...

I really like that. How did you get the purple to be so consistent and smooth?

Very, very nice job.

well, since i couldnt for the life of me find any violet purple spray, i had to use another alternative. i used a metallic purple permanent marker, then sealed it w/ krylon matte finish.

works ridiculously great. as long as you seal the marker app, it will never rub away. plus it leaves a nice finish.
you cant really see it too well in the pics, but the metallic purple really stands out nicely.

That is one of the best Skywarp repaints I have seen, not too much black, nor too much purple.

The fact that the purple was drawn on with a texta makes it even more impressive!

This version of Cybertron Starscream was readily available in the VP-SS two pack in UK TRUs some time ago.

Good luck finding any now though.

Tell me more about the markers you used...

Anyways.

I'm curious as to how you went about this.
Did you use markers to 'repaint' the entire figure? Or just details?

I must know, because I think this'd be a very good way to 'repaint' a Classics Starscream into Thundercracker.

Tell me exactly how you went about this!

Please/ :P

Not sure if you know already but the red one isn't repainted. That's the version of Starscream that comes in the 2 pack with Vector Prime.

Standard procedure at Hasblo Inc that. Fanmade will pretty much always be better than mass produced stuff from the world's most hated toy company.

Thanks for that matey!

Now I can get started on producing classics thundercracker!

How long did the krylon sealer take the dry?

Also, while I'm thinking about it, what sort of paint did you use for the base? Acrylic? Enamel?

Any particular brand?

oh sorry, thought i said earlier what base i used. i used krylon fusion black satin finish. then sealed w/ krylon matte.

actually, the sealer takes only about a minute to dry. but for quality, i'll do a little bit of painting, seal once or twice, then walk away from it for a day or two. just to make sure itz dry. there have been instances where when i apply the sealer, small cracks show up, i'm not sure how or why. anyone else ever have this prob?

I'm noting this down!

Thanks again matey!

So parts need sanding first, or...

So paint, leave to dry, add a thin second layer, dry, add marker apps, then apply one layer of sealer, dry, and then a second?

Sounds doable to me!
