Paramount Pictures has announced that Transformers: Dark Of The Moon has passed the $1 Billion dollar benchmark. This is a monumental achievement for our favorite Robots In Disguise. Here is the official Paramount announcement.

Paramount Pictures wrote:“TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON” CROSSES $1 BILLION WORLDWIDE

HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 3, 2011) – Worldwide box office receipts for TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, have hit $1 billion, Paramount Pictures announced today. To date, the third installment of the hit Transformers franchise, and the first shot in 3-D, has grossed $338 million in U.S. (through Monday) and $663 million internationally (through Tuesday).

“TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is the first billion dollar grossing movie in the history of Paramount Pictures, marking a substantial milestone in the 99 year life of this legendary studio," said Brad Grey, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures. “We are grateful for the extraordinary work of Michael Bay and his film-making team, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and everyone at Paramount around the globe who played a part in helping make this latest TRANSFORMERS one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time".

Earlier this summer, Paramount was the first studio to reach $1 billion in domestic grosses, aided by the $180.7 million opening of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON over the July 4th holiday. This is the fifth year in a row that Paramount has reached the milestone before any other studio. Paramount Pictures International crossed the $2 billion mark on July 30th, making it the first for any studio this year to reach the benchmark. The studio has had six consecutive movies earning over $100 million at the domestic box office in 2011.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is directed by Michael Bay, written by Ehren Kruger and produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce. The executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, Julie White with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

Now use that money to put a large dent in the nations debt. Imagine what could be done if all these billion dollar movies donated all it money it made to the economy. The economy could be save and we wouldn't have to worry about Satanic China foreclosing on America unlawfully and unconstitutionally.

Trust me bro i understand u completely i have had way too many issues with Hasbro including items not sold completely letting 3rd party companies sell separately what should have been included in the first place, as a DISH subscriber not having access to the HD channel of the Hub Channel because Hasbro didn't authorize them to launch it. They only let verizon fios get the hd channel which isn't fair. The expense of these toys r getting out of hand. Hasbro has only profits on their minds. The Transformers movies could have been made a lot better than they have. We the original G1 fans no when we have been had. Let me know if u feel the same way.

Wow. That's hardcore liberal thinking right there. It's not everyone else's job to pay for our leaders' stupidity with a checkbook. If they donated all that money, they would have thrown out millions of dollars on the movie for nothing. They're a business. Damn, you liberals come up with the STUPIDEST ideas sometimes.

Bingo.

Which is why toy prices have dropped by $2 or more on most DOTM items, right?

It had a head start in the theaters so yeah. I'm waiting for people to start tossing the "popularity doesn't mean it's good" arguement, as if it's supposed to make people change their minds.

*Note: I think it's worth bringing up that's the most bass ackwards economic logic I've ever heard.

We, [must of us] understood your grief. What didnt make sence is your claim that the sexual jokes and violence of the film surprised and shocked you.

A] their are examples of it in the first 2 films
B] the film was rated PG13

It's already a known fact that The Deathly Hallows hit a $BILLION$ on Sunday. I checked both on box office mojo on monday. HP was at something like $1,006,000,000, but TF was only at about $983,000,000. Beaten by two days. What a shame.

I do find it odd that in two days TF somehow made another $20 million or so when the weekend was already over. It would seem that they just didn't have all the numbers in yet. They may have been beaten by poor communication from the theater chains to the number crunchers.

I'm curious as to how it's making so much money. With criticism, RotF potentially leaving a bad taste in people's mouths, sequels not always doing as well, fair amount of competition, etc., what exactly is drawing in so many people? 3D would help recoup some loses, but DotM seems to be doing so well so effortlessly, which is pretty neat actually.
Do Transformers/Bay/Spielberg have that much brand power?

Doubtful. DotM is doing really well most likely to word of mouth, and perhaps even on Bay's promise to make up for the disaster that was RotF. DotM turned out to be the best of the 3 films in every way and a lot of people have gone to see it repeatedly. I will go see it for the 5th time tomorrow night. Haven't seen it in a couple of weeks. Having said that, I did see RotF in theaters 4 times, as I was very impressed by the visuals and the action. But by the time it came out on DVD, that wore off, and I was left with a total utter **** of a story.
