Decepticon Headquarters- The Enemy Within

Mount St. Helens - Decepticon HQ

Carefully carved into the side of Mt. St. Helens the Decepticon base serves as their fortress on Earth. Equipped with considerable defenses it is from this vantage point that the Decepticons launch their infiltration missions on Earth. The base is fully equipped with room for numerous Decepticons and facilities for creating the facsimiles that are key to their infiltration.

Command and Control - Soundwave

The situation was unfavorable, to be sure. But it was not yet unmanageable. It took him a mater of picoseconds to collate the information on their security breach and the ensuing sortie, and even less time to formulate an appropriate course of action. The first priority was to ensure the destruction of the Autobot spy. The breach itself was an issue, but it could wait for the moment.

Thundercracker's report of a an orbital bounce was confirmed by the fortress' sensors. This only made matters more complicated. The Autobots were precariously close to a Human city, If allowed to reach the Humans, the Autobots would be able to fade into the crowd of native vehicles. Worse still, the very eve of their triumph was not the time to break Protocol and alert the Humans to their presence. It was equally possible that the Autobots would simply attempt to retrieve their comrade and initiate a Bounce back to their base. But the clever Communications Officer had plans for that.

Soundwave mentally prioritized the required responses, and then began transmitting.

<"Alert: Thundercracker, Laserbeak. Autobots are within 8 kilometers of a Human population center. Terminate Jazz with extreme prejudice; he is the priority target. Warning: do not allow any of them to reach the native settlement. Violation of Infiltration Protocol will result in punitive action. Soundwave: Out.">

This was followed by an encrypted transmission to his Casseticions. It was time to implement a scenario he had prepared for such an eventuality in case matters went poorly today. Switching seamlessly from one channel to another, Soundwave addressed several Decepticons in turn.

"Acknowledged: Astrotrain. Maintain lockdown status. Let no one leave the base without personally verifying their authorization code."

<"Attention: Reflector. I require both the security and system logs, as well your analysis of the intrusion. You have four breems.">

"Blitzwing: You,Skywarp, Dirge, and Ramjet will establish a perimeter patrol immediately. Dismissed."

Having discharged his duty as XO, Soundwave turned to his erstwhile superior. "Action stations reported throughout the base, Starscream. Your orders?."

Command and Control

Blitzwing's hopes died as soon as he heard Soundwave's orders. This is stupid. If there was an autobot intruder, I could flatten him within astro seconds. He grumbled to himself as he walked out the door.

Base Outskirts

Blitzwing kept complaining to himself as he began his patrol in jet mode. What is he, dense? Is he stupid or something. Who the pit does he think I am? I'm the Primus-damned Blitzwing. he kept flying around the base, checking his radar to see if something to kil got in his range.Any time now... he kept hinking to himself.

Command and Control

Chin resting on the back of his fist, a much calmed Starscream watched with a small, ironic smirk as his monotone second-in-command issued instructions to the Decepticons stationed beneath the Terran volcano. It would have been difficult even for him to have said just at whom the expression was aimed; certainly, the situation abounded with absurdity. For a mechanoid such as himself, far more used to engaging the Autobots on the front lines where he could relish the glorious destruction he wrought firsthand, delegating to a subordinate didn't exactly come easily. Still, it was part of the burden of command, he supposed--until he was in a position to dictate what was appropriate conduct in a leader himself, at any rate.

And it was amusing to see Blitzwing stomping off so disconsolately to fly in circles around the headquarters for a few hours. The Triplechanger was a blunt intsturment, to be used sparingly and with discretion so long as the Infiltration Protocol remained in place. His bellicose urges could very easily be inflamed beyond all control, a fact of which Soundwave also appeared to be perfectly aware.

When the communications officer returned his attention to Starscream, the Seeker Commander waved his free hand. Base security appeared to be well in hand, and his original assessment of the strategic situation had not changed. "Commence the operation, Soundwave. I want the Washington city-state leveled before this wretched ball of mud completes another rotation."

Blitzwing kept complaining as he flew around the perimeter of the base. Suddenly, his silent gripes stopped as he checked his radar. It showed a few cybertronian signals. The surrounding forest and the distance made it tough to make out who was who, but Blitzwing had served in the war long enough to know what an autobot signal was. He radioed command.

Command and Control- Soundwave

Soundwave actually felt a measurable degree of irritation as he received Blitzwing's communique. The Triplechanger's attitude was far too typical of the Decepticons stationed on this backward world. This was a delicate operation. While the natives offered little to no threat, there was the matter of escalation to consider. If they applied too much force here, they risked drawing even more Autobots to this planet and turning Earth into a warzone.

While that notion may have been an inviting one to some Decepticons, Soundwave saw it for what it was: Inefficient. Plans orns in the making were at risk if they were not careful. Resources that could tip the balance of power would be squandered if open conflict ensued at this stage.

>>"Acknowledged:Blitzwing Permission: Denied. Hostiles are currently engaged. Resume course heading 557.2 by 226.1 and standby for further orders. Soundwave: Out."<<

A thought occurred to the meticulous communications officer as he concluded his transmission. Something had to be done to curtail the activities of their more combative subordinates. The Autobots would also be a problem with the operation in Washington. Perhaps one problem was the solution to another?

"Starscream," he stated, drawing his commander's attention. "Action is necessary to occupy our more volatile soldiers during this delicate stage."

He punched a few keys, bringing up a topographic display. "Designation: Falin, Alaska. Purpose of settlement: Petroleum harvesting. Population: 1,353. Distance to nearest neighboring Human settlement: 342 kilometers."

"I suggest a fuel raid. Standard procedures can be deployed to ensure that it is reported as an accident, and that there are no witnesses."

"Furthermore: Should the Autobots become aware of this raid, I believe the outcome would be beneficial. It would allow the troops to test themselves in actual battle conditions, and it would divide the Autobots attention, reducing the likelihood of their intervention in Washington considerably."

With a 'pop' Skywarp appeared just behind Blitzwing He had been flying in formation with Dirge and Ramjet and had become bored of their conehead chatter. The black and purple seeker cut his speed down to take a comfortable position at Blitzwing's wing. He noted the triplechanger's agitation at the assignment, and guessed at the further frustration due to Soundwave's denial to engage.

“I can't wait till this stage of procedure is over, and the slagging protocols end. I'm gonna be scraping fleshies off the bottoms of my feet every day if ya know what I mean. How bout you Blitzwing?”

Blitzwing nearly did a double-take a Soundwave's response. I can't support them? What, does he want them to get killed? Skywarp's arrival helped calm him down. In Blitzwing's mind, Skywarp was a mini-him. They both enjoyed murder and chaos, and they both had a sense of humor. Diference is, I'm not gonna get myself killed just for a few laughs at Megatron's expense. He resonded to the Seeker. "Tell me buddy. When we hit phase 5, I'm gonna take this world and turn it upside down. You'll se, I'll show ya. When I'm one, Lithone will look like a happy place by comparison!"

Of course, this was all talk. Blitzwing was running dangerously low on ideas for atrocities to commit, and he hoped for just enough time to come up with an idea before hopping to a phase 5. He had a few, but they were just leftover ideas for demoralizing and tourturing the prisoners from his brief stint as a guard on Garrus-9. Those ideas, of course, had violated the interplanetary code of combat, or conduct, or whatever the pit it was, and Blitzwing had been fired. Thankfully, the higher ups had recognized his skill as a warrior and moved him to the front lines, where his talents would be needed, rather than arrest, detain and execute him.

Ramjet chatted on inanely to occupy time and kill some of the boredom. Like many Decepticons flying around in circles was not his idea of fun. Remembering past battles was at least enough to keep from succumbing to boredom induced stasis-lock. Ramjet liked the earlier built Seeker well enough, and thought they were pretty good friends. Not as good as Thundercracker and Skywarp were, but pretty good nonetheless.

"Hey Skywarp. There was this one time, on Cybertron, where me an' Thrust were attacking an Autobot colony, and... Hey where'd you go?"

It took a moment to realize that he'd been talking to empty space. Left alone with Dirge, he took up position on the other conehead's wing and flew in silence. The Blue and Yellow Seeker creeped him out. He wasn't afraid of Dirge, for there was little that could scare Ramjet, but he'd seen his fellow Seeker do things that even made his energon run cold. The drone of Dirge's engines made him even edgier. Putting a few more feet of distance between them, Ramjet had trouble eluding the feeling that crept over him. If he didn't get some action soon. He was going to snap, and Dirge would likely end up being the target of his outburst.

Base Outskirts - On patrol

“This is a complete waste of my time!” Dirge thought as he was flying on Blitzwing’s tail. Why Soundwave has wasted four capable transformers on a routine look-out mission in the wilderness by the base while there was an Autobot spy on the loose exceeded him. Nevertheless, here they were, flying in circles with no creature to scare in the distance.

Then, as if his thoughts were answered, he noticed Ramjet closing on him. The crimson seeker flew closer still and for many seconds the only thing to be heard was Dirge’s engine, droning steadily. Dirge wasn’t sure about Ramjet; having been comrades on many battles, the crimson conehead seemed to be utterly fearless. Crushing into another transformer in full throttle, in mid-air no less, showed that Ramjet possessed some powerful circuits – or loose ones for that matter. Estimating the situation, Dirge came to realize that Ramjet was bored and knowing him only too well, that was his most dangerous condition. So, he decided to open a chit chat with the crimson conehead, a carefully planned maneuver to avoid any unpleasantness.

“Say Ramjet.” Dirge started, his voice processors as creepy and cold as his demeanor. “How do you recon? Will we see any Autoslag around here? I learned a new trick on my engine I am dying to try!”

Command and Control - Soundwave

As soon as Soundwave received Thundercracker's message, he activated the fortress's scanners. Thundercracker was indeed correct. The smoke from the fire would be clearly visible from Ranger station five. And while the duty roster for the park rangers showed that the patrolman for that area should have moved on to station six over two breems ago, it appeared he was running late. Because a radio transmission was being sent from station five, reporting a wildfire and several unidentified aircraft.

This was getting out of hand. Had they grown so lax that a few Autobots could cause so much chaos? Or were the rank and file simply so eager for battle that they had become a greater threat to their secrecy than the natives and the Autobots put together?

Whatever the case, action was necessary. It was time to tighten their hold on the surround. Soundwave jammed the human transmission with a thought, and cocked his head to the side, simultaneously initiating several conversations.

>>"Acknowledged: Thundercracker. Situation: Under control. Proceed with previous directive. Soundwave: Out."<<

"He cocked his head to the side as he switched channels. "Disclosure risk," he said aloud to Starscream. "Initiating countermeasures."

Opening another channel, he contacted the Combat Air Patrol. >>"Attention: CAP. Disclosure risk at Ranger station five. Capture the Human at Ranger station five intact, extinguish fire before further native attention is garnered. Soundwave: Out."<<

Ramjet heard Soundwave's transmission, mostly, as he was more concerned with keeping his distance from Dirge at the moment.

"Hey Blitzwing? Was he talking about us?"

Ramjet had assumed as much, since they were the only Decepticons out on patrol at the moment.

Capture a human and put out a fire? I didn't join this outfit to do community service.

Chacking his radar, Ramjet input the data on the coordinates and prepared to follow the formation to Ranger Station 5. His processors started to work on the problem of putting out the fire. He'd started plenty of fires in the past, but never had to put one out before. I suppose cluster bombs and ramming at full speed are out of the question.

Perhaps instead he'd focus on capturing the human, though he'd rather squish the fleshy and call it an accident. No human deserved to fly with Ramjet. Their fragile bodies underqualified them. He chuckled to himself at the thought. Maybe that's how their captive might meet his tragic end. Surely, no human could withstand a crash on the magnitude Ramjet was capable of.

"I'm calling the flesh creature. You guys worry about the fire. heh heh. Good luck."

"Yes, Ramjet, that was us he- Wait, get back here you dumb piece of slag!" Blitzwing's mood shifted from mocking to angry as soon as his subordinate broke formation. "Ramjet, As your superior, I ORDER you to get back in formation!" Ahhhh, authority. Where would I be without you? "Anyway," he said to the others, "If we're gonna do this, we need a plan. I was thinking I could lure the humans to a position where 'Warp could teleport down and grab them. Coneheads can take on the fire." Blitzwing knew Skywarp would go along with his plan. He'll be thrilled htat someone did his thinking for him. The coneheads would give him attitude, but in the end, they'd comply, fearing the punishment for insubordination and Blitzwing's already unpleaseant disposition.

Extinguishing… a fire? Soundwave had better be kidding! That’s not what I joined up for!, thought Dirge as he listened the mechanic voice of the Communications officer on the intercomm. Worse still, Blitzwing was giving the task completely to them Coneheads while Skywrap would grab the flesh creature. What an embarrassment that he, Dirge, would have to scare the slag of a fire rather an Autobot!

"Yes, Ramjet, that was us he- Wait, get back here you dumb piece of slag!" Blitzwing's mood shifted from mocking to angry as soon as his subordinate broke formation.

“Hey, Blitzwing, want me to bring him back in formation?” Dirge proposed, his voice ringing cold as death itself, all too eager to use his fear engine on someone at last; Dirge was certain sure there wouldn’t be a better opportunity to do so that day.

"Yeah go do that. And then move twords the fire. My advice: destroy the fuel. Keep me informed via radio. Oh, and one more thing. Do not engage any hostile unless I give permission," Blitzwing ordered Dirge. After all, he had a bigger, more important job. He began setting his plan into action. "'Warp,, follow me." Blitzwing realized at this point he was actually taking charge. It was a great feeling. Well, this explains a lot about Screamer. Then he considered the benifits. this job could prove to command he could handle a situation.

"Yeah go do that. And then move twords the fire. My advice: destroy the fuel. Keep me informed via radio. Oh, and one more thing. Do not engage any hostile unless I give permission," Blitzwing’s order rang clear in Dirge’s audio processors. At last, some fun!, the Conhead thought.

He inputted the coordinates as he was preparing to navigate towards Ranger Station 5.

“I hear you, Blitz. I wouldn’t worry about the fire too much; I know of a little crimson Decepticon who would be more than delighted to extinguish it when I am done with him! Good luck with the human; heh heh!”

Steadily building in strength, his engine roared with fury as he took off towards Ranger Station 5.

“Oh, Raaaaaaaaaamjeeeeeet! I am coming for you, Raaaaaaaaaamjeeeeeet!” the creepy voice of Dirge echoed as the Blue and Yellow Seeker took off to chastise the crimson Conhead.

Ramjet was confused he hadn't gone anywhere yet and Blitzwing was already shouting at him. That's what you get when you put tank treads on a jet. Normally Ramjet got on well with Blitzwing they employed similar combat strategy: hit the enemy head on and hard. It would be interesting to see how he handled a delicate task like capturing a human. Ramjet knew the human would probably die if he'd been allowed to go after it. Maybe Blitzwing was a bit smarter than he let on.

"Fine! Relax Blitzwing or I'll stuff your nosecone into your afterburners. Let's go Dirge. And knock that off, you're creeping me out!"

Ramjet flew off with his conehead wingman.

"How do you put a fire out any way?"

"Countermeasures," Starscream echoed dubiously. As much out of simple boredom as genuine curiosity the Seeker Commander had called up the holographic sensor display of the terrain surrounding the Decepticon base, his optics following the four bright blips that designated the Skywarp, the Coneheads, and the Triplechanger. He pressed a hand over his faceplate in exasperation as the elite forces under his command moved to deal with the situation with all the excess belligerence he would have expected. It was like using a fusion bomb on a Mini-Bot.

"How can it possibly require four of our most accomplished air warriors to secure one fleshbag and put out a fire? More to the point, how can they be doing such an abysmal job of it? It's not as if we're asking them to do anything as radical and out-of-character as think for more than two nano-seconds." His fingers drummed irritably against the arm of his elaborate throne. Why were mechanoids of greatness and vision forever doomed to be surrounded by those no more than a monosyllabic utterance removed from inert scrap metal? This was the question that haunted Starscream's rest cycles.

"To everything it's function, I supposed," he hissed at last in answer to his own largely rhetorical question. It wasn't as though he hadn't known that he was surrounded by idiots of truly staggering magnitude since the moment he'd first arrived on this spinning mass of dirt. "Never mind. If they manage to bumble their way through their present mission with some measurable level of success, Soundwave, send them on that fuel raid you mentioned before. That should keep them out of trouble. And out of my sight."

Starscream considered for a moment, then added, "And make sure that Blitzwing knows if anything goes wrong, it's his chassis I'm going to have crushed down into a cube and placed in front of my throne as a footrest. I don't want anything to distract from my enjoyment of today's feature presentation."

Skywarp grinned internally at Blitzwing’s comment about his future intentions for the planet. Warp had just missed the beginnings of Ramjet’s story which wasn’t uncommon for his short attention span. It was just as well because without a pause Soundwave’s transmission cut through his com system.

“Capture the human alive? Primus doesn’t he have enough pets already? Laserbeak and ravage will be jealous.”

Ramjet readily volunteered to snatch the human …… that wasn’t good. It was more likely the red winged seeker would kill it. Then Blitzwing spoke up assigning Warp the task of Human Trapper.

“Sure Blitz I can do that but uh…… Does that mean I have to put it in my cockpit?”

Warp mulled over the thought of the nasty little fleshy squirming around inside him.

"Well, it depends," Blitzwing replied. "You want it? 'Cause if not, just toss it to me when we're near base." Blitzwing gave a massive grin. He couldn't wait for the chance to push this new meatbag to its limits. Wether he shocked or offended it, he would still get a kick out of its reaction. He turned his attention back to Skywarp. "I need you go get to where nobody can see you, but can get here in one hop. 'k? I'll tell you when to hop to my position. Move out." Blitzwing broke formation and headed towards the ground, transforming into tank mode and moving to Ranger Station 5. Getting the meatbag into his clutches would be easy...

Astrotrain continued to man his station but was trying to hide a smirk. Blitzwing wasn’t exactly dazzling anyone on this mission. It didn’t really surprise him though. The other triplechanger was good at missions that involved smashing things or fighting Autobots. Flying patrols or putting out fires were definitely not things he was best suited for. He would have to make fun of him when he got back for this whole mission when he got back.

It wasn’t that he didn’t like the other triplechanger. It would be more of a friendly ribbing. There was a little more to it than that though. He was hoping that if Starscream saw how badly Blitzwing did on this mission then maybe he could be put on more missions. Sure, catching humans and putting out fires didn’t exactly excite him either, but compared to being stuck inside the base anything was preferable. At the very least he would have the fire put out quickly. With his storage capacity he could just scoop up some water and dump it on the flames. The Decepticon let out a quiet sigh. Maybe next time.

Apparently Dirge was playing the silent type again. Ramjet hated getting the silent treatment. When he asks a question he expects an answer. Adding to his growing ire was the fact that Dirge wouldn't knock off the drone of his engines. Ramjet was mere microns away from snapping at his wingman's antics. If it weren't for the task at hand, he'd he'd have run Dirge into the dirt already.

"Alright Dirge. I'll do it my way then."

Ramjet accelerated ahead of Dirge nearly clipping the tip of his wing as he passed him, well aware that he was by far tougher than his conehead comrade. As he approached the growing blaze, he was still trying to figure out how to stop the spreading flames. He didn't have any tools to put fire out. Even though he wasn't the smartest of the Decepticons, he was fully aware of the capabilities of all his armaments and last time he checked cluster bombs typically start fires.

Slag! If only the stupid trees weren't here, then we wouldn't have this fire to deal with. What do humans need these forests for anyway!

His patience finally wearing, he needed to ram some this to cool off. Accelerating to his full speed he aimed himself low over the rising flames.

"Take this! You slagging organic garbage!"

Ramjet crashed at top speed into the forest, redwoods and pines snapping like twigs in his path. As he came to rest on the ground he transformed and looked back at his handiwork, clearly pleased with the destruction he had caused. He had cleared a swath in the forest the width of his wingspan and nearly 200 meters long.

"Heh! See that Dirge? A couple of trees can't stand up to me."

He picked up a fallen tree and tossed it to the side.

"Still, How are we going to put out this fire?"

Thrust entered the main command center after a routine patrol. It was simple patrol, up and down the Alaskan pipeline. The only bothersome task of all this was he was ORDERED by his supriors to not excced Mach .5. Mach point five...a disgusting crawl to one with the speed of Thrust.

Still, it was enough of a distance for him to refuel upon returning. Thrust viewed the monitor and saw the recent excitement. He thought to himself:

"Hmmm...this is a situation that will require some delicacy and be completed in an expedeint matter. Surely my talents, and the fastest engines in the Decepticon army can be useful."

Thrust turned to the comm officer Soundwave and then to the overall commander, Starscream,

"How may I lend a hand to our BUNGLING forces other there. Surely I can have the human here and that fire doused before you reporcess an optic!"

Skywarp grimaced internally at Blitzwing's 'orders'. The Triplechanger had sure forgotten who was in charge here real quick. Warp wasn't the type to throw his rank around, but he'd worked very hard to earn the stripes that adorned his wings. So he wasn't overly fond of having his position taken for granted.

"I got this, Blitz," he said as he transformed. "I'll snag the meatbag. You get that fire out before Ramjet takes out the whole forest!"

Skywarp vanished with a pop and a swirl of energon, reappearing near the ranger station. The Human was trying to make a run for it, but he hadn't been prepared for the much larger Seeker's sudden arrival. Warp grabbed up the flesh creature, tossing him in his cockpit.

"I got it!" he informed the others. "I'm takin' him back to Soundwave. See you guys on the other side!" With another pop, Skywarp was gone.

Ramjet's central processor worked slowly on tasks that weren't related to combat. Whether that was by design or not was difficult to say. Certainly, things unrelated to wreaking havoc held little interest for him. Perhaps that was why sometimes obvious solutions were slow to come to him. However, as he watched the forest fire burn he eventually noticed that the swath of trees he cleared was the only area not set ablaze.

"I got it!" He vocalized to no one in particular. "The fire can't keep burning if it has nothing to burn!"

He took to the sky once more and transformed into his delta wing jet form. At least he would enjoy this. He accelerated and put himself on a trajectory parallel to the edge of the burning forest. As he had done before he dropped himself into the trees and watched as the redwoods, pines, and oaks splintered before him. He kicked in his afterburners to help him maintain his speed as he crashed along following the circumference of the fire.

Once completed, he transformed and hovered mid-air to admire his handiwork. All that was left was to clear away some of the fallen trees so the fire wouldn't spread. He looked around to see if he was going to get any help, then headed to the ground and started slinging trees out of the way of the inferno. This part of the task was not enjoyable in any way. He grumbled as he worked, but nonetheless the work got done. Before long he had a path cleared all the way around the fire to stop the spread. All that was left was to let it burn itself out, which judging by the receeding flames wouldn't be long.

Ramjet opened a communications channel to headquarters. He wanted to make sure he got all the credit for getting the work done.

>>Ramjet to Soundwave. The fire is contained, no thanks to Dirge or Blitzwing. I think they took a break, leaving me to do all the heavy lifting. I'm coming back to base. I need to refuel and hammer out a few dents in my nosecone. Let the others finish putting out the fire.<<

Taking to the sky and heading for base, Ramjet chuckled to himself. Too bad they missed the fun. And now they're gonna get it. Better them than me though. Serves Dirge right for trying to creep me out. I'll be ready for when a real fight comes up and they'll probably be pulling down duty taking Ravage for a walk.

Ramjet laughed all the way home.

Blitzwing was... annoyed. He layed out a master plan for capturing the human, and Skywarp completly one-upped him. I guess I can have my moment with the organic later. In the mean time, he had to report back. He transformed into jet mode and flew back, contacting Skywarp by a private radio frequency. <<Hey 'Warp. If you put the organic in Ramjet's quarters, I'll give you some of my rations tomorrow.>> If he couldn't take the glory of leading the operation, then he would just have to get a few laughs when Ramjet would squeal like a protoform after finding an organic sliming up all his belongings.

Ah, the natives. Were would I be without you? From hiding them in his adversaries' quarters to daring his freinds to eat them, native animals were one of Blitzwing's favorite things about the war. When he arrived, he would expirement with the natvie lifeforms. See what they held sacred, then destroy it. See what the had the most confidence in, and destroy that, too. Sadly, Soundwave, his least favorite CO, had forbid him from making any contact whatsoever with the locals, so humans were a mystery to him at this point. He seems intent on keeping me on a leash, but why? Blitzwing had proved himself time and time again at Lithone, and the Tau Ceti system. What else did he have to do to have a genocide?
