It takes some elements from both the old cartoons and Marvel comics, but rejects others in favor of what the toys said about each of the characters. Read the character bios in TF:More than Meets the Eye for Grimlock and the other Dinobots. They don?t mention anything about Wheeljack building them, nor of them being built on Earth. They came from Cybertron and had Cybertronian forms. Originally, they went by the name Dynabots as in Dynamite.
