Decepticon Scout "LOCUST" - DOTM Deluxe Bumblebee repaint

This was a fun project! Got a DOTM Deluxe Bumblebee pretty cheap a long time ago, and decided to turn him in to something .......... else.

I felt like Bumblebee needed a Decepticon counterpart. One who was also a 'scout', but for a very different reason. So, in addition to completely repainting the guy, I also gave him a bit of a backstory to give the character a bit more personality.

Hope you enjoy!

Decepticon Scout - Locust
:CON:

"Wherever I go, I leave only ashes."

The war on Cybertron devastated the planets once rich sources of energy. Faced with no other option, the Decepticons sent their finest scouts to hunt the far reaches of space for other worlds containing energy sources that could be used to fuel the Decepticon war effort. Few of these scouts ever returned from their dangerous missions, but Locust quickly gained notoriety for being the most successful. Countless worlds have been bled dry following their discovery by this Decepticon, with no energy sources escaping his detection.

Locust's resourcefulness and value to the Decepticon cause have not gone unnoticed by Megatron. He is one of the few Decepticons to be openly praised by their leader, and as a result has become exceptionally vain. He believes himself to be indispensable, and ensures that the other Decepticons know it.

Armed with twin flechette rifles, Locust is capable of producing withering fire at a tremendous rate that simply tears enemies to shreds. However, due to the rapid fire of his weapons, and the small size of the flechette rounds, his effective range is much more limited than most other Decepticons. This suits Locust just fine, as he relishes an up-close look at his foes as they are torn to pieces.

Very nice work. I like the guns too, it definitely gives him a 'Seeker' kinda feel to him (Bayverse Waspinator perhaps :P?).

Thanks, I definitely took the inspiration for the twin guns from the Seekers.

And if I see a green, badass, Decepticon musclecar in TF4, I'll be asking for my royalty cash promptly. :-?

Nice job! Funny how movieverse Bee seems to look so badass as a Decepticon.

Humble suggestion: you might want to mask an spray paint the white "racing stripes" on the roof for a neater finish.

Yeah, I definitely did not do a perfect job on the stripes. The masking I used didn't really adhere to the surface very well, so there was some seepage. Will probably touch it up to make it perfectly straight.

Might just take your advice and switch to spray to get them nice and clean.

Thanks!

Glad to exchange notes with a fellow customizer, although I've yet to do a full repaint of an single TF (I usually build Gundam and Armored Core kits, and do only simple touch ups for my TF's).

Now this is my personal opinion, but I think masking wouldn't really work when hand-brushing, since the thickness of the paint will get sucked underneath the tape--something about the tape creating a vacuum or something.

Anyways, light coats of paint on masked areas are the best way to go, preferably with an airbrush--airbrushes emit a much finer mist of paint compared to spray cans, which in turn result in a lighter coat of paint. It's not 100% guaranteed, though, since there have been known to be paint seepage even amongst AB users. That said, it's considerably more effective than hand-brushing.
