Decepticon ships

I don't think this has been adressed yet, so...

Whats the general opinion regarding the 1 man Decepticon gunships? Like the one Optimus shot down when the Autobots made their return. I personally found them to be abit silly and redundant. Why are robots who can transform into jets, cars, and tanks flying around in other vehicles?

Because they want to. If they get shot down in those, they can always get out and then fly. It's like an extra layer of armor.

Why walk when you can use a vehicle?

Interesting theory Sly.

I would also say that these ships pack a bit extra fire power than your standard decepticon hand gun.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing that not all Decepticons can fly. Also, maybe those ships are better armed or just have more powerful weapons.

I'd run with this one. Extra armor.

One thing I do not like about Bayformers are how fragile they seem at times. Parts flying off and what not. You would think there would be more armless or limbless or even just damaged transformers at that rate. The Cybertron scene in DOTM showed just a lot of fighting. So..... why are not more damaged?

So, i'd say this must be more armor and require less energy to use. Even the G-1 cons used a ship, especially after the G1 movie.

And in the original G1 comics, some Autobots were using hoversleds during the battle with Unicron. TFs using vehicles have always been around since the beginning.

Not every Cybertronian is Omega Supreme, ya know. Some of them need extra fire-power and armor, these ships provide that.

I confess that I assumed that the Decepticons manning those smaller ships were mostly drones of some sort whose technology and structure were too simple to enable them to transform. Cannon fodder guys, in short.

If the pilot was someone I knew for sure was a bonafide Transformer, like Bumblebee, I guess my assumption was that they wouldn't transform into flying craft themselves for the same reason that...they don't usually. (To be honest, based strictly on what I've seen in the movies, I've never quite understood this aspect of their being...why some of them seem stuck with one alternate form whereas others can switch from form to form almost at will. Maybe innate design/programming restrictions according to type...(?))

Some of those transformers didn't seem to be on Earth long enough to scan for an alt mode. Most of them 'ported in and went straight to work laying waste to everything. The scene where they did scan and transform were the ones assigned to reaching far places of Earth to set up batteries (or whatever they were called, I forget).

As mentioned before, Transformers using ships that didn't transform is nothing new to the live-action movies. The original Ark didn't transform, and neither did the Nemesis.

Pillars. But not all the cons with alt modes went around the world, I saw many in Chicago, notably a Chevy Silverado, and that green dump truck one. I suppose the only reason an alt mode was necessary was for a surprise attack, which I didn't really see...

Well you need more firepower to devastate a major city and kill most of it's inhabitants. also, what they said.

Why did a Decepticon ship, piloted by a very large robot have a hatch that a human could open and was just the right size for her (Carly) to emerege from?

I think this was the only one they actually made for that scene. (the rest are probably CGI) and nobody thought about it honestly. Or didn't want to /think it was important to fix it. Lazyness perhaps?
