Denatured Alcohol: A good paint remover?

Has anybody ever used Denatured Alcohol to remove the original paint from any kind of Transformers figure?
If so, can it remove the paint without damaging the plastic itself?

While I haven't tried it specifically on transformers, i use 91 isopropyl to take paint off model trains and it works wonders, providing its factory paint and or not an enamel. Never damaged a train shell doing it that way, a day or to to soak, come back and check in on it after work.
Do be sure to wash the shell THROUGLY before painting though
The problem with our TFs is that most figures are going to be cast plastic. Stripping Cliffy from the Prime RID line for example will take off his face and grill, but he's still gonna be a red lump of plastic. If its a diecast G1 figure your aiming for, then you'd be in better luck, as would the Alternator figures. Not perfect, but better. And it would most likely remove the paint apps, but is it worth the trouble if you'd have to primer the figure anyway because of the base plastic? (and primering is good, regardless)
Edit: adding the RID line in on the list of painted figures. I remember seeing oaint scraped off my XBrawn... Made me sad...
