Did you sell or stop buying some 3rd party combiners. Due to HasTak's CW Combiners?

Do you love your new Hercules set? Can't get enough of FansProject's items? Upset that you bought a knock off when you thought you were getting an original? Use this forum to tell everyone your thoughts about unlicensed and knock off TF products.

I will be buying every single CW figure (only one I'm iffy about is Devy). Will they be my definitive combiners on the shelf? Some maybe.

Hercules will probably never be replaced. He's the exact size I want him to be, exact aesthetics, I love him. Only thing (IMO) CW Devy has going for him is the fun factor that that line has brought so far.

My Bruticus is Energon + FP. I really love him especially after how much work I put into acquiring the specific pieces I wanted. But he's just a smidge shorter than I'd like, and I think there's a decent chance of CW bringing something amazing enough to replace him.

Intimidator is my Menasor. And while I always liked the CW version, I didn't even consider him as a replacement. But I'll be damned is those upgrade kits don't look fantastic. I most likely will keep M3, but he wouldn't even be on my radar after seeing those upgrade kits.

Quantron I feel will be much harder to top. While he still has that "ugh.. so deilicate" feel to him, but he's just aesthetically pleasing that I don't care. I'm perfectly fine with carefully posing him, standing back, and drooling in awe. But who knows. Hasbutron + upgrades could be outstanding, the Menasor scenario all over again.

My Superion is CW. It's terrific. And it'll be even better with upgrades. I never bought into Uranos, I thought he was to busy and large.

I started buying TFC's Predaking which I plan to complete still regardless of CW.

Defensor is still a toss up. I'm so in love with CW's, proper groove be damned. But MK's (Guardia?) looks amazing as well. That will have to be a game time decision. Luckily 3P combiner type stuff doesn't sell out immediately.

So, that's what shajaki currently thinks of the state of Combiners ;)

Proportions seem quite off on these CW figures. Despite PE's efforts to improve on some of the proportions, I am still not convinced. On the other hand, I am totally stoked that combiners are making a comeback for HasTak. However, HasTak should have just stuck with the "traditional" teams instead of making characters like Optimus Prime and Cyclonus combine as well. I understand that said characters are repaints/retools of Menasor and Silverbolt, but (as someone who likes collecting Optimus Prime) CW Optimus is totally not doing it for me. In other words, HasTak could have done away with the combining "mechanisms" on Optimus Prime. Eh, just my two cents.

So, to prove the point that CW combiners have not deterred me from purchasing 3pc combiners, today I went ahead and purchased Quantron from tfsource. I know, I know, HasTak hasn't released a Computron YET. However, I am not using Quantron as Computron, but I am using him as my interpretation of Nexus Prime. Therefore, any combiner could have potentially been used (by me) as Nexus Prime. I just feel that the individual bots of Quantron look great, and the combined form does not suffer from too many setbacks.

I'm ready to take a break from buying 3rdp only figures i'm just tired of pulling out a chunk of change everytime i want to buy a figure , so i will finish warbotron and ordin and i'm done for a while .

I dont want to say its because of CW as ive thougt about this for some time now and i enjoy the idea of going back to has/tak with cheap fun figures , i guess its easy to get blinded by wanting the best out there .

CW however is something i dont actually want to miss out on its the first time since the 80s we can collect what could be all of the G1 combiners from hasbro again and now im out of my 3rdp bubble i see how amazing this line is flaws and all , especially takaras paint jobs which is the route im going .

i even like the RID aesthetic and will be picking a couple up to try out .

I've been drastically cutting back on my 3rd Party purchases. I've always seen them as supplementary to Hasbro products rather than ends in and of themselves, and with all the great product vying for my dollars, I tend to allocate more heavily towards the official side of the hobby.

On Combiners, it's hard for me see folks say M3 is the 'definitive' or 'best' representation of Menasor over CW Menasor. That's always going to be a personal choice, and people rarely note that, because we are talking combiners, there are 3 angles to consider that from.

I'm probably going to sell my M3. From a robot and vehicle mode perspective, I'm all about the Combiner Wars figures over FP's. The CW Stunticons are toyetic as well as fun & easy to transform. On combined mode, M3 is nicer overall, but he's more or less a statue to me - he's been combined ever since I got him.

I didn't think I'd be selling my 3rd Party combiners, but at the end of the day, I tend to like Hasbro's individual robots much better, articulation be damned, and doing the math, I would rather have 2 really good Combiner Wars gestalts with PE upgrades over 1 superb 3rd Party gestalt for the same price.

Pretty much agree with everything you said here. Not looking to build the ultimate TF G1 Update collecting buying all 3rd party TF toys.

Only willing to buy the 3rd party TF toys that that I like and HasTak doesn't make.

Got budgets and more important things to buy than just toys.

Refuse to be a completist and buy toys or characters I don't like.

Think HasTak's CW toys are fine enough. Not willing to spend over $500 to complete a 3rd party combiner. Rather spend $90 to complete a Hasbro USA CW gestalt.

I just cannot feel the same way about the CW Menasor.... fun toys and really good in both modes but I hate how it looks combine.

CW Superion on the other hand is awesome.

I'm of a different school of thought on Menasor.

FP's looks amazing. But he suffers from the same "not fun" kinda thing that every 3P combiner has going for it. But after seeing the upgrades for Hasasor, hindsight is 20/20. I would totally have gone for Hasasor+upgrades over FP's offering. I'm even considering selling my Intimidator if only to fund future MP purchases....

I mean... a combiner looking like this and still being play friendly? Easy win.

That PE addon really does look superb. I should probably pre-order it, except I have an irrational fear of pre-orders...

Why is that? Most places have simple cancellations before they're in stock, while BBTS is completely hassle free in being that you can cancel even after it's arrived.

I don't know. It doesn't help that if I did preorder everything I wanted I'd have no money left. I'm a compulsive spender. Also I don't actually have any of the Stunticons yet...

I getcha. Good thing about 3P stuff though is they don't go out of stock in the blink of an eye (most of the time).
