The great question: After the slag Clone Wars-era, will Disney use the Expanded Universe, or walk their own path to the future of Star Wars?

A friend of mine just texted me about this..

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/bus ... m/1669739/

Following the release of Episode 7 in 2015, "our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years," Iger said in the statement.

Lucas will be a "creative consultant" only on the new films. Good or bad?

I, for 1, am looking forward to the new films, just to see where the story is going. I have no idea, I've never been a fan past the movies.

Honestly, at this stage all I can think of is "meh"

I guess that's what the most recent trilogy has done for me, although the CGI animated series is turning out better than I expected.

I really hope they don't disregard the expanded universe. Cause if they do I'll feel like I wasted so much money and I doubt I'll ever see the new films.

On the main note though bring on the ISD Chimera.

Same. Started buying the books in 1995 and have pretty much all the post-ROTJ expanded universe books.

Wouldn't surprise me though if they disregard them. Be majorly disappointed though as there's some brilliant stories out there.

Come on Barbara Hamblin stories ... /sarcasm

Disney bought Marvel, then immediately declared their hands-off approach. Then the Avengers happened. So I've got high hopes.

Rodimus Prime wrote:Lucas will be a "creative consultant" only on the new films. Good or bad?

Good. It means he can keep his universe in one piece without having any direct involvement in the story.

Time will tell I suppose.

The article on cnn stated that they were going to look at some of the obscure characters. So who do you guys want to have their own movie? Me I'd like Boba Fett, Wedge Antilles, and a unit story for the 501st.

That's cool, I guess. Doesn't really seem like there "needs" to be more movies, but when does it ever?

As one of our fellow staff members said in e-mail ... what will the future hold for comic license with Dark Horse?

With Marvel already under the Disney banner, when the license is up ... will Dark Horse be able to retain it or will they move it "in house"?

I like this. Disney is the perfect studio to take on Lucasfilm and Star Wars. I see 1-6 as the Skywalker saga. It is Anakin Skywalker's rise, fall and redemption story. 7-9 don't need to feature those characters. The universe is a big place. I'm glad that while Lucas is no longer in control, he will continue to have input. It will keep it Star Wars. You have to look at other companies that Disney own that are doing amazingly well. ESPN, ABC and Marvel and doing wonders. Just look what Disney and Marvel did with the Avengers. Where is the worry that I have been seeing on Facebook and Star Wars sites. I hope they don't over saturate the franchise though. Lucas' plan for 12 movies sounds more than enough. This isn't James Bond here.

This! This this this! All of this! I have heard a lot of people complaining, saying this will either kill the franchise or that the franchise is already dead. Apparently none of those people saw the Avengers. Or Pirates of the Caribbean, or Tron, or any of the other amazing movies Disney has made that aren't strictly G-Rated kids movies.

Finding this out today is alot like finding out that lump on your balls IS cancer and you only have about 6 months left to live

Lucas crapped up on the prequal 2 movies but episode 3 was good...well aside from the 40minutes of footage that the fat turd had removed (ffs george why remove 40seconds showing yoda land on degoba?) and the other scenes such as anakin killing the other jedi that was kidnaped by grevious (again cut...thanks george....)

But DISNEY making more star wars movies?....ffs we all know whats coming here - a new RUSHED movie in 2 years time which will basically be full of annoying pedo disney characters like goofy or basically a WHOLE movie dedicated to JARJAR to help sell star wars to younger kids or even worse - a rushed movie that makes sod all sense and thats clearly been done as a sell out

I would like to see Mark Hamell (luke skywalker) back in the star wars movies because that fat turd george lucas basically did screw him over so it would be nice to see mark back in action. However considering how he has become over the years im guessing disney will have to pay him something like 2 million to just be in the movie

Why make more movies anyway? ffs after episode 6 its kinda downhill from there. In short luke remakes the jedi council but the new jedi are crap aside from afew / the empire has split up into fractions but the rebels still fight them / luke skywalker gets a clone of himself made called....luke skywalker.....and aside from that not much else really

George lucas must have been laughing himself all the way to the bank selling this to disney and now just like everything else disney touch its going to be ruined. Disney are nothing more than a cancer these days infecting anything and everything they touch from Final Fantasy to Transformers and anything else. Seeing cloud with mickey mouse and mickey acting like a bad ass......ffs NO DISNEY NO!
Kingdom Hearts might as well have just been called Pedophile Dreams the way disney crapped over everything and just took a giant turd on the characters we cared about and now disney want to ruin star wars??

I can see it now

STAR WARS A DISNEY PRODUCTION
Luke skywalker - hey han how have you been?
Han Solo - hi luke ive got someone i want you to meet
JarJar and his annoying twin children and family - WE SA GONA BE WITH YOU ALL THREW 3 HOUR MOVIE LUKE - WE SA GONA BE ANNOYING AS WE CAN

I can gaurentee that this being a disney thing now that in 3-4 years time we WILL see movie called Star Wars Kids or something which has luke skywalkers+han+Chewys+Jarjars kids etc all doing a childish adventure

Today i just died alittle inside knowing a franchise i cared about is about to get a whole load crap thrown at it

So, did you read my last post, then wrote your own giant wall of vitriolic text just to spite me, or do you actually believe that? The former, fine, but the latter? If you honestly believe Disney only does kids movies, do us all a favor and go back to the rock you've been living under since the '70s. Or better yet, grab a DVD of the Avengers.

the avengers wasnt THAT great a movie - for simple minded people then yes its fantastic. The bit were the hulk buggers off for a long period of time and then comes back and yet somehow knows everything thats happened since him being away is my fav part......

Or the other parts such as iron man being slammed into a cab and then standing up...and the cab just vanishing. or perhaps capt america being shot near the end but then later on his damage to his costume has vanished...or perhaps the bit with the magical punching bag thats got duct tape on in 1 scene and then vanishes only to return in the next 2 shots.

Yes the avengers is fantastic for simple minded people who love movies such as michael bays work - IE no actual script just loads of explosions and beef cakes and sexy hour glass women in tight fitting clothes...but no actual plot and loads of mistakes threw the entire film

And yes telling me to go under a rock from the 70s? how nice....start a flame war because you cant think of anything else to write

Sorry i just like decent films which are written better than - BANG BOOM BANG! MORE EXPLOSIONS. Off top of my head something like Downfall which has to be 1 of the best ww2 films of all time because it doesnt just show a bunch of american hillbillys going on about how great america is. It actually shows the truth while also being a great war film because it makes you feel uneasy and shows how horrible the war really was....unlike saving private ryan which was done by spielberg.....which then turned into how great america is and how evil the germans are etc etc

I watched star wars episode 4 when it was first shown at cinemas and over the years i cared about it alot. Episode 1 was terrible and 2 was only ok half way threw. Episode 3 was good aside from the love scenes but we all know disney will crap on the star wars universe. We should sticky this thread because i KNOW in 3-4 years time we WILL see the star wars kids movie with the children of the original crew doing some pointless crappy adventure

Yeah, I loved that part. Especially since it never happened in the movie. Banner doesn't say anything about knowing what happened since Hulk was tossed out of the Helicarrier, and Hulk...well, he doesn't talk much. If you're going to complain about perceived flaws in a movie (What you're talking about are small graphical mistakes, hardly the mark of terrible film making) then maybe you should watch the movie first.

Except the EU has been doing that for a while now. Like, since the Yuuzhan Vong, at least.

I'm going to go ahead and ignore you now. Having read your previous posts, I probably should have done that sooner. Come back when you can make a post that isn't vitriolic drivel.

sorry but avengers isnt a great movie. Its ok if you like nothing but loud noises and explosions. some of us perfer movies with actual plots and not full of mistakes

how can you say the hulk bit didnt happen? he just bugged off and then when he came back he just seemed to know what had happened while he was away...and yet your saying i havent seen the film when i clearly know that scene? wow its almost like a mess up from the movie itself

Well before the Vong. Jaina and Jacen were central in the books from pretty much the age they could walk. Admittedly it was the books aimed solely at kids and not the main novels, but even then they've always had roles in those books from young kids through to adulthood.

And we both know you're not going to ignore him.

Yeah, I looked it up after posting. Jacen and Jaina have been in the EU since before they were born, and were actually born during the Thrawn Trilogy, and Anakin Solo appeared way back in Dark Empire.

Eh. I have no need to argue with someone who adamantly declares he knows the plot details of a movie he's never seen. Might as well go argue with a cat, at least the cat can bring up a valid point.

Plus they purr when you pet them.

The more I think about this the more I want the x wing series to be what they start with.

Star Wars discussions on a TF forum. Would there be any other way to end this than RUINED FOREVER?

It was actually somewhere between "I don't care" and "Hey, this might actually work!" Swindle01 was the first to declare RUINED FOREVER and even that required him to ignore everything Disney has been doing for the past decade.
