That nostaligia/guy with glasses clip was hilarious. I'm pretty sure on Voltron and he-man, but not as sure on Thundercats. If the new cartoon is being received well, which i think it has been, then movie plans will accelerate.

*AHEM*
Back on topic here.
I Am and am not a G1 Hater.
I Liked season one for what it was. It was simply put, an old cartoon.
Season two, however, was just great! I mean WOW! There was so much to take from it! So much was built on it, you felt like it would never end. Then the movie came out.
:-(
Don't get me wrong. I loved that film. It introduced us to Unicron and Ultra Magnus. It was something else. When Optimus Died, I was so sad, and When Megatron came back, I thought "well that's not fair at all! Were's optimus primes return?" At the end of the movie, I thought to myself, I know for a fact that he comes back in Season 3.
Great Primus, SEASON 3.
It builds off the space story from the movie and completely discredits everything that happened in season 2! Most of the best autobots were dead and were never to return! The animation and errors are terrable! I Say ARE because, well... It's so bad, that I havn't finished it yet...
I'll push through it, that way I can be one of those guys that can say "Yeah, I watched G1, what of it?"
But I gotta say, season two is were it should have stayed.

I grew up on the beast era, yet I love ALL of the different story lines of Transformers (and yes, that does include Transformers animated).
So, in short, I myself just love the G1 line.

I loved G1 as a kid, but these days I'm so sick of hearing "MoAr GeEewuN!" that it's given me a negative opinion about it. There's always someone who just can't let people enjoy the other series like Beast Wars, Animated, or the movies. I'd like to remember it as that cartoon I loved when I was 4 or 5 and leave it at that. But because it's been shoved down my throat so much it's starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't experience that feeling outside of the live-action movie forum (insert bitter-joke smilie here). Maybe it's because I grewup on it and TF's are synonimus with G1 to me.

Yea in with BeastProwl on this, loved g1 up until season 3. Sorry but season 3 made me so mad as I watched it. There were some cool parts/characters,but majority of my favorite episodes and memories were from season 2.

Now in gonna go and hide from the approaching die-hard season 3 fans

While G1 is very dear to me, and will always have a place in my heart (Jeeze, I sound like I'm breaking up with G1 here...), I kinda agree with the guy who said he wishes that Hasbro/Takara would stop reissuing G1 stuff and concentrate more on better new versions of old characters. I like my old G1 toys, but I LOVE the newer Generations figures.

And I have to say, I think my favorite version of the G1 characters has to be the modern day comics. The art is just amazing, and it's so cool to see really nicely drawn versions of the all my favorites. Admittedly, I think the old comics had better one-off stories, but overall the quality of the newer comics puts it on top for me.

Wow, this old thread. Stumbled in here because I was getting a zillion e-mails courtesy of the Seibertron.com Problem Reporting Thread. Nice to see everyone.

Anyway, hating G1 is like hating your ancestry. Who does that? "Good job" if you hate G1.

Well, what if one's ancestry consisted of murderers, criminals, villains, and utterly wicked and disgraceful people?

You think Brainiac 5 is proud of his heritage, being descended from one of Superman's greatest enemies?

Not saying that G1 was evil. Just providing an example of how something good can come from something bad.

I'm not a G1 hater, but I don't LIKE it much.

I have all my G1 toys and I grew up reading the comics (which, sadly, have been lost) but I didn't have access to the cartoons. When I watched them a few years ago I found the cartoon to be rather awful. With a poor cartoon and poor toys that didn't evolve much between 82 and 88 I find it hard to understand why it's revered so much but I do appreciate its place in toy history and my personal history.

I'm not a G1 hater but I do think that most things post-G1 are an improvement, except the AEC cartoon.

82? The toys/comics/show didn't begin until 84.

Though, 88 was when the cartoon's fifth season aired and ended, the toys lasted 'til 1990 (in the U.S.), and the comics went until 1991.

I guess Mykltron's referring to the moulds pre-dating the tf franchise by a couple of years. Personally though, i think the toys changed dramatically during and after the movie. Not necessarily for the better in most cases, but if you compare a figure like slugslinger to, say starscream the aesthetics and technology are poles apart. Slugslinger is still my fave g1 figure!

Not a perfectly clear sentence structure, it seems! The G1 cartoon was poor. The toys didn't evolve between 82 (Diaclone, Microman) and the end of G1 - whenever that was.

Toyline-wise, that would be 1990 (for the U.S. more toys were made until 1992 in Europe and Japan).

Ouch. If the G1 cartoon was so "poor" - TF in general would've washed up & disappeared long ago. (You can tell he's a Go Bot fan :P ) We're on the brink of the 30 year anniversary!!

Well, by today's standard, yes, it would be viewed as poor (especially with AKOM's low level of quality control).

But by 1980's standards, however, it was cutting edge, top of the line, best of the best they had to offer. Grade A material for the time.

Then again, I guess that shows just how far standards have come since then. :P

With the exception of a few episodes and the movie, the G1 cartoon was poor, imo. I was hooked on Transformers because of the toys and the UK comics. The cartoon has little to do with the enduring popularity of transformers in my eyes.

The music's still great, even by today's standards. The "mistakes" (color/wrong character talking) are what make it endearing.

The music is more than great; it's iconic. And that's not just the theme. The pure CGI shows and the cutesiness of Animated are kind of like drum machines: they don't have a soul. I Googled TF Animiated and the first clickable episode I got was "Along Came a Spider", a whole episode about putting up Halloween decorations and Optimus getting scared about that because he had a bad dream. Then they meet up with a scary spider. But then maybe today's kids have to be insulated from scary realistic art and adult themes like fighting bad guys and searching for energy, so this is good for them. All in the name of making things "better", I suppose.

Many of young transformers fans don't understand G1. I'm not sure did this can be consider as a "hate". Also I lot of time heard how people complaim not even about animation, but more about too much characters. Also G1 was a very weak fight scenes, and many fans consider them boring. Fights from Beast Wars and Transformers Prime are much, much more dynamic, even Armada have some good fight scenes. G1 except for the Movie seems to be rather dissapointning at this. So I understand that people may don't like it. Despite all the cult and nostalgia, and fact that this is genesis of all franchise, Generation 1 is a normal series. At some points it is the best, at other it is the worse. So the answer to question is: What do you understand by term "G1 hater"?
