I'm on the "this Prime" sucks bandwagon and the "Mechtech weapons combining into a bot" bandwagon.

Wasn't there a crazy rumour Omega Supreme was a weapons system in the form of a big ass bot?
If so he's going to expensive.

So far the only figure I like is Megatron.

Prime was looking pretty wierd at first but he's growing on me...Megatron however looks awesome. The caped battle damaged look is blowing my mind and I like the design. At least his arms are articulated unlike the ROTF leader. So far I'm buying Prime, Megatron, Wreckers, Shockwave, and Soundwave if they make a new one... My wallet hurts allready :)

Like everyone I'm kinda put off by this toyline so far, especially with a Leader Bumblebee and a weird looking Optimus. I guess Hasbro will include the trailer with him to get both kids and fans buying him, although if the trailer doesn't fit onto any other Prime, I won't get this one. I will NEVER replace the glorious awesomeness of Buster Optimus Prime!
As for the other toys, Megatron would look good with some splashes of silver paint, and Ironhide looks great, but I'll only get him if he comes with two cannons, rather than just one. In the end I'll probably only get new characters and old characters with new alt-modes or paint decos.

Noideaforaname wrote:Ironhide's gun kinda looked like an arm, Bumblebee's looks sorta like a torso. Perhaps they (and all Mech Tech) combine to a larger bot?

Good observation, maybe the weapons do combine, but maybe they combine into that huge-ass spaceship seen on set a while ago? If you have to get all Mechtech weapons to create the full thing (whatever it is), then Hasbro are clever people. Evil, evil, clever people.

These movie figures are really a dual edged sword. As fans and collectors we need them to do well even if we don't want or like them. The movie franchise has become the bread and butter of the TF universe for Hasbro. I'm not advocating buying figures you don't like for the sake of the property, but we better hope somebody buys them. The whole reason we have collector friendly lines such as RtS and Generations is because the movie franchise has pumped so much cash and awareness into the TF franchise. Personally I'm about 50/50 on what we've seen so far.

im inclined to agree 100% with that but as theyve said we make up a small percentage of their tf sales.bottom line regardless of how craptastic they are they will sell.im really hoping those weapons dont combine into something awesome cause if they do well be broke.also if they indeed do combine hastak needs to announce it beforehand and follow through.i.e. dont give us another arcee/elita-1/chromia.

Rubsigns? Man, they'd be a welcome break from this CRAP.

Big, honkin', nonsense gimmicky weapons, or an incredibly accurate, nicely detailed figure with a rubsign....

I'm gonna go with the rubsign.

That's kind of my point actually. The movie franchise has made TF such a presence that they are even throwing us collectors, who do only make up a small percentage of their sales, a bone with the RtS and Gen lines. Naturally those lines aren't solely intended for us, they know kids will be snapping them up as well. Prior to the movies though you didn't see this many lines running concurrently on the shelves.

Absolutely, especially the follow up ROTF figures like: Seaspray, Bludgeon, Breacher, Terradive and so on. Whether you liked the movie (I hated it) or not, alot of the figures are WICKED! Now these.... eesh. I don't envision Moron Bay making a movie well enough to sell me these.... things.

I'm sure there will be good figures in the DOTM line. All the figures you mentioned didn't actually appear in the movie. The designers have a lot more freedom when they aren't locked into a licensed alt mode.

Apart from Prime (who probably will combine with a trailer anyway), these DotM bots look just as "incredibly accurate and nicely detailed" as all the other current lines. They just come with a (detachable!) gun.

I really think the entire ROTF/TF 2010 line is just so good that it can't be topped. I didn't really expect the new Optimus to be better than BB Optimus, because BB Optimus is already nearly perfect in my opinion. I'm happy with him, so he basically is the only voyager Prime I need for my movie collection. BB Bumblebee is also very good, but the new figure actually looks better to me (the yellow things on his forearms aren't so big).
But it is hard to build upon perfection when everyone is generally happy, since going in a different direction won't be welcomed by those who are already satified with it one way. Then again, if they do a redeco/retool everyone will be unhappy anyway since they want something different.
So basically we have a lose/lose situation for HasTak.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

I don't understand why Battle Blades Optimus Prime couldn't have been modified. Add the gimmicky weapons and clear panels, yet retain the same figure. Like they did with DOTM Bumblebee. A few remolds here and there, but it's basically an uglier version of Battle Blade Bumblebee.

And, as for topping the second film's toys? Leader Prime, if we get one as has been said, they could slim down the torso so he doesn't have a ridiculous backpack and still use his gas tanks as light and sound Mechtech gimmicks. Have it be the same figure as the ROTF version with those mods and it would be as close to a Masterpiece as you could get it, and still have it work with the Mechtech line.

They could easily top the ROTF toyline. We've seen HasTak better themselves with a new line outclassing the previous.

There's no reason why they couldn't here.

EDIT: This Optimus almost reminds me of something we'd see for the TransFormers: Prime toyline that's rumored to be in the works.

Hmm...true. I personally can't think of a way they can modify BB Optimus Prime though. I don't personally have ROTF leader Optimus Prime, but I was thinking the same as you. The gas tanks should be used as guns in my opinion, since he has no firearms (except for Buster Prime). And I'm one of the few that think the MechTech line can in fact work without ruining the figure.

And about Transformers Prime: They probably won't bring that out until post-DOTM, after the movies have lost the spotlight and Prime will pick it up. I wouldn't expect it to show up until 2012 maybe. I don't know if this means anything or not, but the the back of the DOTM toy packages have the Transformers Prime logo printed in the bottom left hand corner. Hmmm...
