I think it's a cool idea. I might be in the minority but I don't think Energon Grimlock is all that bad.

Yes Mega Dinobot was awful, but separately Grimmy and Swoop we're decent.

I'm definitely gonna pick up the Grimlock and Swoop sets. I'll decide on the others when we know who they use for them.

Was there nothing else they could have gone with?? Classics Grimlock or just about anything from the Beast Wars Series? This is far and away the absolute crappiest version of Grimlock to EVER be inflicted upon the Transformers franchise.
There have been a number of Transformer purchases that I've made over the course of the last 30 years where I had to seriously question why the hell I made the purchase and picking up the Grimlock and Swoop set from the Energon line easily ranks within the top 10 on the "WTF was I thinking??" list.
Using that mold for the "1984" version (which actually should be 1985 since Grimlock was not released in the 1984 U.S. run or even introduced in comic or cartoon form but I'm sure that point has already been nit-picked) is just a massive bitch-slap in the face of the fans as far as I'm concerned.

And yes, I do know the movie line is for kids so don't EVEN preach at me about that. Hasbro knows the fans will be perusing the movie line as well as the Generations line so they knew full freaking well what kind of mistake they were making and didn't give a sh** when they made it.

Classics Grimlock does not represent the original iteration of the character. Unless they make a new CHUG Grimlock, that's probably the closest we'll see.

The G1 mold is out of the question, and as has already been said the Classics Grimlock mold does not really convey G1 Grimlock's general look and transformation, netiher do any of the Beastwars Megatrons or Dinobots.

In your Opinion. There's many fans out there who do enjoy that figure. It may not be the best, but its far from being the crappiest.

The really bad part of the Energon Grimlock and Swoop set was their combination. On their own they are decent enough figures for sets like these.

As a standalone figure, it conveys the G1 transformation, and general aesthetic fairly well and considering the original G1 mold is lost or destroyed, short of making a completely new figure, this is the best figure they could go with. Unless you have a better suggestion? Seriously, what figure would you have liked them to use in this set? You can whine all you want but there was really no other figure that could be used.

You don't like it? , don't buy it. There will be a standalone Voyager Movie Grimlock you can buy instead of this set.

The swoop one will be a small set, so that means no Energon Swoop in G1 colors, Garrrr!

Well Energon swoop is quite big in fact he is bigger than the Grimlock, and there is a huge price difference between Grimlock and the Swoop/strafe set ($90 to $25), so I'm assuming that swoop set will not be as large as the Grimlock set.

I'm going to reserve judgment until we see the other 2-packs and get some USD prices as well.

90 dollars?

I think those prices are in Australian dollars. Furthermore, I'd not be surprised if they are placeholder prices anyway. Like I said, I'm reserving judgment until more into about these 2-packs comes out.

The Info did come from an Aussie site, and yes we do pay outragous prices for our toys. I also hope we still get the Energon Swoop, but as you say I will also reserve judgment.

I'm really hoping for Energon Swoop (especially if they redo him in Geewunny colours)
