Not sure if this is out there yet so any Mod please feel free to merge or delete/lock if necessary...

:BOT:

Whilst browsing at my local Toys R Us, I asked an assistant to check their system for an item to see if stock was available.

Browsing down their lists of Transformers figures I spotted listings for upcoming items from what I believe to be part of the immenent Age of Extinction line with a twist.

Transformers Grimlock - Then and Now - Toys R Us code 953350
Transformers Dinobot Slug - Then and Now - Toys R Us code 953237
Transformers Strafe - Then and Now - Toys R Us code 953334
Transformers Bumblebee - Then and Now - Toys R Us code 953490

The Toys R Us assistant confirmed there are prices against each one but wasnt allowed to quote the prices as they where subject to changes, but confirmed the Grimlock Then and Now was considerably more than the other three.

Could we be seeing a sub-line similar to the previous movie boxsets with a Classics figure (Then) paired up with a new AoE figure (Now)?

Interesting. What "Classics" molds would they use for Slug and Strafe?

O dear... the only one I can think of are the Mini-Con ones as they cover the three dinos perfectly. Grimlock costing more is basically due to his smallest size being Voyager, while the rest are Deluxes.

You mean the Classics Dinobot Mini-cons that were recently repainted in G1-ish colors?

Classics Terrorsaur as Grimlock, Knockdown as Slug/Slag, and Swoop as Strafe/Swoop?

Exactly. They were already repainted in G1-esque colored in DotM, as Dualor, Triceradon and Rav (along with a Snarl repaint called Catilla), I wonder if they will be reissued.

I wouldn't be interested unless they were the AOE toys packaged with their G1 selves.

Those sound awesome! I really hope they're either G1 reissues or new classics molds. It's a great idea though. I'm guessing this is an attempt to market both G1 and AoE in Generations simultaneously.

I'm calling AoE toy with Classics Mini-Con right here! Think about it:

1) how often do we see a series of Deluxe or Voyager 2-packs?
2) the G1 Dinobot molds are rumored to be lost or broken
3) Animated would be too much of a style-difference
4) Exclusives are almost always repaints.

The only other possibility I can think of would be using Classics molds like Classics Grimlock and Classics BB, but there are no Classics versions of Slag or Swoop.

Energon? ENERGON?! Wow, color me surprised. No doubt Energon Swoop will be used, but who'll be used for Slug? Animated?

And what Grimlock is this? The Generations Voyager?

AoE Evolution 2-Packs Coming, Featuring Grimlock And More

Seibertron.com member robotmel provided us with some exciting Age Of Extinction toy news, late last week, and now we have pictures of the Grimlock set courtesy of this Facebook post from Transformers Dioramas. And that's not all! Thanks to Seibertron.com member Primeultimus's discovery, we now have confirmation that there is an Optimus set, as well.

Toys R Us will be carrying a line of exclusives called the Evolution 2-Pack, which features an AoE figure (either Deluxe Class or Voyager Class) paired with an older generation figure, redecoed to match their original G1 counterparts.

As of now, the only images available are those of the Grimlock set. This set features AoE Voyager Class Grimlock paired with Energon Grimlock, redecoed in G1 colors!

We will update with the product images as soon as they become available.
robotmel provided the names of the upcoming sets for the upcoming 2-Packs. Keep these names handy for when you go hunting on May 17th!

It should be noted that the official packaging images state Evolution 2-Pack. "Then and Now" may just be an internal TRU naming system.

Primeultimus uncovered the previously unmentioned Optimus set.

Interesting mold choice for the "1984" Grimlock.

thats neat, too bad the G1 version looks like complete and utter crap. why not include the actual G1 toy or at least the Cybertron game version?

What's wrong with G1/Energon one? I'd rather have that one over the original G1 toy.

i just think it looks terrible and cheap, like it was the "kiddie" version or something.

okay so it seems your little brain couldn't grasp what i meant by "kiddie" (even the quote marks were apparently not enough) .....it looks cheap and uncomplicated, like its made for little kids. the same way the rescue bots toys look or stuff like the bot shot toys. and sitting next to the movie toy, it makes it look even worse. and that toy doesn't look too good to begin with either.

As always I reserve judgement until I see in person. As I do not own a Energon Grimlock and this is my first time seeing it it looks alright. Cool pack better then none I suppose. The G1 Grimlock would of been sweet though instead.
