All- had an interesting idea. I want to share with you all some of my wife's thoughts and impressions of DOTM having seen it for the first time over the weekend. Now understand, I have been ITCHING to show her this movie since I saw it. TF is just about the only one of my "geek fandom/hobbie" that she actually digs. She enjoys the movies and loves Beast Wars/Beast Machines. Anyways, I showed her the movie and this is what she (as a casual TF fan who happens to be married to a REAL TF fan like me) thought of it in no particular order:

1. She thought it was better than ROTF but not TF07

2. She was surprised at how much the raunchy content had been reduced

3. She thought Shia did a great job

4. She liked Dylan Gould's character and his feud with Sam

5. She thought Rosie Huntington-Whitely was light years better than Megan Fox as well as Carly being better than Mikaela

6. She thought the Chernobyl scene with Optimus and Shockwave's intro was SWEET

7. She was confused on who Dino and Que were(after explaining it to her she agreed it was dumb to change the names) and she didn't like that they were barely in it

8. She thought Agent Simmons was funny and enjoyed his little backstory with Mearing

9. She thought it was really cool that they got Buzz Aldrin to show up

10. She agreed that the scene on the highway where Bumblebee and Sam are flying through the air and Bumblebee grabs Sam and puts him in his chest as he transforms was the greatest special effect she's ever seen

11. She liked the scene where Optimus takes out the Driller

12. She thought more time should have been devoted to Sam and Bumblebee's relationship, especially when the Autobots return to Chicago

13. She argued with me over whether or not the Soldiers gliding into Chicago scene was real (parts of it was)

14. She commented on long it was taking the NEST team to get to Trump Tower

15. She thought Starscream's death scene was silly (not in a good way)

16. She was disappointed that Ultimate Optimus doesn't look like his power up mode in the movie

17. She thought the scene where Carly talks Megatron into attacking Sentinel Prime was ridiculous

18. She didn't laugh at about 2/3's of the movies "jokes"

19. She did think Brains and Wheelie were funny

20. She wondered why the Decepticons hiding on the moon hadn't invaded sooner

21. She was confused on the fate of Cybertron

22. Over all she was a bit disappointed- though she admitted it was okay. Nothing really WOWED her about it.

Okay- so let us know what experiences/thoughts/impressions your first time viewers had of DOTM. It could be family, friends, etc. I'm interested to know. Blessings all!

Why do people like the first movie so damn much? It was confusing, made no sense, and the robots didn't even show up until the last 20 minutes of the movie.

20. It's because Optimus Prime was needed to revive Sentinel Prime so the latter can activate the Space Bridge (since he was the only one who can do it). And the Cons on the Moon were waiting for Megatron to give the command.

You know what? I actually agree with pretty much everything!

Oh and yeah, the first movie was far and away the best of the trilogy. It's miles ahead of ROTF which shouldn't even exist, and quite a bit better than DOTM as well.

Dinojack86: I love seeing/reading about nonfan or casual viewers’ reactions to fannish items of all kinds. Thanks for sharing your wife’s impressions!

I can offer only a few snippets—both from people who are vaguely aware of what Transformers are and can do, but who aren’t really fans--in return so far. First, I brought DOTM in to work today in case anyone wanted to have a quick ‘preview’ during their coffee break or whatever. One of the cleaners wanted to have a look at the ‘new guy’ without being too spoiled so I skipped the DVD ahead to the scene where Optimus revives Sentinel, then they have their little orientation chat. The cleaner was impressed, but only because: “Wow, that guy (Sentinel) sure is cranky. Sheesh! What’s HIS problem?” I replied that he was probably cranky because he’d just been woken up after ‘sleeping’ for some thousands of years. Another person who'd watched chimed in at that point with: "Maybe that's why (insert name of universally disliked person-in-the-building here) is so damn crabby. She sleeps too damn much!"

Also...yesterday I was looking at a GIF online which someone made of the scene where Optimus tackles Sentinel while Sentinel is trying to drive off in his fire truck mode. A guy I know well meanders in and also looks at it…”Is that from the new Transformers movie?”…”Yup.” We look at it again. Then we both start snickering. I guess, all dramatic aspects aside, the sheer goofiness of it was finally seeping through…we were watching a giant robot tackle a fire truck in order to force him into assuming his own robot form. More giggles. Next thing I know, I'm caught up in discussing this appalling alternate version, musing aloud about how awful it would have been had Sentinel decided to disguise himself as an ordinary city bus instead and Optimus had made a terrible mistake and grabbed the wrong bus. Screams and shattered windows and dented sides and blood spraying everywhere! And Optimus would no doubt have slunk off, averting his eyes and muttering, “Oh, sorry. My bad.”...

THAT'S why I like sharing the fannish stuff with nonfans. They sure do come up with some different ways of looking at things.

Because it felt great. From start to finish. I do wish the Autobots were in it longer, but aside from that I do feel it is the best TF movie to date (with DOTM being my favorite if that makes any sense.) Besides, people are entitled to there opinion, so don't get all angry. Besides, You're the one who loves ROTF. (Nothing wrong with that actually.)
