Like I said, I think once you're outta school it gets easier because you get to choose the people you hang out with. I'm sure the occasional jerky relative is an issue sometimes. I think being a geek is so much more accepted today than it was 10 and 20 years ago, and that makes being a collector less of a basement dwelling oddity.

Of course, I think we can also credit The Big Bang Theory with making us whole lot more "fan friendly". :P (Oh God! Please don't flame me! Lol)

i totally agree with you, i dont give a dam what people think of me if i like transformers, star trek, star wars. its something i enjoy watching and playing the online games or have anything to do with its my hobby, like i dont go saying bad things about what he or she likes, now if someone would like twilight i would say my opinion it sucks but they like it and its something they like but i still say it sucks lol but im not gonna say bad things about them though. As i say again dont like what i like, i dont give a crap lol u can just go jump off a bridge LOL.

Facing insults (in any aspect of life) is healthy. It's really about having enough respect for yourself to respond to the insults in a way that represents who you truly are to yourself, and, to no one else. At the end of the day, you either care more about what brings joy to the status quo or what brings joy to yourself.

It's selfish, but we all live life between our own ears.
Insults are a welcomed test of self worth.

Occasionally my family makes fun of me for liking transformers, but generally my peers don't. Girls don't make fun of my transformer hobby either, however they do think my movies hobby is a little overboard when I know recite basic stuff about Nosferatu and etc. off the top of my head.
