if you look of their FB page or the fansproject core website http://www.fansprojectcore.com/ (sign up is free) they give a brief explanation of the sites purpose. it seems they will be going into their own fiction and developing figures for it. in addition to it they have an already finished full size figure that will be exclusive to the site.

gotta say im interested to see whats coming. between this and the armmauraders we saw images of a while back were getting some interesting items mecha coming down the pipe. >:oP

As much as I like Fansprojects ... I like them for their TF homages. Heartmaster barely qualifies; I was much more interested after it was pointed out that it resembles WW OP and that it could, maybe, pass as an WW-ish Ultra Magnus.

So I'm a bit skeptical. We'll see what we see.

I'm in. 8)

So now there's going to be both an official and an unofficial subscription service coming up. This is going to be fun. 8-}

See above, but I hope to be a part of it as well. Homage or not, I still want that Steel Core!

I'm not thrilled with this. I get the feeling that they're straying from TF homages and I'm not too keen on that. I'm also worried that if they see success with this, how long until iGear, TFC Toys, MakeTOys and others start their own?

Slippery slope here.

I was getting away from FP with my first bad experience with one of the Not-Insecticons, so if this is the direction they're going in, more power to them because it's one less reason to buy a product which I suspect will be of increasingly cheaper quality/QC and go elsewhere (TFC and PerfectEffect).

Venksta has said that they will continue with TF homages.

Well, seeing how the site was started about a year ago and they've pretty much finished the first figure, I would say they had the idea first.

Well FunPub said that their figures were also being worked on at the time of the conference, so who knows really?

Eh... despite how much I'd love to continue supporting Fansproject, I too am leery of the straying from TF homages thing, and after a few minor issues I've had regarding their (lack of) customer support, I'm not sure entering into a subscription service is in my best interests... that, and the fact that I pretty much spent my yearly toy budget on Giant. :BANG_HEAD:

I just hope they're not gonna pull a FunPub and mix the **** in with the good stuff with the subscription service. Sorry, but I don't care about FansProject's original characters. I'm sure they're neat and all, but I don't buy expensive ass toys just for giggles anymore. They gotta be working toward the focus and goal of my collection to buy.

Although, as long as they don't do what I mentioned to start and try and to rope you into buying their all original crap in order to get their G1 hole fillers, I'm fine with 3rd Parties trying to do a lot more of their own thing. It'll save me some cash and maybe the wads'll quit all putting out the same **** as each other.

Just to be clear, this is not a subscription service. You guys got it totally wrong. Its more like THE 3rd party/independent transforming robot makers club. I can't spill all the beens, but unlike the FunPub subscription service, anyone can join the FansProject Core club. And you don't have to pay to interact to be a member. Also, anyone joined in will have access to buy any exclusive figures offered through the club only. Now, there will be a paid membership, where you get incentives, and a freebie figure/toy/ect. But that will be a option for people.

As for the CORE website itself, its not 100% Fansproject driven. Its going to be a big community of creative minds, where we determine where the "3rd party" independent transforming robot makers go now. Future products will have influence from us. :)

I like this direction that FP is taking. While I'm an admirer of their 3rd party work, ultimately, I'm happy with TF products from the TF producers of Hasbro and TakaraTomy. 3rd party work is a nice option for collectors like myself. However, I can see how the people behind FP and other 3rd party organizations would eventually want to do their own work. They're creative individuals who are inspired by properties like Transformers but I imagine they'd want to spread their wings at some point and make their own creations from the ground up.

I'm eagerly awaiting more development on their community polling system. The only other toy designers I've heard of using a system by which others can vote on the outcome of designs is the Four Horsemen. Their independent work has been developed by voting results garnered by polls they hold on their web site. They've been using that kind of system for a few years now.

Yes, but FP designs their own things, and you know how long it can take till FP releases something after originally announcing it.
However, Funpub was faster with announcing theirs.

I honestly think the thought of all original figs is pretty cool...however, I think it's hard to get behind at 3rd Party prices. I don't like paying 3rd Party prices for the TF characters I want but won't get (or get good/accurate versions of) from HasTak, but since that's the only way to get them, what are you gonna do? When it comes to random characters I have no attachment to, though, I'm just going to overlook them.

BTW, welcome back...haven't seen you post much lately.

Now I'm even more confused, but thanks for trying to explain it better without giving away the gameplan.

I'm glad FansProject will still be continuing to directly homage Transformers as purely original stuff simply wouldn't excite me as much. I am worried about quality suffering as a result of more products though.

It's good to be back. :) Life has been very busy over the last year or so and my hobbies have taken a backseat. I'm just starting to get back into the swing of things again.

3rd party prices are definitely a hurdle for organizations like FP to overcome when they produce non-TF inspired work. Their customerbase is largely made up of TF collectors so, as you said, without any attachment to a concept, TF collectors will likely overlook their original work due to the prohibitive pricing.

I guess I'm one of the few that is excited to here we'll have some originality coming down the line. I love the TF homages as well but the saturation of 3rd party companies nowadays, I think some original stuff would be cool. Especially from FansProject, who have their own stories and universe to help introduce them. Bring on the creativity!

Oddly enough, I'm not. I think it boils dow to cost for me. When it comes to original characters from Hasbro, I buy many of them because they look cool and are pretty cheap. However if a 3rd Party puts out something that is just as, if not more, cool and interesting it will be a lot more expensive for a character that I don't have any previous emotional attachment to. I just don't know if I'm ready to spend that type of dough. Time will tell I suppose.

This is true for me as well.

Heartmaster looked much more appealing after he was shown to be very similar to WW Prime. But even then he's a step removed from someone like Defender. Even their new not-Broadside is too obscure for me to really want to shell out money for. I have no emotional attachment to that guy whatsoever.

Emotional attachment isn't as much an object to me as pre-existing characters. I don't mind new characters like heartmaster, but between a not-transformer character and a not-transformer not-character, my money goes to the former first.
