Considering it says 'Cruiser Mode' I'm not sure I understand why some are unhappy that it isn't an aircraft carrier. I mean... Defender has a tank-esque car mode so it isn't like FP putting their own spin on things is necessarily new. Besides, it isn't that much of a stretch from a Space Cruiser to an Aircraft Carrier, is it?

All in all it isn't perfect, but I'm not disappointed either. Another good looking figure in my book and another character to cross off my list.

So FP... what's the next Triplechanger on the chopping block? :KREMZEEK:

I'm not going to lie, every time I see a new FansProject preorder it excites me more than any other company's preorder.

To get or not to get. That is the question.

It looks awesome, and seeing the prototype at TFCon makes me appreciate it's massiveness, but ... it's still just Brodside.

Good eye. I think you're on to something. Maybe they'll surprise everyone with a more legit battleship versus the cruiser mode.

Gauntlet101010 wrote:It's the back of the box, so I think that's just it, guys. I guess one of the three modes of a triple changer must suffer, even for FP.

I'm with Gauntlet101010 on this one. To add another mode would just detract from the character this figure homages. I'd say the lines on the fins are simply detailing that matches up with the detailing of the guns/wings in jet mode. Yeah, the ship mode is definitely the weakest of the bunch, but neither vehicle mode represents a real-world machine so I can let the designs slip a fair bit.

Agamemnon wrote:And, the character is probably the worst for mass shifting, IMHO. I mean, does anybody know just how big an aircraft carrier is? Then to go to a jet?

Agreed. For a Transformer to change into a jet and also the aircraft carrier that would launch it, forgive my crudeness but it always struck me as the transformation equivalent of masturbation. This is what I like about Assaulter. Of course a cruiser is smaller than an aircraft carrier, and Assaulter's jet mode gives me more of a large attack aircraft/bomber vibe than that of a small, nimble fighter. So for me the mass shifting would be lessened.

I know, I know. I'm probably overthinking it.

At the end of the day. I really like it, therefore I'll certainly be getting it. However, I won't be getting it from FPC. No discounted price for members, extortionate international flat rate shipping costs, waiting two months after release for it to arrive, and now they've lost there exclusivity of the micro Warbot vehicles; why would I bother getting it from FPC?

The Cruiser mode is growing on me. I love Macross/Robotech/Japanese Mecha, so I'll probably love this. I definitely love FP products...sorry, accountant. It's going to be a crappy November. Preordered!

(Now that retail prices on regular TF Deluxes are insane, I can save money there. Maybe I'll peruse the clearance shelves after Xmas.)

Thanks to all our fans for all the patience with so many projects going on. We have many announcements to make starting with this one. FPC will be releasing pre-orders soon for Assaulter and has confirmed with FP that members of FPC that order will receive a bonus with their figure.

So the BBTS/other retailer version will have everything that the FPC one does, but packaged separately? For the same price?

Much as I want to support FPC, BBTS's pile of loot and customer service will win this for me, easily.

I have a question and I would really appreciate if someone could answer it, especially if someone had the opportunity of having one in hands:

What kind of joint is in Assaulter's hips connecting the legs to the body? Is that a ball joint? or is it a ratchet joint?

I think it is a very important question because of the diecast in the legs. I don't want to believe they use ball joints in the hips, but... never know... The joints in the hips seems similar to the ones in Core Steel, which are ball joints... Assaulter needs to have ratchet joints to support poses.

Thank you =)

Pre-ordered.

It certainly has a Macross vibe to it, but that's OK with me.
I look at it as a "Cybertron" mode ... and I really like Macross, so it's all good.

If some later company does re-do the character with more of an earth mode, I'd probably look to update this, and move him from my Neo-G1 shelves to my Cybertron mode shelf, which is getting a lot of love because of the WfC/FoC stuff.

Yep, that's kinda what I'm thinking as well. It's a good representation if they were shooting for a Cybertronian/pre-Earth mode for him.

I'm still not biting though simply because I don't have an itch for a pre-Earth Broadside that badly. It does look like a pretty nifty figure though.

Maybe some other company can create a middle piece that fits over the 2 runways and makes it look more like an earth carrier. At least they got the robot mode right. Although I would have been satisfied with a repaint of Armada Tidal Wave with a retooled head. Flip the wings out and its a plane, lol.

The carrier mode doesn't actually bug me as much (though it would have been nice). I really wanted a show-accurate plane mode. I always thought he looked cool, kinda like a gigantic Aerialbot or something. That's why his scale clashes between carrier and jet modes never bothered me, because he actually didn't really mass-shift too much on the show. He turned into a gigantic plane the size of an aircraft carrier.

Why are people looking for Assaulter to have a G1 look when it's obviously using a Cybertronian mode?

I guess it's my own fault for misunderstanding the concept of what they were trying to create. I honestly thought that, like Springer (Defender), they were shooting for a homage/representation of the original G1 version of the character. It was never really clear to me that what they were going for was a Cybertronian version.

I was looking for a modern (i.e. bigger, more complex, better articulated, more show-accurate) G1 version of Broadside. Again, that's my own misunderstanding of what they were doing, and the reason why I'm not buying in on this one.

Because people have a affliction of liking old, outdated designs, and want them to be repeated every two years.

I'm digging these FP's, because they are not G1, but a completely new universe of g1 characters in new exciting designs, we haven't seen before.

Plus I'm a Mecha Fan, so the fact theres a macross shot out in that design, means double win.

Hey, I'm all for updates, but making something look like a Macross mecha from 10 or 20 years ago isn't an 'update' in my opinion. Making it look like perhaps a more modern incarnation of an actual fighter jet/aircraft carrier would be an update, not making it look like something considered 'futuristic' back in the 80's.
