My favorite Optimus Prime is G1 Optimus Prime (from the toon and all comics save for the Marvel version).

As for Megatron, Aligned Megatron, especially in Prime. I just love that guy.

Beast Wars Megatron shouldn't really count, since he's not "the" Megatron of a continuity, but someone who took the name in honor of "the" Megatron.

Favourite megs? IDW version hands down

Favourite prime...hmmmm....this is a tough one. Again I'm going to say IDW.

Technically if you disavow Megatron from BW/BM then thoes shows aren't going to be in this list as they never had a prime as a main character.

Exactly, since essentially they are continuations of G1 and not their own unique entities.

Prime, I really liked Animated Prime. He was a version of the character we really hadn't seen before, a young inexperienced leader instead of the wise old legend, and I really liked that.

Megatron, its gonna have to be Aligned Megatron, especially in the Prime cartoon. He was so friggin cool.

Well,if we are eliminating BW Megs, then Movieverse Megs, but Primes Megs is my second favorite.

If we are including toy versions as well to this list, then I'd have to say

Masterpiece Megatron
and Cybertron Optimus

1. Don't ever be afraid to stand up for what you like. Who cares if others like it or not? It's your enjoyment.

2. I always thought BW is part of G1, considering all the references. The Ark and the deactivated G1 characters are shown on the series, for Primus's sake. If that's not "official" I don't know what is.

3. The BW characters were excluded, because they're technically not Optimus and Megatron, just their equivalent.

I have to add my voice with the TFPrime/IDW supporters of Megs.... he was just so perfect. He didn't start out the first few episodes in Prime as very deep, but the writers (and I'd have to probably say Welker) breathed some real life and pulled out the motivation. It's also probably a soft spot for Welker. Many characters I've liked over the years has been voiced by him.

TFPrime's Prime started out good, but it almost seemed as if the writers just were loosing focus (in favor of the other characters, which was great, but they sacrificed Optimus, but then again, that could be because the points where he seemed lacking the writers were being pushed and nothing seemed quite... right. They had a really good idea going... an almost fatherly leader, wise and everyone respected him and he was also a great warrior, and he had a lot of depth brewing. It could have been very good. He wasn't *just* charge into battle and shoot the enemy, deliver John Wayne-esque lines while doing it.
So actually my favorite Prime is the War For Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron Prime. He was a lovely mix of intelligent, caring, charismatic.... kind of where they had been trying to go with TFPrime..

Optimus Prime:

Design wise, it's probably RID (2001) Prime. Mainly because I love that toy with all my heart. Never watched the show though. Movie, Armada and Cybertron come in close seconds though.

Character wise, I'd have to go for Movieverse. He's like G1 Optimus, but a million times more badass. He's a wise, battle-hardened hero who doesn't take **** from anyone and will defend his comrades to the last. Hurt his fellow Autobots or innocent humans and he WILL kill you. I know people accuse him of being bloodthirsty, but I think his willingness to say "enough is enough" and kick arse is what makes him so awesome. He's not just a "good guy" he's a war hero- and considering Peter Cullen based Optimus Prime on his Vietnam veteran brother, that's just awesome.

Megatron:

Design wise, I'd have to say Armada. It's a shame his toy is a bit of a brick, because his design, with the huge, armoured legs, clawed fists, shoulder pylons and freakin' horns is just awesome. He looks like a real tyrant, and one who can kill you to death at that. Runners up include RID and Movie, and also the other Unicron Trilogy designs (Energon Megatron looks a little tubby and is a bit too Galvatron for my liking, and Cybertron Megatron is almost perfect, but sweet Primus those colours! They're both awesome though).

Character wise, I know he doesn't really count, but as far as I'm concerned there is only 1 answer- Beast Wars Megatron. This guy just stole the show as far as I'm concerned- which is saying something as TRUKK NOT MUNKY aside (I still think Prime/Primal should have been a lion) Beast Wars is probably my favourite Transformers cartoon ever. David Kaye's performance was absolutely fantastic, really giving him that charming-yet-evil voice we all love, and he was exceptionally competent compared to his other namesakes. And not only was he evil, he was funny too! Some of his one-liners were brilliant, and who could forget his trademark "Yesss..."?

So yeah. I love BW Megs. A close second place would be Unicron Trilogy Megatron, specifically his Cybertron incarnation, who was gloriously evil. Movie Megatron was cool too, due to just how bloody terrifying he is.

Didn't think about toy versions but here goes:

Prime Toy: I'm torn between RiD Prime and Cybertron Prime, both are awesome to play with and are fantastic representations of their on screen characters. But Cybertron slightly edges out the RiD version simply because it's super mode isn't as problematic to put together. Animated Battle Begins deluxe Prime is a solid third place.

Megatron Toy: Animated Megatron...The leader class mold, just an intimidating figure, towering over any prime from that line (which is the point). The voyager mold is just very disappointing, there's not much good to say about it.

Guess this would be weird for some:

Prime - FOC Deluxe. I like his shape here.

Megatron - DOTM Voyager. Because of his cloaked form, sort of like Exia Repair in Gundam 00.

My fav Prime is the one from AOE. He just looks so sick and whenever I see a picture of him I just get this awesome feeling lol.

My favorite Megatron is TFP megz. he was just by far the best version of megatron.

I don't particularly have a favorite Optimus Prime. I mean, design-wise, I could probably pick a couple. However, it seems that no one has been able to give Optimus any kind of interesting characteristics. He's just "that hero guy...go get all 10 of his toys."

Meanwhile, Prime Megatron is the best and most well developed Megatron of all-time. He started out just like a generic Megatron warlord, but I have to give props to Predacons Rising to flipping the tables on his character by giving him a taste of his own medicine. Brilliant writing and a brilliant Megatron.

My favorite Optimus is easier than Megatron. G1 optimus was great. I loved almost everything about him but his defining moment for me was Optimus fighting in Autobot City. Movieverse Optimus is usually the main focus for the films plots. I really like that version because he kills everybody. And For Megatron one of the movie versions. Probably just Megatron in the films in general.

Motto: "A man who wants nothing is invincible."
favorite fiction leaders:
-G1 cartoon optimus prime. perfect soldier and leader. one dimensional, but remember it was a 80s toy cartoon. highlights of mine: his one on one fight with a jacked up megatron in "heavy metal war". his fight with grimlock and the first dinobots in "war of the dinobots". which he lost, but held his own. and finally the fight to the death in TFTM, properly epic.
-BW/BM megatron. he was quite simply, a genius. not to mention incredibly ambitious, what with him trying to alter history and actually conquering cybertron.

favorite leader toys:
-cybertron optimus prime. amazingly playable toy in every mode, not to mention wing saber mode. posable, optional faceplate, and even an opening chest with matrix! love love love it. ill admit, BW optimal optimus was a close second but his lack of useful alt modes was the clincher (bot and jet mode were used 96% of the time). and i didnt choose MP10 cause thats not really a toy you "play" with.
-energon galvatron. just a really nice figure, almost "premium" in paint app quality. moderatly poasable and very playable. the mold is epically galvatron. and simply being a huge galvatron fan to begin with, how could it not be my favorite? honorable mentions go to BW 10th magatron and united (classics) megatron. BW 10th megatron finally had an optional hand, had nicely detailed sculpting and lots of posing options (double jointed feet?!). united megatron because his paint scheme is amazing and spot on. posable and turns into a gun. we're not likely to get another one of those in a looong time.
