You mean the one that plays in the main menu in Blood Money? Or the one that plays when 47 is about to make a kill?

Main Menu. It's like iconic for the game now. I'll be mad if they don't put it in Absolution.

I'm already plenty pissed that they fired David Bateson from voicing 47 in Absolution.

Except David Bateson hasn't been fired and is still voicing Agent 47. Diana has a new voice actress, though.

With the exception of FF X-2 and FF-XIII-2, and the various side-story games like Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus, every "main" Final Fantasy is a standalone game set in vastly different universe, requiring no knowledge of the previous game to play.

Of course, all that might be changing with Squeenix desperate for cash, and trying to milk FF XIII for all it's worth.

Anyways, here's another list of my fav game music from the PS2 era:

Beginning and ending theme for Breath of Fire IV - Dragon Quarter. One of the most touching RPG's I've ever played, and Chihiro Onitsuka's Castle: Imitation really compliments the ending credits.

Persona 4's ending Theme, Never More.

The Bouncer's ending theme, Forevermore. Not crazy about the game, and the song's just average as J-Pop tunes go. But I liked the plot and the characters, and the song compliments this.

Opening theme for Tales of The Abyss.

Soundtrack from The Vagrant Story: Knights of the Cross, and The Underworld (the dungeon where the little dolls attack you.) Opinioons may vary, that is one of the best games I've played on the PS1, and probably one of the most well-told stories in an RPG.

Opening and ending theme for Parasite Eve. Somnia Memorias; love it.

Opening theme for Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven; Sadame. Really gets you into the ninja mood.

Ending theme from Fatal Frame II; Chou (means Butterfly in Japanese).

Ending theme from Dynasty Warriors 5; Excalibur. Just doesn't get old.

Ending theme and "final act" soundtrack from FF VII - Dirge of Cerberus; Redemption and Longing, by GACKT.

Opening theme for SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1; Danger, by Etro Anime. IMO, much better than the original Japanese theme, which is a major surprise.

Opening and Ending theme for SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2; Alive by Kayako Momota and Time Capsule by "as" (that's the band's name, really)

Damn, this is starting to look like an Emmy nomination list. :KREMZEEK:

You don't need to play catch up like you would Metal Gear, since each game is self-contained, there's no proper starting point or ending point. You can really just start with whatever game people suggest at you the most, which is probably going to be 6 or 7.

Shadowman wrote:
BeastProwl wrote:It just wouldnt feel right. Besides, even if they dont happen in order, you would probably have to play the others to understand certain parts, right?

Nope! When I say self-contained, I mean self-contained. Unlike Elder Scrolls, the lore and fundamental rules of the universe are reset with each new game. Any references to past games are little more than in-jokes and running gags, and your experience won't be diminished for it.

Beat you to the punch on the last page.

XIII is being kept in its own universe with its own number, there's no indication they're going to start continuing the story from one game in an unrelated main series game. Although they have admitted XIV might include crossovers, there's nothing to suggest that this will become the norm.

Especially since XIII hasn't exactly proved to be popular, XIII-2 even less so.

Back on topic:

Easily my favorite track from DCUO. It's very Indiana Jones and fits the theme of the mission it plays in.

While we're at it, this one, too:

Plays at the end of the tutorial mission. While you're fighting a huge army of Brainiac Drones...alongside Superman, no less, and you're keeping up with him. The fact that the song plays while you're matching the freaking Man of Steel in combat, just makes it that much more awesome.

I thought they were planning several different games based on a single universe, named Fabula Nova Crystallis. The first of them is FF XIII. In fact, it wasn't even supposed to have a number, initially.

At least, that's what it says here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabula_Nova_Crystallis_Final_Fantasy

Oh, and despite everything going against the possibility of yet another FF XIII sequel, Squeenix seems adamant at making you like the FF XIII universe. I give you...Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Check it out here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_Returns:_Final_Fantasy_XIII

The thing about Fabula Nova Crystallis is that the only recurring number is XIII, and two of the games (Type-0 and Versus XIII) are totally unrelated to the Lightning Trilogy outside of certain terms. It's a lot like the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, although everything in the Compilation was directly and neatly tied together, so it's more along the lines of the Ivalice Alliance. (Tactics, Tactics Advance, Tactics A2, XII, and Revenant Wings, and only the last two have any real connection)

Short version: This is far from the first time they've done this.

Uh...it doesn't say that there. It says the number XIII was removed from the name of the collection, after Agito XIII was renamed to Type-0.

What, exactly, was going against the possibility? Square had the means and the motive to make it happen, and XIII-2 ended in a massive cliffhanger, it was pretty obvious it was going to happen. Despite bitching and moaning about it all, people still buy Final Fantasy no matter what.

Guess you got a point there.

I came to that conclusion basically because I view Versus as a standalone game, taking place in the same universe as XIII, but in a different time period and different cast, instead of "side-games" like VII's Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core.

I only just realized FF XII was tied to the earlier FF's. My first FF was VII, so the whole Ivalice thing was "before my time" so to speak.

Shadowman wrote:Uh...it doesn't say that there. It says the number XIII was removed from the name of the collection, after Agito XIII was renamed to Type-0.

Wha? But why does it still have a number at release?

If Sankaku Complex articles are to be believed, FF XIII did pretty well initially, selling 1.5 million copies in its initial opening, but soon plummeted sharply, with the games later sold at a massive discount within 2 months.

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/01/02/final-fantasy-xiii-sales-plummet/

I might be wrong on this, but Japanese companies mostly base the success or failure of a product on domestic sales alone.

Also from Sankaku; an article stated that Squeenix is planning to outsource its "big" game making to other companies, stating that it was "too much work." By "big", I take it to mean disc-based games, as opposed to downloadable, mobile phone, or PSP games.

...it doesn't. Versus XIII and XIII itself do, but Fabula Nova Crystallis dropped the number from it's name after Agito XIII was renamed Type-0. I literally just explained all this to you.

No More Heroes got a sequel because, despite selling like crap in Japan, it sold great in the US.

Square bought Eidos a couple years ago. Deus Ex: Human Revolution was one of the big releases in 2011, so I'd say, yeah, they're already on that.

Didn't play it. I thought it was some compilation of older FF games or something and ignored it when it came out.

And before you say it, yes, I'm a Philistine who's incapable of appreciating such a fine RPG masterpiece just because it doesn't have flashy graphics. >:oP :D

Never mind, this is getting a little too complicated for me. I just thought Fabula Nova Crystallis was some universe where XIII, Versus XIII and many other games would be set in. I hope I at least got this part right.

After your done gluing your brain back into your skull from the mindblow, let me know.

Also, Unleashed was really good actually, and I hear good things about Colors.

Those two were overlooked because of

1 Werehog

2 The game before this one was the one with the werehog thing right? Pshhh...

And that's why people look over games like Generations. Generations, from what I understand, is amazingly well thought out, and really fun, with loads of replayability. I remember likeing Sonic Heroes too as a matter of fact, but that was just because of Vector and Espio and that little bee dude from a bunch of old comics I had were in it. But yeah, generations, some of it is VERY reminiscent of Sonic Adventure. Just look at the Shadow Boss Fight and you'll see what I mean.

Godhand has one of the single greatest soundtracks to date, if I do say so myself. I recommend it to anyone with the ability to overcome steep learning curves...My god is that game HARD it's first few playthroughs. You cant get the hang of it fully until you've beaten it at least twice. And then there are even harder bat **** crazy modes to try out. Umm...But yeah, kickass music to kick ass to:
