Favorite Video Game Music?

Its needless to say that, nowadays, your video game needs to have an amazing soundtrack to go along with it. Some soundtracks are so memorable and so well thought out, that they leave long lasting impressions.

Among my personal favorites are Dragon Roost Island and any song from zelda to be honest, Metal Gear Saga, and of course the Skyrim Theme, but there are many others (Like all the other MG songs, Saga's just my favorite) and from much older games that I enjoy a great deal, like Donkey Kong Country 2's Bramble Blast.

When all is said and done though, I cant pick an ideal favorite from any game. What is your favorite (Or list of favorites) song or songs, and from what games, and why?

Try to keep it spoiler free.

I gotta say, the original S.S. Anne theme from Pokemon Red/Blue/Green still remains one of my all-time favorites. In terms of more modern games, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword had an absolutely phenomenal soundtrack. The full orchestra, the the throwbacks to earlier titles before it, and the hidden Zelda's Lullaby just made it for me.

Oh, and of course: Touhou.

Touhou is really an aquired taste, The whole game is dodging massive amounts of firepower, isnt it? The music is really fast paced, and tends to get stuck in my head rather easily.

My favorite music at the moment from the game is the first Mission from Transformers Fall of Cybertron, I just hope that High Moon Studios brings also a Digital or CD Score from this game. :D

The final boss music of Kirby's Adventure. The Mega Man and Sonic series both have some good scores as well.

Ah, yes. Kirby has some good ones! I love the Galacta Knight theme from Super Star Ultra.

And the intro theme from Shadow the hedgehog the game (The only good part of the game, IMO) Is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Devil May Cry 3. I think the music just fits well with all the demon slaying.

Well, let's make a list here. I have a lot of favorites.

-The menu music from Team Fortress 2.

-The music from Sam and Max.

-Earthworm Jim

-Overlord, especially the main theme and its remixes (Like Overlord's Wrath from the second game)

-Anything Koji Kondo had his hands in, obviously...you know what, let's just say, any Nintendo game at all.

-The Midnight Riders from Left 4 Dead 2 (Music to slaughter zombies by, Walking Dead could learn a thing or two)

-The music from Half-Life, but especially Vortal Combat

-The various themes from Elder Scrolls

-Anything Johnny Gioelli has done for Sonic

-Final Fantasy, but especially Clash on the Big Bridge and its remixes

-Doom's soundtrack (Yes, even Doom music)

-Does Brutal Legend's soundtrack count?

-While we're at it, do Star Wars game soundtracks count? Seeing as they're mostly taken from the movies. Same question applies to the Back to the Future games.

Did you, of all people, just forget Metal Gear? :O

It's not so much that I forgot Metal gear, it's that I intentionally excluded Metal Gear. Not enough tracks in the game get me totally pumped like the ones in my list.

Well, its also about how the song makes you feel while playing the game. Metal Gear's soundtrack, it just makes EVERYTHING in game feel epic, and real. Like the part were you and eva are on the motorcyle fighting off all those troops AND the Shagohod. The music made that part.

I love the Song of Storms and the ocean theme from windwaker. I also love the music from some Japanese rpg that was release around April. I believe the game is called Xenoblade: Chronicles, that game has a GODLY soundtrack.

I'm addicted to the gangsta music on the radio in GTA IV. Just can't get enough of Chuck Fenda's "All About the Weed."

Hitman - Blood Money's main theme is one of my all-time favorites.

Metal Gear Solid - Sons of Liberty's main theme is also awesome.

Been playing Sleeping Dogs lately, and the Cantonese hip hop is surprisingly catchy. 24 Herbs; weird name, but good music.

Guilty Gear; nuff said.

Almost embarrassed to admit it, but Noel's Final Journey from FF XIII-2 is awesome.

Nearly forgot these from the FF franchise, back when Enix hadn't screwed things up.

Aeris's Theme (during that unforgettable scene in the Petrified Forest), Jenova Absolute, One-Winged Angel and Fireworks (cable car segment at the Gold Saucer) from FF VII. Classics, all. Advent Children's Jenova remix is also one of my favs.

Suteki da Ne from FF X is one of the only things I liked about the game.

Say what you will about the game, but Eyes on Me from FF VIII is something I've been listening to for over a decade, but it just doesn't get old.

While I dont particularly like hip hop all that much, I will say that it compliments certain things better than rock or other music would. I cant picture playing Zelda to hip hop, but GTA, it works. I still tend to keep it to rock stations though.

I dont play Final Fantasy. It's not that I wouldnt like it, more that I cant catch up to it at this point. It didnt pull me in when I was younger like it did alot of other kids. I had a couple games on the PS1. The first disc of Metal Gear Solid was one of them, and I liked that one the most, even if all I really got to was Vulcan Raven, and I didnt know how to aim the grenades in the right spot

Picked it up later on PSN, beat it in no time flat. I bought it out of nostalgia, and became addicted to the series. While I dont have it anymore, I still remember being floored at how impacting the music could be at times.

You don't need to play catch up like you would Metal Gear, since each game is self-contained, there's no proper starting point or ending point. You can really just start with whatever game people suggest at you the most, which is probably going to be 6 or 7.

It just wouldnt feel right. Besides, even if they dont happen in order, you would probably have to play the others to understand certain parts, right? And even if you dont, I still want to play it from start to finish if im going to play it at all anyway, so its a no go for me. There are cases were I wont play games in order from the first one on, and final fantasy should probably be one of them, seeing as to how popular it is, but I dont want to dive into a franchise without really knowing anything about it. Last time I did that was Skyrim. Not a bad thing, but there are still parts I'm completely confused about.

Nope! When I say self-contained, I mean self-contained. Unlike Elder Scrolls, the lore and fundamental rules of the universe are reset with each new game. Any references to past games are little more than in-jokes and running gags, and your experience won't be diminished for it.

But seriously, here's this:

The classical Japanese/modern rock mix is the best part about that version. If you don't like it, FF12 has an orchestral version, Dissidia has a rock version, and the original SNES midi version.

You mean the one that plays in the main menu in Blood Money? Or the one that plays when 47 is about to make a kill?

My favorite music from a game at the moment is the score of Transformers Fall of Cybertron, too bad that High Moon Studios don't have plans yet to make a CD or Digital release of this epic soundtrack...

Main Menu. It's like iconic for the game now. I'll be mad if they don't put it in Absolution.
