Final thoughts on DOTM (group discussion)

Postby RodimalToyota » Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:17 am

First I want to make clear I throughly enjoyed DOTM as a movie buff, and believe it's the best of the three. However after watching at home now a dozen or so times (lol), I've found some irks. Beyond the normal character change drama from fan boys, but mainly just.. Uhs.

1) Energon detectors, can find the Dreads miles away, but can't find Soundwave?
You can say Soundwave blocked the reader, but they didn't explain that or even hint at it.

2) Sentinel says " we were never going to win, a deal had to be made" and both BumbleeBee and Iron Hide either are deaf, or stupid as anything like that said should at least made one of them turn around to give a WTF look.

3) Wheelie and Brains die because a ship takes a slow impact crash into water?

4) Que, looks like he is 100 years old, but has two BFS's on his back.
Bigger then his main body, watch in the autobot exile scene, the sword is half the length of Optimus.

5) StarScream might have been blind, but implying he can't pull out what is essentially is a pencil in they is on the redic side.

6) Why only revive Sentinel on the Ark, why not re activate all the other autobots while your at it.
While on that same scene, they did a bad job at making it clear that the lunar rover was laserbeak watching. The casual movie goer would have no clue.

That's all for now, join along, but remember this isn't about Bay ruining TF, or how bad the characters suck. This about the things in the movie that just make you say... Uh wat?

1. I think Soundwave cloaked himself. pretty obvious.
2. Bumblebee was already pointing in Sentinel's direction. Ironhide; I don't know, maybe he was just ignoring him.
3. How do we know they died?
4. What's wrong with that?
5. I think its been well established by now that Starscream is an idiot.
6. I don't know what to say about that. Wait, Lazerbeak was the rover?

Just my answers to your questions.

1. No one cared.
2. I noticed that too.
3. They died.
4. So?
5. If a pencil was in my eye, I wouldn't pull it out either. It'd hurt like hell.
6. Because Sentinel still had a faint energon level. Ironhide decentegrated, Que got his head blown off, no one cared about Wheelie and Brains, so...

I'd say the DOTM movie was the best of the three live action TF movies.

No,I don't think the DOTM movie was decent.

the dotm movies biggest failure was that viewers needed to see the other 2 tf live action movies to make sense of the dotm movie.

shia & all the humans were still equally annoying in this dotm movie.

Weapon: Null-Ray Rifle
1. Just like in ROTF, certain things in DOTM seem to just go unexplained, and it's basically up to the viewer to come to his own conclusions. While it certainly isn't the end of the world, it is kind of distracting. That said, it also happens at times in a lot of other movies.

2. Yeah, that part with Sentinel should have at least shown Ironhide and Bee reacting to his words.

3. Yeah, that was kind of ridiculous. Or maybe Brains just SAID they were going to die, but ultimately survived the crash. Sam and Mikaela kept yelling they were going to die when Barricade was chasing them. Still, it would have been nice to actually see them coming out of the crashed ship or at least showing up with the rest of the Autobots during OP's monologue.

4. Maybe he was supposed to be one of those anime stereotypes of bald old men who can suddenly unleash a can of whoop-ass? There were a lot of interesting concepts in all three movies that was sadly ignored and went unexplored [Arcee having three bodies using one mind, Soundwave and Ravage's symbiotic relationship, etc.] This is probably one of them.

5. Relative to Starscream's size, a pencil in a human's eye scaled up would have to be a Sidewinder missile in his eye. Sam's bomb is probably the size of a pencil's lead, though. Either way, I agree that he could have pulled the thing out, but like SlyTF1 said, maybe it hurt too much to pull it out. Besides, he had no idea it was a bomb.

6. It was explained that Sentinel was merely in a sort of coma from lack of energon, but it was implied that the rest of the crew were killed when the missile hit the ship. I agree that it should have been better explained, though.

Sometimes it's OK to fill in the blanks, not everything has to be laid out thoroughly. Use your imagination. Never mind what others think. Make it your own experience.

2) Sentinel says " we were never going to win, a deal had to be made" and both BumbleeBee and Iron Hide either are deaf, or stupid as anything like that said should at least made one of them turn around to give a WTF look.

He said it fairly quickly, and there was only a split second in between the statement and his first shot. Ironhide had his back to him, so he had no chance. Bee was facing him, that's why he was able to get away.

3) Wheelie and Brains die because a ship takes a slow impact crash into water?

It wasn't said that they died. People just put together wholesale deaths + them not showing up again. Once again, it's your own experience. They either died or they didn't. personally, I think they died. They were in the front part of the ship, which hit the ground first (the water was very shallow, BTW) and exploded.

4) Que, looks like he is 100 years old, but has two BFS's on his back.
Bigger then his main body, watch in the autobot exile scene, the sword is half the length of Optimus.

Never even noticed that...

5) StarScream might have been blind, but implying he can't pull out what is essentially is a pencil in they is on the redic side.

It did have hooks on the end of it, IIRC. Jam a fish hook into your eye. See if you can get it out in less than 30 seconds without total damage to your eye, while dealing with the pain and 2 rodents hanging off the other end, constantly yanking on it. If the timed bomb hadn't been on there, he would have gotten it out eventually. But instead of staying calm, he freaked.

6) Why only revive Sentinel on the Ark, why not re activate all the other autobots while your at it.
While on that same scene, they did a bad job at making it clear that the lunar rover was laserbeak watching. The casual movie goer would have no clue.

I thought it was made clear hat no one else survived on the Ark, and Sentinel only did because he was in the crash vault. The attack and the crash combined killed everyone else and damaged them so bad that even if Optimus used the Matrix on them, they'd be useless. And where did you get Laserbeak being the rover?
