First time painting

I recently scored a Zoids Gojulas Giga off eBay for a steal which I wanted to represent my Classics Trypticon. I wanted to repaint the white plastic black, but I am unsure what the best paint for the job would be. Any help would be welcomed, and thank you in advance.

Weapon: Particle Beam Cannon
Paint for scale models; acrylics are more forgiving for first-timers.
