Fixing up Trypticon

Postby It Is Him » Fri Jul 04, 2014 5:43 pm

Can anyone spare some good tips on fixing up trypticon? I've got two Junkers, that I think together might make one decent one. The battery pack turns on in one, but it can't walk. I was thinking I could try sticking it in the other, and tinker, and hope for the best.

I know omega Supreme has some tricky stuff, like don't mess with the gears in the head. Is there anything in Trypticon I should be careful with?

Thanks for nothing, jerkwads. Turned out my old Trypticon magically started walking on his own, without any repairs.

HA! I should just leave this thread as it is cause it's hilarious but i have some experience fartin around with Omega Supreme and Sky lynx.
Did a bunch of gear repair with Omega and it was pretty hair raising but fun. Lots of crap to keep track of that's for sure but i got him working properly. Turns out it was a broken strut that i had to epoxy back together. Epoxy is marvelous at welding plastic back together.

Sky lynx was a bit of a nightmare. Layers of gears, springs and cogs. I couldn't get him to walk. I think i should open him up again and get the soldering gun out. If i recall it was a wiring issue with him.

That's the inside of Sky Lynx. A small portion of it anyways.

I'd open up one of those Trypticons just to have a look, see how it works. Because clearly nobody has any experience with it on here and you could be the first. The resident expert on Trypticon repair.

If he just started to magically walk than it could just be a matter of a corroded lead causing him to work intermittently.

Man, Sky Lynx looks intimidating. Yeesh.

Now that I have the extra junker, I could very well just open him up. No real harm in it.

Before my first trypticon would actually turn on and not walk. When my cat threw him off the top of my bookcase, and incidentally broke a bunch of stuff, I wonder if maybe he knocked something back into place internally.

Does that work on battery corrosion, or something?

WD can act as a conduit for electricity to arc in a case of corrosion but it's a messy fix that is short term. It's
best to get in there and investigate. At the very least clean off the corrosion with a wire brush or file to see how bad it is. Also that corrosion can leach into parts unseen and compromise the integrity of the connection deeper than what you see on the surface.
Open it up! Have a look.

Sometimes, it's just the terminals for the batteries that are corroded. Check it first if there's rust.

If the rust build up is a bit thick, apply Johnson's and Johnson's GLO metal polisher to get rid of the grime with Q tips.

I once tried to open up a Trypticon junker, due to needing the extending tower that also holds Full Tilt for another, better Trypticon, which unfortunately had a broken Full Tilt peg. I remember trying to open him up was a huge hassle: I even believe parts of him might be glued / plastic-welded shut.

That's been my experience so far trying to separate the chrome on the neck guns - I couldn't get the chrome and plastic to separate. If I find time this weekend, I plan on opening him up and taking extensive photos.
